It’s coming to the time of year where we have to prepare ourselves for firework season!🎇

It is common for pets to go missing around Halloween due to them not being desensitized to loud noises such as fireworks that they aren’t be exposed to on a daily basis. 🎆

It is important to have identification on your pet such as a collar and tag containing your contact number. We encourage you to ensure that your details are up to date on your pet’s microchip, don’t forget it is a legal requirement for your dog to be microchipped!

Calming aids such as Feliway (for cats) and Adaptil (for dogs) are available for pets to help them in the run up to events of stress. These products release calming pheromones which promote a more stress free environment for your pets. We recommend beginning to use these products now in preparation for Halloween. 🎃

Did you know that your new puppy may have to be wormed as often as every two weeks? 🪱🐶

Puppies can have worms passed onto them by their mother during the pregnancy (in utero) and also after birth through feeding and the ingestion of faecal material that they may be exposed to. Due to the potential for puppies to be born with worms or come into contact with them in their first few weeks of life it is essential to have a worming protocol for the healthy development of your puppy.🐾

The protocol suggested is as follows:
🐾 From the age of 2 weeks old to the age of 12 weeks old, we recommend that puppies should be wormed every 2 weeks.
🐾 From 12 weeks of age until puppies are 6 months old, they require to be wormed once a month.
🐾 Once the puppy is over 6 months of age, it can be wormed every 3 months or as advised by our vets.

☎️ The worm dose given will depend on your puppies weight. Don’t hesitate to phone the practice to book your puppy in for a weight consultation with one of our nurses.

Here we have beautiful Darwin pictured at his last diabetes management appointment 👏🏼

Darwin’s diabetes mellitus has been successfully treated with insulin and dietary management and he has now achieved diabetic remission

We used a combination of food and insulin injections in Darwin’s treatment plan to control his clinical symptoms

From ongoing BG (blood glucose) assessments we can now happily say that Darwin is in diabetic remission 🥳

Going forward the Ark vets team along with Darwin’s very dedicated family will work together to ensure that Darwin’s diabetes mellitus symptoms do not reoccur

We wish Darwin and his family the very best of luck with the next stage of his diabetic journey 🥰

Last week we presented the Carlow SPCA with a cheque of a massive sum of €2060! 🥳

We would like to thank each and everyone who donated and participated to our very successful charity climb of Lugnaquilla back in October, with a special thanks to hiking group who joined us on the day😁

We presented the cheque to Carlow SPCA members Jane Kelly and Marion Cummins who do amazing work for sick and injured animals within our community.

We hope to make these fundraisers an annual event for this wonderful charity.🤩

Gorgeous Freddie visited the clinic yesterday for his puppy consultation yesterday with one of our veterinary nurses 🤩

Freddie was very at ease during his visit and it was certainly a positive experience for both himself and his owner 🥰

We encourage our clients to visit the clinic frequently throughout the year with their pets for free weight checks etc so that the clinic becomes a familiar environment for the pet. This helps to make them feel more comfortable in our presence🤝

At Ark Veterinary Clinic we promote fear free veterinary visits. Fear free meaning we do everything we possibly can to prevent and alleviate stress and anxiety in pets when visiting the clinic so that we can look after your pets emotional and physical well-being 🤍

Tailor, a very special kitten🤍

Tailor first came to us at the clinic with a very sore tail injury that he received from being trapped under the bonnet of a car.
Tailor wasn’t suitable for surgery initially because of the placement of the injury which was located right at the tail base.

Tailor spent almost 5 weeks under the care of Jane from the CSPCA to allow his skin to heal naturally so that he could become suitable for surgery to remove part of his injured tail. Tailor visited us regularly at the clinic for wound checks and even had some overnight stays with our vets and nurses too ❤️

Tailor was so brave throughout the process and he eventually became suitable for surgery and had part of his tail amputated last week. He has since been recovering with Jane and is doing super 👏🏼

Well done to the Ark Team and CSPCA. What a super team effort 🫶🏻

Charity Climb in Support Of The Carlow Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals ⛰

This October the Ark Veterinary team will put on their hiking boots and climb to the peak of Lugnaquilla, the highest point in Leinster in aid of a very worthy community based cause the Carlow SPCA 🥾

Carlow SPCA are 100% volunteer based and have been operating in the community as an animal rescue for over 40 years and as a registered charity since 2005. The CSPCA do not receive any government or council funding of any kind and rely solely on donations from the public 🤍

As a thank you to their hard work and dedication within the community we have decided to set up this fundraiser to raise much needed funds that will be donated directly to the charity. A donation point can be found at Ark Veterinary Clinic Tullow📍

You can also follow the link below and in our bio to our gofundme account where you can donate via bank transfer 📲

No matter how big or small a donation, it will be greatly appreciated 🤝

Neutering & vaccinating your bunny is vital for a long and healthy life 🐰

Neutering mixed-sex pairs of rabbits is extremely important so that they can live happily together🤍

Female & male rabbits can be neutered from an early age, we advise to neuter from around 4-5 months old this. Male rabbits can be still fertile for up to 6 weeks after operating so must they must be kept separated from unspayed females ❗️

Vaccinations are just as important as neutering. Vaccinations are essential to protect your rabbits against the deadly diseases Myxomatosis, RVHD1 & RVHD2. These diseases are spread by contact with an infected rabbit or via contaminated objects ‼️

Here is little Snowdrop who was with us recently for his neutering procedure. Our veterinary professionals at Ark Veterinary Clinic take great care of rabbits when they visit us. We follow the best anaesthetic protocols to suit our practice. Rabbits are kept in a separate ward from our main kennel room to avoid stress, their peri & post-anaesthetic temperature is monitored carefully to avoid hypothermia and our rabbits are awake, alert and eating before they leave our clinic 🐾🐰

If you have any questions related to any of our rabbit information over the last few days please call the office on 059-9180622 a member of our will be happy to help ☎️

Bunny Housing 🏡
Your rabbits housing should be as big as possible and be an L2m x W0.6m x H0.6m at an absolute minimum. This ensures your bunny has enough room to take 3 hops and stretch fully upright 🐰

Rabbits are extremely playful so it is important that you provide them with lots of rabbit safe toys to keep them occupied 🎾

Provide your bunny with lots of spaces to hide in their housing so that they can feel safe from danger ⛔️

Rabbits can be housed both indoors as well as outdoors. Outdoor houses must be sheltered from the elements, provide a warm clean area for sleep and be free from dampness and draughts. Indoor housing must provide rabbit-proofed to ensure that they are safe and protected from hazards such as electric cables and indoor houseplants that are not safe for rabbits to eat 🏡
