There will be 2 treks of 10 riders for one hour each. The first trek is at 11am and the second trek is at 12pm.

The bus is departing UL at 8:15am on Friday morning and is scheduled to return to UL at 4pm.
The cost for this fantastic day out is €20 in total.”

🐎🐎 Tetrathlon meeting, TOMORROW Wednesday 3rd October, 6pm, Kemmy Cafe (Costa) 🐎🐎

We'll be meeting in the Kemmy cafe at 6pm tomorrow evening to discuss our plans for the upcoming Tetrathlon. For those of you who do not know, this is a team event, four per team, involving running, swimming, shooting, and show jumping.

Weekly running training sessions will be organised, as well as a shooting practice one evening. The more you participate in training sessions, the greater chance you have of being selected to compete!

We also ask that those wishing to compete send us a CV of their riding experience in order to make the selection process easier.

MONDAY 5th FEB 2018 - IN THE COURTYARD 😱

As you may or may not know, we try to reduce the costs of equestrian activities for our members. BUT, we need your help!

We’re running our first fundraiser of the semester next Monday 5th February. We will be selling delicious homemade treats in the courtyard from 11-4. Make sure to stop by!

*****The following is information regarding the selection day for the 2017 Irish Student Riding
Squad. For those of you who are new to college and student riding, the Irish University
Riding Clubs Association (IURCA) is the national governing body of student equestrian
Sports in Ireland. We are an affiliate of Horse Sport Ireland and also the European
Governing body AIEC*****

Every year we select a squad of riders who will represent Ireland in student equestrian events throughout Europe, Scandinavia and North America. The competitions are known as Student Riding Nations Cups (SRNC) and comprise both dressage and showjumping phases in which competitors compete on unfamiliar horses (these are all supplied at each event, you do not need your own horse) for both individual and team rankings. As such, we look for riders to bring forward to trials who can demonstrate a high proficiency in both flat work and over a course of fences. We have a strict criteria (see below) regarding the eligibility of riders whom we invite to try out at the selection day in front of our two squad coaches Gerald Bloomer and Louise Bloomer.

The selection day will take place on the 19th November 2017 in Brennanstown Riding Centre, Wicklow starting at 11.30.
Horses will be supplied on the day and you will be asked to demonstrate your ability on the flat, including showcasing some lateral movements. You will also be judged on how you tackle a course of fences which will be 90cms-110cms.
Cost will be confirmed once we have determined who we will be bringing forward to trials. Numbers will be limited to 25-30 riders.

Criteria
The minimum criteria to attend trials are as follows (this is in line with the criteria set out by
Student Sport Ireland):
1. A student must be fully registered and hold a student card for the institution with which they are internally registered.
2. Students must be at least 17 years and less than 28 years of age on January 1st in the year of the event (i.e. 01/01/2016)
3. Students must be a national of the country they represent.
4. Students must be pursuing a course of study that is equivalent to 60 ECTS
(European Credit Transfer System) credits per annum in Ireland and that leads to an award ranked at a minimum of Level 6 on the NQAI Framework (National Qualification Authority of Ireland), or 120 UK Academic credits per annum in Northern Ireland.
If you fulfil the above minimum criteria then the next step is to determine your eligibility with regards to the discipline in which you are most proficient i.e. if you mainly take part in showjumping or have done so in the past then you would have to fulfil the showjumping criteria set out below.

Show-jumper
• Competed to a minimum of 1.30m at affiliated events.
• Able to demonstrate a high level of flat work and dressage training.
Dressage
• Competed to a minimum of 1.15m at affiliated events.
• Competed to Prix St. George level.
Eventers
• Competed to a minimum of 1.20m at affiliated events.
• Competed to a minimum of 1* level.

Important - Commitment:
As a member of the IURCA squad you are required to make yourself available to the best of your ability when asked to ride at an SRNC. These take place at different times and in different countries throughout the year. While we realise that sometimes things come up beyond your control that may prevent you from riding/attending, please understand that any withdrawals from competition is a huge inconvenience to the organising committee. We ask that you only attend trials if you are capable of taking time to ride at these competitions or do not have overly binding commitments elsewhere.

SRNC Belgium (December/January)

Entry Forms
If you fulfil the requisite eligibility criteria set out above and feel you would be able to comply with the commitment required and wish to be considered for the selection day, please fill out the entry form attached and email it to [email protected] with the subject “Trials”. Closing date for receipt of entry forms will be midnight Sunday 15th NOVEMBER 2017. Please note that CVs must be in the format attached, no other form will be accepted. The top 25-30 riders will be called for trials based on their CVs.
