Sadly, today we announce the passing of Light Cavalry retiree Sky at the age of 25 years old. This sweet mare spent over four years with the Light Cavalry and became adored by all during her time there. She only joined us here at The Horse Trust a few months ago but during that time we also fell in love with this gentle soul. Although she has only been with us a short while, we are glad to have provided her a happy and peaceful retirement.

During her time with the Light Cavalry Ceremonial Team, Sky took part in all weekly troop rides and was a pillar of the Light Cavalry Horse Team. Some of her claims to fame include the Lord Mayors Parade, the Carpet Guard at Guildhall and the Sheriff’s Ride.

On her retirement, a representative of the Light Cavalry said “Sky has been a massive part of the team, and she has a group of wonderful Supporting Riders that love and adore her. She is a yard favourite and is quietly demanding of attention backing up to her stable door and interrupting any conversation for bottom scratches.”

Due to her advancing age Sky needed to seriously decrease her workload to remain comfortable and therefore the Light Cavalry retired her to us so that she could enjoy the rest of her days relaxing here in our Home of Rest.

Some horses spend years in our herd, others only a few months but the love we feel and the care we provide for these magnificent animals is the same regardless. Sky was no different and she has touched the hearts of all of us here and will be sorely missed by us and all her connections from the Light Cavalry. Rest in peace, gentle Sky.

Whilst with the Light Cavalry HAC Stables on the Sheriff's City Ride 2024. I went to take a photo at one point and this hand shot up in front of me to take a photo. So I decided to use her phone as a lens to take the photo 🤣.

Trip to Windsor today, with young Athos as my wingman. A very positive meeting with Honourable Artillery Company at their stables, followed by tea with the Welsh Guards. (I even polished my boots!). An exciting collaboration in the making, supporting the mental wellbeing of serving personnel 💫

Many of our Light Cavalry Mounted Troop, Supporting Riders and wider friends will share sadness at hearing this news. Bob really was a special horse, able to turn his hoof to so much but not without having an opinion about it first.
We are thankful to The Horse Trust for giving him such a wonderful retirement and we have loved keeping in touch with him and visiting him over the years, knowing that his character never diminished as he aged.
We ask you now to join us in adding any stories and pictures of Bob in the comments below; I know Caroline Quested will have many fond memories, as well as a few stories of his 'opinion'.

Lovely horses and clients- Mucking out daily, fetching in, turning out and having an eye for details to ensure the yard looks beautiful, some exercising of horses maybe required depending on experience. Must have industry experience and work quickly and carefully.
Either message on FB or call 01753 622291 to discuss.

Thank you to everyone who came and supported the Light Cavalry at our Annual Inspection. We were blessed with beautiful weather and all of the horses were gleaming. The hardwork that goes into an event like this has not gone unnoticed, Thank You to our two wonderful full time grooms Freya Ayllmore and Grace Burgess who have put in a lot of behind the scences work keeping the horses in top condition, the Light Cavalry Mounted Section for all of the time and effort that has gone into the training of the horses and to our Supporting Riders who have given up so much time and put so much energy into making the horses beautiful and looking after the riders. Looking forward to the next event already.

What do you do when it is hot out? Well Martha knocks over the water trough to create her very own cooling pond! Safe to say the horses are enjoying a their little holiday but we are all looking forward to seeing you soon.

Here is a little clip of Felix enjoying his Cryo Therapy. All of our horses are treated by to a bodywork session on a regular basis, where she uses massage and deep tissue techniques to get them to release any tensions and make sure they are in the best possible shape for the work we ask of them. Cryo Therapy was an extra added to Felix's regular treatment generously paid for by one of our amazing Supporting Riders. There are a great benefits to this treatment, that Felix is clearly enjoying, which I am sure that Magique Hands will explain if you ask. If you would like to add a Cryo Therapy treatment as a top up to your favourite Light Cavarly equine's regular treatment please get in touch.
