👨👩👧👦Guests at Christmas👨👩👧👦
🐶Keep your pets safe around festive guests! If you are entertaining guests this Christmas, there are likely to be more people going in and out of your home.
🐰Take care to ensure your guests know how to interact with your pets and that pets have somewhere quiet to go if they need time alone.
🐱Having pets microchipped brings peace of mind that they can be traced back to you if they are accidentally let out or escape.
🍫Chocolate🍫
Human chocolate for humans. Dog treats for dogs.
We always get asked is of chocolate okay for our dog? The answer? Zero chocolate is the right amount for a dog.
Chocolate contains theobromine (a compound poisonous to dogs). How dangerous chocolate is depends on the type and amount eaten and the size and health of your dog.
Chocolate coins, chocolate tree decorations, your favourite festive tin are all bad for your dog.
If your dog has eaten chocolate, the best course of action is to contact us as soon as possible for advice.

🎆 Early Firework Prep 🎆
Most pets HATE fireworks, so let’s get prepared for it now. In the weeks/months leading up to fireworks, try the below tips to help reduce their stress levels:
* Make sure your pet is microchipped and all details are up to date. The small chance they get out the house, you’ll be glad they are chipped.
* Pheromone diffusers are great at easing your pet's anxiety levels, pop a few around the house. Do this at least a few weeks before firework season starts.
* Provide a safe space in a quiet area for your pet to go to when they feel anxious or scared and associate it with positive rewards such as cat nip toys or stuffed kongs. Try not to interfere with your pet when they’re in their safe haven!
On the day:
* Provide extra bedding for your small furries too so they can hide away if necessary! You can also cover cages and hutches with blankets to help sound proof.
* Walk your dog during daylight hours to avoid the times when the fireworks are likely to be set off.
* Close windows and curtains/blinds to muffle the sounds and flashes of the fireworks.
* Play calming music or have the TV on at a reasonable volume.
* Never punish your pet for being afraid as this will only make things worse in the long run!
* Make sure there is nowhere your pets can escape from.
If you’re worrying about how your pets might cope, you can always have a chat with the vet to discuss your options.

P.S how cute is Luna in our video, dancing around reception during her visit at our Westerham branch yesterday!💕
What’s going on here?! 🛁
-We started seeing Sweep 2.5 years ago, she presented to us very bald, skinny, and had eosinophilic ulcers on her tongue. These ulcers meant she had stopped grooming herself, and was reluctant to eat.
-We treated the ulcers, but long term damage was done to her fur and skin, and the way we keep it under control is with a low dose of steroids and special medicated shampoo baths.
-Sweep’s longterm care has meant she has become part of our MarkNelsonVet family. So much so, that our receptionist Anna made her a shower cap for when we do her medicated baths! 😻
Thanks to Romney House Cat Rescue for letting us share Sweep’s story. 🐈🤍

It is so important we get bunnies and other smaller mammal friends eating and 💩ing soon after anaesthetics, to ensure their gut motility is all in working order 🐰
