Binfield takes in all kinds of dogs...strays and those no longer wanted by or able to be cared for by their owners. We do get a large number of Staffordshire Bull Terriers and other large bull breeds that many of the other local rescues won't take in. Please note, if you would like to give us a dog to re-home, we ask for £100 donation fee which will help cover veterinary costs and running the rescue with the rising living costs.

Just a reminder…today is our last day. Rocco should be going to his new home today, but still have Benji and Reggie there. They have rescue space if not homes but we’d rather see them go to their new homes so if you’ve shown interest in them, please RING the rescue or go up to see them today. Don’t send a message as the volunteers who run the page aren’t there today.

Today we share the sad news that Binfield Dog Rescue will close its doors for the final time on the 7th August. We sadly can’t take any more dogs in, and won’t need any more donations, but thank you to everyone who’s ever donated to BDR, whether that be food, toys, bedding, or money…the kindness shown to our dogs has been astounding. Every time a dog comes in having been mistreated or neglected or dumped because they were old or because they didn’t get on with ‘the new puppy’…your faith in humanity takes a knock. Then you wonderful people turn up day after day bringing treats, and you realise for every awful owner in the world, there are thousands more dog lovers outnumbering them.

Having opened in 1966, many many paws have passed through the kennels in the 58 years of operation. Originally run by Mrs Peake, who entrusted the rescue to Brian Johnson.

Sadly in June, Brian passed away. He’d not been well for the last 10 or so years but kept working, walking the dogs daily and dishing out dinners, until he went into hospital. He worked well past retirement age until he was 78, as Mrs Peake had said the rescue could keep running as long as Brian could run it.

Brian didn’t like to say no to any dog needing help. When all other rescues had said no, Brian always said yes. He took in many dogs with chequered pasts…dogs who’d bitten, dogs with fear aggression / resource guarding, many of them couldn’t be rehomed so lived out their days at the rescue.

We’ve had big dogs, small dogs, happy dogs and grumpy dogs, long haired dogs and short haired dogs, dogs who loved going out for walks and dogs who’d rather sit in the office for a cuddle…the only thing they had in common was that they needed a new forever home.

A huge thank you to everyone who’s taken a dog from Binfield over the years, we hope they gave you as much love as you gave them.❤️ Do feel free to add photos on this post, some of us have been volunteering there for 10+ years and we love to see them again happy with their families.

Over the years, Brian ran without any paid staff and relied solely on the kindness of volunteers, and it’s not an easy ‘job’…some that came and walked a dog once, some that happily spent time mucking out kennels and scrubbing them clean, and others that definitely preferred giving cuddles and belly rubs. Some came once a week, some persuaded the companies they work for to use Binfield for their community work days when they’d turn up with an army of colleagues ready to pitch in…then there were those that gave up any scrap of free time they had and became fulltime permanent volunteers, and the support they gave Brian enabled him to keep going. We’re not going to name anyone individually, but some of you know that you’ve gone above and beyond the call of duty, and there just aren’t the words to express how incredible you’ve been. You know who you are. ❤️

However often you helped out, we know you did it for the dogs, and we appreciate you all.

Lovely Mika is an affectionate, chilled and gentle girl. She is looking for a calm and caring home where she will be able to lay in the sun on a comfy bed. She enjoys gentle walks where she walk by your side. Mika can mix with older children, she's not bothered about other dogs or cats. She will be a loving and relaxing friend to have.

Such a gentle girl, Timer is an ex-racing hound and is very much looking forward to enjoying her well deserved retirement. Timer would like a relaxed home where she will get plenty of love and snoozes! She is not bothered about other dogs and good with children but we are not sure what she's like with cats. Timer arrived with Harbour and it would be great if we could keep them together.

Gemma is a beautiful, gentle girl. She can be a little shy with new people but very friendly once she's comfortable. Gemma loves going for walks and walks nicely on the lead. Although very quick, greyhounds don't need large amounts of exercise, so Gemma is looking forward to putting her feet up and enjoying her retirement from racing in a lovely new home. She can mix with older children and other calm dogs but no cats.

Blue is an ex-racing greyhound looking for his forever home. He is a very happy and lively boy, who is always pleased to see you... his tail wags non-stop! He enjoys going on walks and his friendly to everyone he meets. He's very alert to his surroundings. A gentle boy who will make a loyal companion. He will be great in a home with no other dogs or cats and teenagers or older.

Scar | Greyhound | 4 years | ♂️
Scar is a very affectionate dog who has been recovering from an operation in a foster home and is now ready to find his forever home. Here are a few reasons why Scar will make a great companion:
• Now house trained
• Good with calm dogs, ignores others
• Enjoys travelling in cars
• Can be left on his own for a few hours at a time
• Walks perfectly on the lead
• Attracts a lot of attention from passers-by on walks!

Saint Bernard | 8 months | ♀️
Eileen is a beautiful and gentle giant. She is a little nervous with new people and can bark at them but will settle quickly. Given her size, we would recommend someone who is experienced with strong dogs and ideally strong themselves! This lovely girl will need plenty of space and dedicated owners. She's good with children and other dogs but barks at cats.

Mika | Husky | 11 years | ♀️

Monty is a 1 year old cavapoo. Monty is very sweet when walking, but is territorial and will need an experienced owner who is able to train him in resource guarding as he has bitten in the past. He also needs to continue recall training. We would recommend he isn't homed with any young children. We hope he finds his perfect companion who will give him the guidance he needs. He's good with other dogs on walks and can mix with older children, but no cats.

Sky | rehomed 🏡
Springer Spaniel | 6 years | ♀️
Sky can be a little timid when she first meets you, but within minutes she's wagging her tail enjoying all the love and attention she's getting. She walks best with a harness as she tends to pull (so may need training on the lead). Sky would love to join a home that often enjoys walking, especially as she loves exploring puddles. A home without young children, cats or other dogs would be best. Sky is a sweet and gentle girl who has lots of love to give to a kind new home.

Mia | rehomed 🏡
German Shepherd | 4 years | ♀️
Mia is a stunning girl with lots of personality. She loves to play and give plenty of affection to her favourite people, and can take being brushed all day long. Mia can get excited when she meets other dogs on walks so we would recommend using a harness, but an experienced owner who can give her some training would be great. She is very sweet to people she knows well and can be nervous of new people, so we would suggest getting to know her first. We also would recommend a home with only teenagers and above, and no cats. She can't wait to meet her new family who'll give all the belly rubs.

Dave | Rehomed 🏡
Crossbreed | 18 weeks | ♂️
Little Dave came in with his brothers and sisters who have all been rehomed, but he can't seem to find his own forever home just yet. Like most puppies, he has lots of energy and will need training with experienced owners, especially as he will turn into a big boy! He is very receptive, and even more so with treats. He is happy with other dogs and older children but we’re not sure if he is good with cats. Most importantly he is a very sweet and kind natured little chap who would love to find his perfect home.

Rocky | rehomed 🏡
Labrador X Staffordshire Bull Terrier | 7 months | ♂️
To go perfectly with his gorgeous face, Rocky is a friendly and happy boy who is always up for a game involving tennis balls! He'd love a new home where someone will play with him every day and of course bring him on exciting walks. He would be happy to join a home with another dog and would prefer a home with older children and above, but no cats. Rocky will make an excellent family addition!

Crystal | rehomed 🏡

Crystal is a sweet and playful staffy. She has lots of energy and will need a home where she will get plenty of exercise. Still quite young, Crystal does pull on the lead and she is aggressive towards other dogs when walking, so we would recommend an experienced owner who will be able to teach and calm her. Because of this we'd recommend a home without young children, and also no other pets. Clearly a cutie, little Luna would love a quiet new home where she can relax and get plenty of attention. We'd recommend a home without children and other pets, and general super active households! She can sometimes be wary of new men and caution should be taken with all new people. Luna is really affectionate to her favourite people and can't wait to make a wonderful new companion.

Young Echo is a fantastic boy and looking for a fun new home. Echo would love a home where he will get plenty of exercise and playtime! He is good with older children and above, and other dogs, but shouldn't mix with cats. We know this lovely boy will make an excellent family addition.

This very smiley boy can't stop wagging his tail, he seems very happy all the time! Spike will make a wonderful companion in any home, he is not bothered about other dogs and is good with children but should not be rehomed with cats. As an ex-racer he is looking forward to a comfortable home where he can put his feet up and chill.

Greyhound | ♂️ | 4-5 years
Harry is a fantastic boy looking for a chilled home he can enjoy his retirement in. He is very sweet and likes to walk as long as it's not too cold! He is not bothered about other dogs, good with children but shouldn't mix with cats. Mostly he'd love a new warm home where he can have naps and lots of love.

Scar | Greyhound | ♂️ | 4 years
Beautiful Scar has been a resident for a while with us and we'd love for him to find a loving new home. Scar is an excellent walker, he happily takes long walks with his favourite people, as well as relax and nap with a full belly! Scar can be wary of other dogs, and he shouldn't be rehomed with cats but good with older children. He can't wait to find a cosy new home with new companions.

Indie | rehomed 🏡
Greyhound | ♀️ | 19 months
Indie was nearly a racing greyhound and has instead found herself here and is quickly becoming a volunteer favourite. She is wary of some other dogs so would recommend a home with no other pets but she is good with children. Very gentle and sweet, we know young Indie will make a wonderful companion in a loving new home.

Gorgeous boy, Avatar is looking for a loving new home where he can enjoy his ex-racing retirement in. Red has been on a slow but steady journey to be more entrusting with people, and we are pleased to say she is now ready for rehoming! She can still be wary of newcomers so we recommend that potential new owners come in and get to know her regularly so that both parties are comfortable and are sure it's a perfect match. She would love a new home with no other pets and only older children. She is a much happier girl, she loves to walk and get small doses of attention.

Beautifully polite manners he's showing off for you all here 🌟🐾 Rocco | English Mastiff | 8 months | ♂️ Rocco is a lovely English Mastiff and will need someone who is experienced with the breed who can progress his training and socialisation. He is nervous of new people so, if you're interested, come in and get to know him. When he's comfortable he's a calm, playful and an affectionate young boy. Given his size we'd also recommend a strong owner.
