ESCAPE ROOM - Trapped in a Training Room 🚧
Today I invited Cheryl & Wilbur Big Dog Little Dog: Puppy and Dog training to be my guinea pigs 🐹 for an Escape Room
They escaped, thankfully 😮💨 🤣 it was touch and go with the cryptic word search 😆
This was really nice for Wilbur, being an older boy, so nice and gentle on the joints, and not too taxing for him, and for the human 🤣
So how will it work:
- You get allocated 30 minutes to escape.
- You get 3 hints - so use them wisely 🦉
- You will be timed, and the fastest time in the month, will win a toy 🥳 so if you want to be on that leader board, get booked in 🔗
£15 for the half hour session - book here https://koalendar.com/e/Escape to see if you can escape 🏃♀️
Happy Hump 🐪 day 👋
Today I had lovely senior lady Holly, and young stud Bertie 🥰 two opposite ends of the age line, but that’s not to say we can’t offer them both something new and lovely to enjoy. ☺️
Holly is 12 years old - and she looks good right?🤩 so as with any aging process, it’s now how we can support their joints, and offer them other activities, as we know they can’t always do the activities they once could.
Holly had a lovely time, depositing tennis balls all over the floor, and she moved around, but she REALLY loved the snuffle bar - it was the perfect height her and she stayed there the longest. She wasn’t so sure about the green sandpit filled with smaller snuffles (she did get two feet in, but it was too much for her) and she enjoyed the plant snuffles. She said “no thanks” to licking dairyleigh 😂😂 she may be a lab, but that was just wasn’t her thing today!!
Can’t wait to see her back where we can explore new stations for her 🥹🥰
Bertie is just a normal adolescent young boy, who finds giving things up a little harder, and recall has gone a little backwards, but today he told us that chewing rabbits ears and licking cheese (don’t worry Holly, Bertie cleaned up for me 😂) was his preferred choice of reward, so armed with knowledge we practiced some recall AND he did give up a chew for some licking 🥳 which was amazing to see - he needed time to think about it, but he did by choice just come away from the chew and enjoy licking cheese from my spoon 🤩
His guardian has gone away with some new methods to help Bertie through this stage of life. Can’t wait to hear how he’s doing 🤩
These sensory sessions are available to book through this link - https://koalendar.com/e/sensory-session
Happy Tuesday all - is it bad that I’m loving the cooler weather 😬😅 anyone else?! 👋
Thursday & Fridays sessions;
On Thursday, Lexi came along to TDU - she enjoyed a good snuffle around first, before we put her to work. Lexi can get a little giddy when she sees other dogs, and she’s not a huge fan of traffic, so observing her whilst she snuffled around, we found that she really enjoyed the plant snuffly mat.
So once we felt she was ready to move outside, we took our time and observed her behaviour - she took a good 10 mins before she was able to snuffle, BUT once she was able to process her environment, we started to just follow her when she was ready to snuffle/move. She headed towards the car park, and mooched around, she then got a little stuck by the gates; now this could’ve been because she felt the big lorry coming before we saw it, BUT she actively chose to distance herself from the lorry 🥹🥳 no lunging, or stiffening, just calmly moved away - but by starting off with getting the brain relaxed, she was able to think rather than react 🙌🏼 lots of things for her guardian to take home and practice 🤩
Friday evening, Merlin was first in.
Merlin struggles to stay close on a lead, typical spaniel 😅 (I know that feeling!!) who wants to be busy. So we looked at a new way to help with lead walking; we offered him movement from side to side (which is what spaniels naturally want to do) but rewarded this from us and not the environment, to help him stay close - we essentially didn’t want him near us 🥴😂 so threw the treat away, and each time he came back in, we threw the treat the opposite side to move him away again!! Giving him more movement (rather than the stop start) was less frustrating for him and his guardian, and just look at him keeping pace with mum 🥹🙌🏼
Last up was gorgeous girlies Clover & Lottie.
Clover (the ginger one) is much more bold, but we saw she enjoyed to climb. Lottie took a little longer to start 🥹 and we found she REALLY enjoyed the plastic snuffle mat, and climbing 🤩

Dog Detective Part Deux ✌🏼 🕵️♀️
Last night I was my first class at TDU - Flo, Bailey & Alan (Moose’s dad unfortunately had to stay at work 🥲) for their second stage in their Dog Detective Work.
We unfortunately had to say goodbye for the evening to Alan, who hurt his paw 😭 and was finding it a bit of struggle so he’ll be back next week, so it was down to Flo & Bailey to find their contraband 👃 on the start of their car searches 🚗
Well they did MARVELLOUSLY 🤩 and I can’t wait to see everyone back next week as we start to make things a little harder for them 😁
It was a trio of faux pas last night;
Poor Alan, another leak sprung to life from the disused boiler (ffs😒🤦🏼♀️) and then at the end I almost knocked myself out by ducking under a branch to get in the car and opening my door into my head at the same time 🥴😣🤣 left a lovely little bump on my head 🤕😂
They do say things come in 3s 😅
Anyway, happy Thursday all, it feels like the heat has become a little less intense 🤞🏼 here’s hoping as I’m kinda over the whole melting 🫠 feeling!!
👋
I had a memory come up on my personal account yesterday, of my former life as an animal technician 👩🔧 for a college where I spent 14 years working with such an awesome range of animals 🥹
It made me feel a little 🥲 , and my mind was taken back to my many years working there. Having a blast with my work wife 😂 being humped by a randy goat; being rammed by a moody sheep & my finger nearly disappearing down a donkeys throat as my thought process of “I wonder if he’ll lick the peanut butter off my finger” didn’t go as planned, and instead clamped down on it 🤣🤣🤣 🤦🏼♀️
These little common marmosets, were just ace to watch and work around, except when they pee’d on your head 😒🤣🤣 not just the fact that they had done it, but the fact it absolutely smelt vile and when wondering around the local supermarket I was usually met with quite displeasing looks (I also smelt of horse & donkey pee, mixed in with bit of pig and marmoset stench 🤭) - my dogs loved me when I came home 🤣 all those lovely smells!
BUT this is a lovely little video of the marmosets enjoy a snufflemat - Pob is the one who takes a mealworm from my hand, he was the bravest out of all of them 🥹 - not really ground dwellers, but they enjoyed snuffling around for mealworms!
A little Wednesday cuteness for you ❤️ enjoy 👋
A fab Ikea enrichement actvity for dogs.
This bag storage holder (Variera) was only £2 - using cut up bits of fleece, loosely pushed in (remember you dont need it to be hard for your dogs; too hard, they will walk away from it) your dog gets to snuffle away finding the treats - pulling them out, or like Bella, digging for the treats to fall out.
Cheap and cheerful 👌🏻
Who doesn’t love a trip to Ikea 😂😂
Herbs for TDU 🪴
Did you know that animals can self select “things” which make them feel better.
🐕 Known as Zoopharmacognosy which is the study of how animals self-medicate by using natural substances. It explores how animals select and use plants, soils, and other natural materials to prevent or treat diseases, parasites, and other health issues. The term combines "zoo" (relating to animals), "pharma" (relating to drugs or medicine), and "gnosis" (knowledge).
So the herbs will be planted down at TDU to give dogs something to smell 👃 to enjoy some feel good dopamine hits (if they enjoy it 😅 as you can see Bella wasn’t impressed with the mint) and they can select the ones they “want” to have a good sniff on 🫶🏻
These plants are dog safe so fingers crossed your dogs enjoy a good sniff once planted 😄
Happy Sunday 👋
Watch this space 👀
Who remembers escape rooms? What happened to them 😂 I actually quite enjoyed the one I went to!!
I say bring them back 🤨 so that’s what I plan on doing, with just a little twist 😁
Escape Room with your dog - Trapped in a Training Room!!
I’m finalising the details, and ensuring it works 🤪 but this will be just to have a bit of fun with your dog!! ☺️
Details coming soon 🤓 (it won’t be as flashy as some of the escape rooms you may have been to - it’ll be like a supermarket value own version 🤣🤣)
Happy Wednesday 👋
Today was Bella’s turn for a Decompression Session 😂
She came with me for a 1:1 this morning, but my next client was poorly 😢 so we skipped off to the unit - so I could give it proper Hoover, faff and then set up for my last client of the day (before class tonight).
She was loving it ❤️ and it set her up perfectly for having to wait in the car whilst I had my 1:1, she came home and has barely moved for the afternoon 😂 which as the weather has taken on a lesser summer vibe, she’s had her “walk”!! Just the boys to sort out!
I still have a couple slots for my free talk next Friday evening, you can book your space here 👉🏼 https://koalendar.com/e/Freework-talk come and see what all this fuss is about out 😉
Happy Friday all 👋
Todays special guest was Neil ❤️
Neil came for a Sensory Session and some help with some physio (how to make things a little easier, not me offering physio workouts!!!)
Neil has some tight leg muscles, which they are seeing a physiotherapist to help ease the legs.
Well what can I say?! He moved calmly around the room, a few fizzy moments but he did de-fizz himself, he snuffled, he enjoyed a rabbit ear (and laid down to chew 🤩) - Dave the Stuffed Dog was also the other side of the baby gate, just so Neil could move himself away, which he did. He was interested in him, but was able to make some lovely decisions 🥰
We then looked at how we can adapt some of the physio moves, just so mum can do them easier without throwing Neil off. It was a little makeshift 😂 and included soap bottles but it bloody worked 🤪🤣🤣
It was such a relaxing session 😌 for all, and that’s why I offer these ❤️

DOG DETECTIVE 🕵️♀️
On Friday we welcomed Orla and Ian to week 1, Otis will be joining us from tomorrow.
They both did amazing at learning to get the nose down to “find” their 🧀 can’t wait to see them this week, to start to progress to the beginning pattern of searching.
It was then a new course over in Taunton (a lovely group of laddies at the Conquest Centre asked if I would run the course there, so last night I said hello to Bean, Isla, Ramsay, Herbie, Winnie and Jessie. They all did fab, and what a cracking place to teach - the driveway down had AMAZING views where all my worldly woes were left on the road 😅 can’t wait to see them next week! 🥳
My next Dog Detective will hopefully be at the unit (once the water and electrics are sorted 😅) smaller groups (max 3) TBC.
Happy Thursday 👋
Does your dog have a quirk when out walking? Do they take you to very random places and you think, why? 🤔 🤣
Tai has discovered doorways 🤣 don’t ask me why!!!
Everytime we go for a walk, and I let him choose his destination, it generally ends up at a door 😆
I think there is ranking for doorways;
- Top of the house for Tai is Greggs doorway (almost practically going inside 🤣 can’t blame the poor lad!!)
- A food unit (take out number 5) on the industrial, think we have a theme 🤣!!
- Mr DHs work (I think he’s expecting his dad to walk out even though dad is always with us 😂)
- a fire exit 🤣🤣🤣 to a paint shop - I don’t know either 🤷♀️
- a jujitsu gym (again, has almost gone inside when the doors have been open 🤣 and they’re rolling around the floor I wonder if he thinks he could get involved)
- sometimes he’s tried to head towards another gym but I’ve had to remind him that people don’t need a dog watching their workouts 🤣
It’s a new thing! I get the Greggs one, as we sometimes stop outside to grab a coffee (and I always reward them here 🤪) but I’m not entirely sure what the other doors have meant, esp number 5 take out place as we’ve never gone there but he drags me to it 😆 maybe it’s in hope that the door will be open one day 🤣 (it’s not even like he’s scored a point and found a crumb to Hoover up!!)
One day, we will miss our dogs quirks, their lives are so short on this planet, that we will take for granted these silly moments, so indulge them if the behaviour is not a problem or causing any undue stress on your dog or others 🥲
Happy Monday all 👋 enjoy a happy Tiddly Pig taking me to his favourite place 🤣🤣 (and he skips because of his arthritis 🥲) he’s literally like “hurry up mother!!!! 🤨”
Last Friday night, it was Week 6 of Dog Detective 🕵️♀️
Rosco had his “test” (I don’t do tests, I don’t believe people should be tested for anything 😂 it’s way too much pressure) last week and smashed it.
Neil, Ruby, Willow, Barli and Moose all said yes to the mission and found the hidden Cheeses 🧀
I’m so proud of these guys, they worked so hard - and watching the way they all searched was truly magic 🪄
If you’d like to join the next course, starting 31st May 7-8pm at the village hall in Kingsdon (6 week course, £100 for the 6 weeks) please follow this link and payment details will be given in the confirmation email - https://koalendar.com/e/dog-detective-may 3 spaces remaining.
Get those noses down and searching 👃
Problem solving 🤔
I LOVE watching how all 3 of my dogs “work out the best way” of obtaining something without me intervening (unless they need help).
Watch this little video (I thought I had more of Chip!! 🤦🏼♀️) of the dogs doing some freework when it was wet last week, and this awesome little garden planter makes a great treat hide 👌🏻
Tai is typical Bully 😂 and literally goes in like a bulldozer and sees what happens, but he’s also quite thorough in his approach. He will spend time snuffling the pockets individually, and has learnt if he pops his nose in (albeit quite enthusiastically sometimes 😂) he may find a nugget of food.
Bella, being flat faced, has learnt that she CAN NOT put her nose in, but if she digs at it (the same with our truffle tubes) eventually food will fall out!! 😆 why waste time sniffing for long periods, where digging will eventually produce something 😂
Chip is similar to Tai, but he works a little quicker, and maybe he’s not as confident as Tai, so dibs in and out and would rather have quick finds then spend too much time on one thing. He will put his nose in, gets a hit and then moves off again!
Watching how dogs work so differently can teach us how we can help/work with them.
Why not do something similar and watch how your dog interacts with something.
🔹Do they require help?
🔹Have we helped them too much thus waiting for us to step in?
🔹 Multiple dogs - how do they work things out? Even if they’re the same breed, they will probably solves the problem slightly different to the other?
Happy Sunday all 👋
DOG DETECTIVE 🕵️♀️ 🐾
Check out these guys 👇🏼
🫎 Moose
♦️ Ruby
🐕 Neil
🌲 Willow
🐻 Bärli
🦌 Roscoe
This week we looked at perimeter & corner searches!
They did AMAZINGLY - some going in fast 🏃♀️ and some just taking their time 🚶♀️but ALL detectives found their hidden finds 🧀
Next course starts on 31st May 7-8pm at the Kingsdon Village hall TA11 7LL (£100 for the full 6 weeks - booking link - https://koalendar.com/e/dog-detective-may
Another video, another freework session, another “lesson” on lead walking!
This time I filmed it 👌🏻 with Lola 🥳
This video could’ve been about 20 minutes long, so some parts are sped up 😂
So the video is pretty self explanatory, but what did Lola do;
- she snuffled as soon as she came into the paddock.
- we let her dictate her movements when she was ready to disengage with the freework area.
- she was allowed to engage with the area as often as she wanted.
- she offered beautiful lead walking WITHOUT teaching her what we wanted.
- she connected with mum SOOOOO much 🥹
- she settled without every being taught or asked (see the photo in the video where she lays on the mats).
- she sat by mum - not being asked, not using our body language to suggest she had to, it was a choice.
- she was calm the entire time 🥰
And hopefully you’ll be able to see, the gate was open for the whole session - she was free to go out of there whenever she wanted to, but she didn’t. No coercion, we didn’t use food to “make something happen” she just existed with us.
Now this is hard for a lot of owners to grasp - the art of just being present - no expectations, no direction, just allowing our dogs to have all the choices they want.
Lola’s choice was to hang out and be cool 😎 😂
Just a lovely session after a traumatic start to my morning where my car was officially dead ☠️ 🤣 and it was due a service at the mechanic’s this morning, so desperately needing it to start, and I needed to get to the dentist for 9.15am 😵💫 (I got to the dentist and my teeth are perfect 🦷 🥳)
Dad to the rescue, got it started, turns out all this time, the battery had finally given up the go - and I’ve been jump starting it for the last two weeks 😂😂😂 bless that car, it got me to Daventry and back!!! Although it’s cost me the best part of a deposit on a house 🤣🤣🤣
Happy Wednesday 👋
This video just makes me melt and feel all gooey inside 🫠
This is Plum. You may have remember me mentioning Plum last week. Now her guardian said “I won’t lie, I’ve done nothing over the last week” which is cool! I get it! She’s a busy chef and has a home life too! So this video isn’t even a “practiced” inbetween the sessions. It’s just Plum doing what she can offer us 🥳
This little fruit couldn’t;
- take food outside 🫢
- recall….. “what’s that” says Plum 😂
- listen to anything her guardian said to her 🙉
- walk any near her human 🏃♀️
- scatty behaviour 🤪
- hedge launching 😂
So we used freework again! We had snuffle piles, and a licki station (which wasn’t quite for plum and was happier snuffling).
Everything was done with Plums choice - where she wanted to go, how far she wanted to go, if she wanted to stop and watch…
This little video is of her just coming out of her driveway and starting the “outside” “training” and I put training in inverted commas because we’re not really training! We’re just rewarding the behaviours we like. Minimal input, but maximum rewards for being awesome!! 🤩
As you can see, she’s on a long line. No short leads but we are being mindful we’re near the road.
She heads off to the chickens 🐔 😂 but watch the lead, does it go tight? Nope, it’s slack as she watches and mum recalls and Plum comes in and stays in!! 🙌🏼
Not in the video - We also saw a cat, and she watches the cat (again something which would’ve triggered a chase response), a unexpected dog came over, she was a little worried, but her guardian managed the line beautifully and Plum was able to cope, and recovered extraordinarily well 🥰
We had traffic - tractors, buses, cars! We had people! Plum took it in her stride and was like yeah we cool!
Her guardian also asked her “do you want to hang out here” and Plum responded with a “yeah we can hang out”.
Her guardian
