Oh lovely Folks, please help me make a decision! 🙏🏼

To help one of my commission customers, cora.the.doberman, choose a background colour for her portrait, her owner sent me some photos of her doing the opposite of “stay” 🤣 Cora is just a pup and so EVERYTHING is exciting!
She wanted something bright and punchy, so I mocked up some colours to see what she liked best.
I love the Warhol-esque look - which one would you choose?
Throwback to when Bracken was a cheeky teenager and I felt inspired to draw her with my shoe!
I forget how norty she was but she was never as bad as Floraidh 🤣

This resilient little puffin and the hardy sea campion flowers is finished!
I think he needs to sit with me for a while while I come up with a title..
People often see puffins as clowns or funny creatures but I like to think they’re quite wise and clever. There’s a solemnity to their eyes.

Happy International Doggo Day! 🐾
Floraidh and I celebrated it by spending £100 at the vets this morning, to sedate and file down a nail which she split in half doing pre-bed zoomies last night 🙄
The cone the vets supplied was too big, so I went and bought an inflatable one. Didn’t stop her managing to lick her wound, so I tried in vain with the cone again, but she threw herself round the room like it was a UFC ring!
She won’t let me near her paw to bandage it, so now I’m just anticipating another vet trip for antibiotics! 🙈
Just as well she’s bloody cute!! 😍
Show us your cute but norty doggos! 🐶
Pleased to see my little Zen chihuahua found a new home recently from whynotscotland.
I think he looks pretty happy about it 😁
New Blog Post - what I wanted to be vs what I am now.
“When I hit a bump in my artistic flow, I start looking at my childhood and younger years to find much need inspiration, to see if I can find a direction for my art that fills me with excitement and energy.
When this happened recently, it got me think about what I wanted to be when I grew up (spoiler alert, it wasn’t an artist!)…”

I adore this little 6x6” portrait of Lady 💜
This painting is a gift for Lady’s owner on her 3rd birthday, from her Granny.
Isn’t it just the cutest?!
I am toying with the idea of offering these 6x6” canvases for commissions, meaning they are a more affordable gift. Let me know your thoughts :)
Also, Happy Birthday Gracie! 🦄
I’m off on me ‘olidays t’ Dales 😎
I’ve never explored Yorkshire but I have a romantic vision based purely on my avid reading of James Heriot’s books as a kid. I can’t wait! A visit to Art in The Pen is on the cards as well.
I’m wearing my new hoodie I designed and just realised I forgot to bring my sketching supplies! 🎨
Happy weekend folks! Hope you’re blessed with sun as we will be in Yorkshire! ☀️
In my other job, I’m the Social Media Coordinator for Biggar Little Festival.
I’m really proud to be part of the BLF team and to help bring so much fun and enjoyment to the town I love, whilst also supporting independent creatives locally and across the UK.
If you’re in central Scotland, I encourage you to check out what we have planned for this year’s festival in October. We’ve some great live music, comedy and theatre shows, poetry, storytelling and literary events, children’s entertainment and of course the Art Trail which takes you round the beautiful landscape of Biggar and beyond. It really is worth a visit!
I’m super excited to share the news that Why Not? in North Berwick are now stocking some of my products!
whynotscotland offers a unique opportunity to browse and buy locally produced and sourced products and services not seen before on the high street... all under one roof.
You might know that we had a small family-run newsagents previously, so it’s no surprise that I’m a massive supporter of independent retail business. North Berwick is noted as one of the very best examples of a thriving high street.
If you’re visiting the picturesque town of NB, make sure to pop in!
You’ll find a selection of my cards, prints, tea towels, cushions and totes available in store 🧡
As a warning popped up on my email inbox that it was 90% full, I started the laborious task of deleting emails from as far back as 2009.. and stumbled across my first ever newsletter from back in 2012 when Anj Art officially began 😁
I love my naive optimism, but I’m equally saddened that fear has stopped me from accomplishing a lot of things I had planned all those years ago. The possibilities could have been endless, and I did think about them, just never actioned them. And still to this day, as I get older, it seems ever harder to go after and grasp those things I still dream about
I have done quite a few things I’m proud of though, like my charity art auctions, and knowing my work has brought joy to many people over the years always gives the feel-good factor.
Kudos to those of you who have gone out and chased your dreams. I am ever a champion of those types of people 🩵 And thank you to those of you who are still here after all those years and all my ups and downs! x
Happy Friday from this pair of rockets 🤣
There’s barely a paired sock in this house and if there is, one is guaranteed to be holey!
My love for the rocking horse has been life long - they take me back to happy childhood days and that love of horses that filled my every waking moment!
Getting old and having a house full of cats is so cliché, so I’m going to start collecting rocking horses instead 🤣
I already have Lyra, an original Collinson and this is her new stablemate, Orion. I spotted him in a local auction, but never managed to register to bid in time. I was gutted to see he sold for just around £80 inc commission. He was a curious little horse, I’d never seen anything like him and he certainly didn’t look like any British made rocking horse I’d seen. I couldn’t get him out my head, so on a whim, I decided to contact the auctioneers and ask if they would pass my details on to the new buyer incase they wanted to sell him in the future.
I got a text to say I could have him if I collected him that day!
After posting in some rocking horse groups, the general consensus is that he is German, possibly around early to mid century, but I can’t find anything similar online to give me any more clues.
The plan is to strip home down, carve new wooden ears and a new hardwood bow rocker (I broke the pine one unloading from the car!) and give him a sympathetic, antique style paint job and finish off with real horse hair.
He might look a little odd, but I see great potential in him, and he is nicely carved. A few tweaks and I think he’ll look dapper! He might be tentatively offered for sale at the end of it to make way for another restoration project 😉
Using left over palette paint from a commission to put some colour over this old painting.
The original painting underneath never came to much as it had a ridiculous amount of texture on it and a horrible lemon yellow, but a quick blast with the sander and I quite like the texture it’s left. Makes me think of the sea!
Note to self - must not get sidetracked when there are deadlines to meet! 🤣

Yay or Nay?
I ordered this design as a sample before I realised I’ll be stocking some of my products in North Berwick and now I think I need a puffin design!
I’m totally undecided as to whether to order this or somehow find the time to squeeze in a puffin painting to order that instead 🙈
What do you guys think? Help a girl out!
The FINAL heart decoration has left the building!
This gorgeous portrait of much missed bengal boy, Rollo. So much detail in such a tiny painting 🧡
I am a little sad to see the last one head off to its new home, but I have saved myself two ceramic star shapes for my own dogs, Bracken and Floraidh.
They definitely were a labour of love, but hugely popular, so thank you to everyone who commissioned and bought one over the years - I hope you cherish them! x
Little hedgehog ink sketch, busy on his way to find slimy edibles! 😁
Available on my website. £32 inc uk p&p and charity donation to Forth Hedgehog Hospital 🦔

When you have a vision for your next painting but you don’t like boundaries and just let intuition and play take over 🙈🤣 This is a work in progress but it’s come to a standstill because I haven’t followed the idea I had in my head and now it’s full of garish colour and I can’t see a way to reduce that without losing the freedom. But on the plus side, I had great fun getting it to this stage 🤣 Also, on a side note, since I like to anthropomorphise and gender my subjects, I feel like this is a stallion, when the painting is about the delicacy of Queen Anne’s Lace, and it probably should have been a mare 🙄🙈 #artistlife #art #equineart #horseart #artist #wip #workinprogress ref photo courtesy of Dotty Weber @ wildlife reference photos
Deer through the years 🦌Starting with my pastels from 2013, to my mixed media in 2023.. it’s crazy to see my style change and evolve over a decade. And a lot happened in between that time. My Mum passed away, encouraging me to shift from the pastels which harboured artist block to acrylics which allowed me to be more expressive. My neurological condition during Lockdown that made me focus more on my art as a full time business. This year I had a plan for my art, as I do every year, but this one was to really push myself and make this a business. To produce more professional work in the hope I could find some gallery representation. But January came and went as I got caught up in the aftermath of Christmas with my day job and in February I was felled with a virus which I’m still battling today. I am trying not to think about the fact I have booked in for having a stall at the Highland Show and all the work and prep that entails! 🙈But when life gives you lemons, suck em up and either deal with the bitterness or make some lemonade! I aim to be back in the studio next week to start on commissions. I have missed painting but the fatigue has been unreal and I probably have to accept the fact I’ve lost a lot of muscle tone being stuck in bed for 3 weeks. I’ll be buff by the time RHS comes around that’s for sure!
It’s Floraidh’s 6 month birthday today! Six months of loving this whirlwind of a crazy thing 🤣 Wouldn’t be without her though, her antics keep me going 🩷Bracken Cherry Blossom #workingcockerspaniel #cockerspaniel #sixmonthsold #spaniel #spaniellife #cockerpuppy #puppy #puppylove

Happy 2024! I’m excited to see what the year holds on my fortieth lap of the sun! But before I start looking forward, I thought I’d share some of my faves from last year 🩵 #animalart #animalartwork #mixedmediaartist #mixedmediaart #mixedmedia #artoftheday
Looking back on some of my favourite paintings, I noticed many of them have been painted over an older painting I’ve been less happy with. I call it “adding history”. So in an attempt to recreate that, whilst still keeping the essence of the original under painting, here is what I’m working on just now. How she shall turn out, who knows, but i’m ready and excited for the process! #fox #wildlifeart #contemporaryart #workinprogress #abstractrealism #acrylicpainting
There’s been something bugging me about Vesta.. I couldn’t decide if the leg was too short or the head was too big.. so I slimmed down the neck, sorted the forelock and adjusted the far away leg. It’s interesting to see just how off it was! Much happier now. *Almost* complete!
Finally back to working in the studio which is wonderful! I have missed it, but life has had other plans.. Here’s a work in progress. I’ve painted this guy before, nearly 10 years ago in pastels, but he needed a new, updated, mixed media version 😁The quote is from the poem which has inspired my work for my The Peace Of Wild Things exhibition which is on during @biggarlittlefestival. Ref photo courtesy of Gary Jones. #biggarlittlefestival #biggarlittlefestivalarttrail #workinprogress #mixedmedia #squirrel
I know I’ve shared the final image of this hare, but it is one of my favourites of my recent work, probably based on the fact it was such a struggle to find its path. It started off originally as a stag, and then I felt it would suit being an otter, until eventually, after some time and lots of “end of palette” paint, it spoke to me and said it wanted to be a hare! Sometimes my canvases sit around for a while, a mish mash of colour and texture until, finally, I see it’s purpose. But even after knowing it’s destiny was to become a hare, I still struggled to convey what I wanted and again I put it to the side. I’m a bit of a skeptic when it comes to manifestations, but maybe that’s what this canvas needed. Time and subconscious manifesting! Often I’m too keen to share finished work, but this painting truly is the story of the tortoise and the hare…Slow and steady wins the race!
These Sweethearts are finally done (bar painting the canvas sides) and I am so glad! I’d like to say I loved the journey but that would be a big fat lie…I HATED it! 🙈 I hated painting the flowers and cutting in round them. Painting the little fox cubs I loved though, made easy by the wonderful reference photo from Menno Schaefer. This will be heading to my exhibition in October, but it also features in my 2024 calendar which I’ll be releasing for pre-orders in the next day or two! Stay tuned 😁 #scottishartist #foxes #foxesofinstagram #sweethearts #younglove #acrylicpainting #upcomingexhibition #fox #foxcub #flowers #wildflowers #wildlife #wildlifeartwork #wildlifeartist
I’m going cross-eyed over here 🤪 I dunno whose bright idea is was to add all these flowers and cut in the negative space, but I am so pleased I’m almost finished blocking in! 🙈 I think it’ll be worth it though.. Merry would like to remind everyone to leave out some shallow water for our feathered friends to enjoy a bath and a drink, even more so in this hot weather! Merry is my favourite resident here. I am pretty sure she was the sole surviving blackbird baby from the stables nest 5 years ago. She and her dashing but rather timid husband, are currently raising a family in the hedge behind the stables. Mr Merry looks on occasion like he’s literally been dragged through the hedge backwards, but Merry looks glam as ever and spent at least 3 minutes enjoying her bubble bath! (Every other bird was less than 30 seconds) Mr Merry keeps her well fed on the meal worms I put out during the day and then I see her pottering about grabbing worms for the babes. Have you got any nesting birds in your gardens this year?
