So,
Rainbow Bridge, you see comments on social media by heartbroken owners telling of their beloved pets passing, now whether you believe this or not is obviously up to you, but i remember a lady telling me that a stranger had passed on a message from her deceased father saying....tell my daughter her dad says he will look after her thirteen dogs until she can look after them herself, when told the message she wrote down the names of all her dogs that she had owned that had passed & the number was thirteen....strange eh.

So,
During our years of pet caring we met some lovely people, one elderly lady who's dog we started walking was ultra special, we met her when we took on the job of walking her little westie dog, we would walk her dog monday to friday & every friday she used to bake us buns, she said they were for our tea, but they never got as far as home, they were delicious, she was an amazing lady, although she had recently lost her husband & had no children she was always bright, positive & never complained, she was in her early nineties & still quite mobile, unfortunately her little boy westie got ill & passed away & the lady took it so bad she stopped eating & ended up in hospital, we had grown very fond of the lady & so we started taking her out with us & making sure she ate, we took her to many places during her final years & she became a member of our family, signing our birthday & christmas cards as 'mum' she even made christmas stockings up for us that were wonderfully thought up, she made us feel as if we were her children, she is no longer with us, but we often sit & talk of our trips out & times spent with our special lady.

Breakfast served, appetites good, no sick, furballs or runny poo, (just thought you'd want to know that), probably too much information, a nice cooling shower see's the felines comfortable, a couple of incomings this evening, for now its a bit of tidying in the garden, cutting back, binning any tired plants, pulling up the many weeds that have been carried on the wind & seeded in our borders....it never stops, we were gonna go to a show at Wragby, lincolnshire, but the threat of heavy rain has put us off, so its a afternoon of relaxation for us,....enjoy your Sunday ###

So,
Petcare, we used to have a usual route we would go in the worksop area in our petvan complete with cages, picking up the dogs, the number varied daily depending if the owners were working that day or not, 6,7,8 sometimes 10 dogs, we were insured for up to 10 as i remember, we would open the door to a very excited hound who could barely contain itself, showing us where its lead/harness was, we would be dragged to our van & the pooch would willingly sit in a cage with the other dogs, they sat mostly back to back, not making eye contact, they sat very well behaved & when we had them all we would go to a selected quiet lane, fling open the doors & watch the assortment of canines bound & play, running all their pent up energy off, i must add, the dogs were neutered & so they chased & played & had a wonderful time, the funny thing was, our van had no windows, so the dogs could'nt see where we were going, but whenever we reached their home on the return journey, only the dog whose house we arrived at got up to get out....how did they know?, we once reversed the route & still they knew which was their house....amazing.

So,
Petcare, i once visited a lady at Rossington who wanted her Rottweiller dog walking at teatime during the winter months, he was a great big hulking mass of a dog & while we were talking he lunged at the window barking & snarling, drool flying all over the place, she explained that a man had walked by with a collie dog that attacked him when he was in puppy stage & he had never forgotten, after i had taken instruction on feeding & visiting time, she said....just one more thing, would you leave him a light on when you leave, hes scared of the dark.

So,
Is it cruel to keep cats indoors?, our preference is to keep our Robyn inside, reasons?,1. the busy road out front, i can be confident that within a week she would be killed on the road outside, 2. our love of garden bird life, ( we would'nt want Robyn killing all the birds that provide entertainment for our feline guests in the garden, 3. We get more quality time with Robyn that we would'nt get if she was roaming about outside, 4. Her stress levels are at a minimum because she is safe & as pictures of her show she is very relaxed in the home, 5. Exercise, she does race around & play & she has various favourite toys that provide the entertainment she needs, (she loves to chase the laser light), 6. Sad when reading posts on social media of owners appealing for help to find their beloved felines, many instances ending in the felines death, 7. We don't want to share Robyn with other families because most cats will move in with people willing to provide food & who will keep the cat around their home for days leaving the rightful owner fraught with anxiety, 8. Territorial issues between cats lead to fights resulting in biting & scratch injuries costing owners hundreds of pounds in vets fees, These are reasons whether you agree or not that are worth considering when you have decided to give a lovely feline a home, if your personal preference is to let your feline wander, i respect that also ###.

So,
Fleas, nasty little blood sucking parasites, using your best feline friend to lay their eggs, hide in your furniture, waiting for a donor feed, yuk, a warning....buying easily obtainable over counter treatments & sprays that don't work are a waste of money, make sure your pet is covered by using a vet, have your puss put on a proper treatment & keep these nasties away.

So,
We were given a job looking after a goat in the backwoods of Tickhill, we always visited peoples pets/animals 3 times a day even if we were only instructed to do 2 as 2 never quite seemed enough, anyway we visited the goat the 3 times, ending with an evening visit & returned home, ate & went to bed, we received a phone call from the owner near midnight saying the goat was out of its field & was wandering around, so off we dashed, (dressed of course, to recapture said goat), the surroundings were pitch black & very eerie & there was no immediate sign of the escapee, so we walked the field to the enclosure to find the goat safely standing where we had left her, & obviously wondering why humans were visiting in the dead of night, disgruntled, we trudged up the field & returned home with our boots covered in shhh,....excrement i think is the word.

So,
We never took on any horse care, not that we were not capable, Kath had vast experience with horses, having had livery stables, competed in point to point, trained them & carefully watched their diets, making sure they had all the best food & were well turned out, she even owned a successful racehorse once sharing the winners enclosure with the queen mother at sandown, she has successfully bred & shown Texel sheep at the big shows picking up prizes for her efforts, anyway we stuck to domestic pets, dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, parrots even a few tame rats, we were out at Rossington one day & a lady approached us & asked if we looked after monkeys, saying she had one but he was a bit lively & did'nt mind biting, safe to say we declined the offer.

So,
During our early petcare days we decided to take peoples parrots into our home in their cages on our pool table, sometimes we would have up to three staying at one time, they were all lovely characters but were prone to being very talkative & when we were taking bookings on the phone they would be effing & jeffing in the background, some customers would hear these expletives leaving us apologising & having to convince them that it wasn't us swearing at them.

So,

As we at the Gables enter our 21st year of cat boarding, we have some facts to share...
Oldest pussycat, 25 years.
Most cats boarded by one person, 15.
Longest continuous booking 30 months.
We started many years ago with general pet care, visiting peoples homes, feeding small pets, dog walking watering plants cutting grass, at that time it was virtually unheard of & people we spoke to said we would never make a living doing it, they laughed at our pet van that said Animal nannying services, how many people are providing the same service now ?, we took dogs into our home for 14 years, caring for between 50 - 60 a year, we rented a beach hut at mablethorpe & took the dogs to the beach, these were some of our happiest times, at new year, we would have up to 7 dogs staying together in our home, we had 6 gardening jobs as well, mainly helping out the elderly, ( wonderful times) we also provided dog walking, taking up to 10 dogs together in our van, we would have various private lanes where we could let them run & play together....wonderful, if we could turn back the clock we would do it all again, we have met many wonderful people past & present & we often reminisce about all this with our friends.

So,
We don't find anything nicer these days than breaking up the day with a little trip out, calling at a local shop, sandwich, crisps, oasis drink & a little sweetner for after then parking up somewhere nice & rural like gringley, we've been watching the farmers gather in the harvest during the last week, thankfully for them its stayed dry, we have noticed a few fields with unusual crops so after some research we found out that its birdseed & growing these different crops improves the soil quality too, we were down there monday dinner, nobody about but us & a beautiful muntjac deer appeared, took one look at the car & fled hopping over a field of black beans, but it made our day, we have been down there since but we'll probably never see it again, gringley has some lovely walks & barges can be seen navigating the canal, there are a couple of seating areas to rest up as well, anyway the pussycats were all fine this morning, one in & one out today so nice & steady for us crumblies.
