Horsemanship courses Starting this September

Equine studies QQI Level 5: Develops the students knowledge and skills to work in a variety of equine sectors.

QQI Level 6 Prepares the student for managerial and teaching roles in the equine industry.

Students will be offered the opportunity to participate in BHS (British Horse Society) Examinations.

Level 6 graduates are approved to teach in AIRE approved centres.

Green cert
The Level 6 Horsemanship course meets the educational criteria for Young Trained Farmer status (Green cert).

TOTAL NUTRIENTS MATTER, NOT % IN A FEED OR PRODUCT!!

It's the actual amount of a nutrient that your horse gets that could affect them, so how much of a feed, forage or supplement they're getting is important and not just what it contains per kilo.

A good example is hay. Even a moderately low sugar hay gives your horse much more sugar than a handful of molassed chaff or a balancer (for horses fed mostly hay and not much grass).

Let's see some examples: 👀

🟨 7 kg of hay (DM) with 8% sugar = 560g sugar
⚖️ 500 g balancer with 9% sugar = 45g sugar
🟤 300 g molassed chaff with 15% sugar = 45g sugar

◻️ 50 g of a supplement with 30% protein = 15 g protein
🟨 7 kg hay (DM) with 8% protein = 560 g protein
⚖️ 500 g balancer with 25% protein = 125 g protein

(Now with protein, all sources aren't equal, so that needs to be considered also, but this example shows why generally, a supplement fed in a small quantity would not make a significant difference to total protein intake)
