📣OFF LEAD DOGS THIS POST IS FOR YOU 📣

Dear Dog Pawrents,

I’m not sure what’s happening lately but I’m seeing so many off lead dogs, running up to on lead dogs, and their owners are no where in sight or they’re completely oblivious.

I want to highlight what happened to Mila last week. An off lead dog came running over to her, albeit wanting to play (as it was play bowing ect) but this is not okay. Adding to this, she had her sign on stating ‘I’ve got a bad back’, and if you’re a dog owner you should know that yellow means ‘nervous’.

I don’t know what else I could have done to make it more apparent to other dog walkers that Mila wants to be left alone. It’s not okay that your dog runs up to her, it’s not okay that your dog has no recall, it’s not okay that you’re on your phone not paying attention, it’s not okay that your dog is friendly, I’m sick of hearing this phrase.

When your dog runs over to an on lead dog, you have no idea what that dog has gone through. In our case Mila slipped her disc 3 years ago and she was paralysed, she’s still unsteady on her back legs because her nerves are still damaged from when the disc slipped. She does not want your dog jumping on her. This is not okay. Have some respect for others.

Similarly, there are so many more reasons why dogs are on lead and why they do not want off lead dogs invading their space. They could be a rescue dog who was previously abused, they could be anxious, nervous, previously used as a bait dog, reactive, scared, disabled, the list goes on. There are so many reasons why, but my point is all dogs should be able to enjoy their walk. And ultimately it’s the on lead dogs who then get judged because they are reacting to a situation that they never wanted to be in, in the first place.

It’s a privilege to own a dog, it’s not a hobby. To all dog owners who have off lead dogs with no recall and say ‘my dog is friendly’ please educate yourself. This is NOT okay. Shame on you for being so naive, have some respect for other dog owners and their dogs. You have no idea what their dog has gone through. Do not let your dog approach a dog that is on lead, take some responsibility and stop being irresponsible. Respect other dogs and their owners who are on their own journey.

Kind Regards,

Former resident Mila and her mum who is one of the trustees of TRH.

Someone somewhere up north must have a place for the beautiful Faith. She has been through so much in her very short life. Baltos Dog Rescue is a fantastic rescue but we will offer support too. Please please, if you can’t help then share her post. That could be all it takes for this beautiful girl to find her forever home💖

This is the last appeal we can do for our beautiful Faith.

Time is now running out for her, we HAVE to find her a home. Anything else is simply not an option.

We have taken many XLs over the last few months, they are safe, happy and legal in their new homes. It hasn’t been easy, we have dealt with hundreds of enquiries, done countless homechecks, spent hours and hours on the phone, shed blood, sweat, tears and money. Money like you just wouldn’t believe.

Faith is left behind, this kind, gentle, beautiful soul does not have her person. She has been let down her entire life, twice we thought we had it, we really believed we had found her family. Twice she hasn’t. This is our responsibility and weighs heavy on all of us. The despicable behaviour from her last foster simply beggars belief. Kicked out for messing in the house. After less than 24 hours. When I say kicked out I mean gone, out of that home without even telling us.

So despite the numerous, really kind, offers to foster her we took the decision to send her to kennels. We don’t want temporary for Faith, we want forever. Every move is another let down. So we are appealing for a final time for a forever home. Please don’t waste our time if you aren’t willing to ~

🏡 have a homecheck. Homes must have a secure garden - not communal

📑 provide ID

☑️ Provide evidence of written permission from your landlord

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 move to Scotland (we can only legally rehome in Scotland)

🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

💩 Faith is mostly housetrained, not bad going for a young girl who lived in a garden, she will have accidents though.

🐈 Faith cannot live with cats

🐶 Faith cannot live with dogs

👦 Faith is good with children but due to her size we would prefer older children

❤️ Faith is a genuinely lovely girl, she is a total love potato, she loves nothing more than to cuddle up and watch tv. In fact she loves to watch TV full stop. Cuddles are a bonus.

📍 Faith is currently kennelled in Glasgow

Faiths crime is that she looks a certain way, just a few cm shorter and she would be safe. She doesn’t deserve any of this and if we aren’t able to find her a home then I just don’t know. I don’t know what we will do. The law says we have to kill her. I say kill because that’s what it is. We don’t do that, we don’t kill because a living being looks a certain way. Or we can exempt her to kennels. She hates being in kennels. It’s just BS. BSL. 🤬

Please help us by tagging and sharing anywhere and everywhere.

Please also appreciate we are time limited, if you apply please make sure you are willing to make a serious, lifetime commitment. Every minute we spend dealing with time wasters is time taken away from helping the animals.

A group of charities have developed a scheme to support XL bully owners with meeting neutering requirements for exemption.

Blue Cross, Battersea and RSPCA have signed a joint letter offering a maximum of £250 towards the neutering costs of XL bully dogs for owners in need.
The scheme is intended to support responsible owners, who have already completed the other stages of the exemption process, that are finding the cost of neutering a barrier to exemption.

It will be managed through the Blue Cross’ Veterinary Care Fund, launching on 5 February 2024. Until then, the RSPCA are providing vouchers for those in urgent need.
Practices are asked to apply for the fund online on behalf of their clients. The charities will then pay an amount, based on the dog’s gender and the neutering procedure, directly to the veterinary practice.
XL bully owners are able to apply for exemption for their dog before it has been neutered, however they must provide evidence that it has been neutered afterwards. Dogs which are older than one year old on the 31 January 2024 must be neutered by 30 June 2024, while dogs under one year old should be neutered by 31 December 2024.

On 1 February 2024, it will become a criminal offence to own an XL bully type dog without a Certificate of Exemption.

🌾🐕 XL Bully Update 🐕 🌾

Our insurance has emailed us to confirm that XL’s will be ALLOWED MUZZLE-FREE in our field ❣️👏

There are still rules that XL Bully “types” need to adhere to;

We will be covered to hire out the field for an XL Bully Dog on the following basis:

✅ The dog is registered with the index of exempted dog (IED)
✅ A public liability insurance certificate for the dog is held
✅The dog handler ratio is 1:1 with their handler at all times
✅The dog is Neutered – in line with Government Rules
✅The dog is Micro Chipped
✅The field is securely fenced and locked so the dog cannot escape
✅The dog is kept on a lead (or in the car) and muzzled until the gate is shut and locked when entering the field. The dog is kept on a lead (or in the car) and muzzled before opening the gate to leave the field
* As the parking is inside the gate at our field this makes life easier *
✅ The muzzle CAN be removed once inside the secured LOCKED field

All dogs must be from the same household. If the household has more than 1 dog, they can come to the field together but the banned breed dog must have its own handler and then another member of the same household needs to be present to supervise the other dogs. If there is more than 1 banned breed in the household they can come together but each dog must have its own handler 🏠

All in all we feel this is good news that we can provide a safe space where XL Bully’s can have some off lead and muzzle free time 🐾

Next up is Benji

Our Benji is a 3 year old husky x couch potato 🥔 🐺

We are gutted that Benji is once again in need of a home, he came to us as a pup after his family had a baby and no time for Benji. He found, what we thought was his forever, turns out this is not the case. He’s been in his home for over 2 years but his adopter has taken the decision to go and work abroad.

For me I find this super frustrating, and disappointing, why aren’t dogs for life anymore? But it is what it is, when we take a dog we promise back up for life, guess we wouldn’t need to do that if dogs weren’t so disposable.

But anyway, this is about our Benji and finding him a home. So about him …

Benji is super good with 98% of dogs and human friendly, however he has a high prey drive (no furries or cats). He is a very energetic dog so will benefit from an active home as he needs a lot of exercise, he loves nothing more than a free run in a secure area, he also loves to swim. However if he gets the excercise he needs he then turns into a couch potato and is more than happy to chill on the sofa.

Benji is used to being around children aged 12 and up. We would consider another dog in the home provided there are the means to separate initially. The ideal would be a large breed female.

We are on limited time to find a place for Benj, we have been trying for a good while and are concerned that it’s just a matter of time before we get the call to say ‘get him now’.

If you can offer Benji a home or have any questions please pm us direct. 🐾

Sharing for another rescue. Please Contact them if you can help. They would be very happy to hear from you x

** update 21/10/23. We have had a large number of applications for Stumps, to avoid disappointment we won’t be processing anymore at this time. Although his story is sad he is a lucky boy to have so many people offering him a home. We do have lots of other dogs that desperately need homes though so please do contact us if you have a doggy sized space in your heart please do contact us **

Yesterday we were asked if we could help an older boy whose ‘dad’ has died. As ever my initial response was no, sadly we don’t have homes or funds and cannot pay any more kennel fees.

BUT then I took my dogs out, whilst on our walk we met an elderly gentleman out with his equally elderly staffy, both were very grey and walking very slowly. Watching this chap chatting to his dog as they walked and seeing her looking up at him with utter adoration made my eyes leak.

The dog we had been asked to help has lost his person, for the past ten years it had just been the two of them. One day his dad went out to get some shopping and never returned. He sadly had a heart attack and died in the back of the ambulance. The dog, Stumpy, has been taken in by a family member but is struggling living in a busy household. He is clearly missing his dad and wondering when he can go home.

I want Stumpy to be that dog who lives out his days being his persons everything again. His family want this for him aswell. He sounds absolutely delightful, a real little character. We can’t bring his dad back for him but we can at least try and find him peace for his last years, he’s a 10 year old staffy so this could mean 1 year or 10.

We are seeking a pet free home, not too energetic but someone who is happy to pootle round the park with him followed by cuddles on the sofa.

Stumpy is currently in the West Midlands.

Please pm us if you think you can help us get Stumpys eyes smiling again and help to mend his broken heart 🐾

Charlie

Charlie was adopted from High Hopes Dog Rescue. His Adopter asked us to have him back as he could no longer keep him. We found Charlie a new home and then the adopter changed his mind. A few weeks later he then gave us two weeks to take him back and after one week he signed Charlie over to another rescue. The rescue rehomed him a few days later.

We just want to know where Charlie is and keep up with his progress. We aren’t here to take him away from his new family.

We have his mum and siblings also in rescue.

Please get in touch if you now own Charlie, think you own Charlie or know who owns Charlie. We just want to know he’s happy and safe.
