We operate a 24/7 animal welfare helpline. We are a registered charity with The Charity Regulator (20205896) The Leinster Horse & Pony Rescue (LHPR) is a registered charity (voluntary) dedicated to the welfare of horses and ponies in Leinster. LHPR rescue, rehabilitate and rehome equines that have been subjected to abuse, neglect, abandonment and deprivation. We respond to emergency calls regardin

g injured or distressed horses and ponies. We also carry out talks and presentations on responsible horse ownership and horse welfare to schools and colleges. Our rescue centre in Trim, County Meath is inspected yearly by The Department of Agriculture, Food and The Marine

This beautiful organisation has grown from just an idea and our urge to help. We rescue, rehabilitate, re-train and re-home Ireland's forgotten horses and ponies. We are an unincorporated body with a committee of four members. We are a registered charity with the Charity Regulator. Our RCN number is 20205896. LHPR has also been granted charitable tax exemption with Revenue, CHY22652

Leinster Horse and Pony Rescue operates two rescue centers in County Meath.

It is a large undertaking and rescue is stressful as it is, responding to calls, fundraising etc and then the worry of having enough volunteers.

We simply do not have enough volunteers and we are now facing closure.

Winter is nearly upon us and we can not head into winter with the number of volunteers we currently have - it is not sustainable.

We have a very handsome 14HH rising 4YO gelding available for long term foster.

Recently broken and riding - will need an experienced home to continue his education!

Has done flat work, some work on the road and arena work.

Good for farrier etc and easy to catch.

Entries for the RESCUE class at Trim Show are very slow... Come on guys, get your rescue friend entered and show people what rescue horses and ponies are really made off!

Entries extended until Friday 30th August.

This year at the request of the public, a RIDDEN rescue class has been introduced.

Our voluntary welfare officers respond to calls and where possible communicate with owners and offer advice to improve conditions on site.

As a last resort, we work with authorised officers such as The Gardai and remove the horse under The Animal Health and Welfare Act.

We were very grateful to recently receive updates on LHPR Domino. He is doing really well in his new home! ☺️

We will of course always remember his companion Atlas, who sadly had to be put to sleep shortly after we rescued him. He was in such a bad way.

If you come across any animal without water during warm weather, please while bearing your own safety in mind, try get some water to them!

Body Condition Score Chart.

It is best practice to evaluate your horses condition a few times a year. Especially heading into summer and just as we head into winter.

The optimum condition being number three on the scale.

It should be worth nothing point five on the scale is just as much of a welfare concern than point one is.

We will keep certain items at our centre for rescue and rehabilitation purposes and any items we don't need, we sell on to raise vital funds for vet bills, feed, farrier, rent etc

This weekend millions of euros and pounds will be spent on bets at Aintree. Sometimes we are slow to give back to those who have given so much... Please consider making a donation towards Molly's Dental Appeal today URGENT APPEAL .Molly is a skewbald mare rescued by Leinster Horse and Pony Rescue. She is 16 years of age. She is in our care two years now. She arrived in poor condition, underweight and full of worms. Her feet (hooves) were also very overgrown. Lately her behaviour has started to deteriorate and she shakes her head a lot. Last week we had our dental veterinarian take a look at her teeth and upon examination, two fractured teeth were found. One particularly bad - fractured in many places. Therefore she needs surgery to remove both teeth. Teeth extraction in horses is not easy, especially when they are fractured. Often an incision needs to be made in the cheek to allow for keyhole surgery. We have gotten a quote of the veterinary hospital for between €1,500 - €2000. Surgery is BOOKED FOR THURSDAY APRIL 11TH.
