Guidelines For Prevention Of Lumpy Skin Disease In Nagaland:
Lumpy Skin Disease (L*D) is a significant viral ailment affecting cattle and buffaloes, caused by the Capripox virus. This illness results in fever followed by the formation of stiff, round cutaneous nodules on the body. These nodules, ranging from 2 to 5 cm in diameter, lead to reduced milk yield, diminished draught power, abortions, infertility, and economic losses in the cattle trade. Given that the disease is transmitted by arthropod vectors like mosquitoes, flies, ticks, and fleas, the spread is challenging to control.

To prevent the transmission and impact of L*D, stakeholders are advised to adhere to the following dos and don'ts:

Prompt isolation of infected animals.

Avoid introducing suspected or febrile nodular skin-diseased animals to the farm.

Minimize common grazing areas to prevent direct contact.

Control vector populations using insecticides and repellents.

Apply ectoparasiticides to healthy animals.

Disinfect farm areas and vehicles carrying cattle using appropriate disinfectants.

Use protective gear when handling infected animals.

Implement strong bio-security measures.

Close cattle markets near epicenters.

Ban live cattle trade, fairs, shows, and movement to curb transmission.

Drain stagnant pools of urine and water around cowshed premises.

Quarantine new animals for a month before introducing them to the herd.

Practice scientific disposal of carcasses.

Report to Veterinary Health Centers for clinical surveillance.

Raise awareness among all stakeholders.

These guidelines are issued to farmers, traders, and the public to collectively prevent the transmission of L*D.

HAPPY TULUNI FESTIVAL WITH MY LOVE.
This is cute Hazel, 8 months old. She was playful & cheerful..jumping from the chair and bed when her love ones comes was her hobby to greet them with joy.
unfortunately on 7th July she lost her balance and fell down. She was in deep pain as both the forelimbs was fracture(complete & partial fracture of radius & ulna). And due to unbearable pain her owners couldn't control her & she bite the owner as she couldn't bear the pain.
They ring me up as it was lockdown and it's almost 3:30pm were most of the clinic shutdown. I took hold of the key & ride to their Home with emergency kits & 1st aid. On reaching their whom she was excited & in aggressive mood due to pain... I sedated with analgesia and on palpation there was fracture on both the forelimbs, inject with pain killers,oinment applied topically & wrapped with Bandages. suggest them to go for X-ray. For confirmation.
On 8th July A HAPPY TULUNI was celebrate with Hazel in vets hospital for POP(Plaster Of Paris.)
Advices:- complete proper rest for 21-30 days..
Pray🙏 & Hope that Hazel will have a complete rest and do well in coming Olympic Game..

U own a pet but u failed to take a preventive measure. Encounter 5 cases of Canine Distemper in 1 week ,while I feel deep pain for the pet & owner where we cannot help but give a supportive treatment. Yes, few adult & local breeds gives a fairly response(which become carriers of the virus to healthy dogs). But a puppy & non local breeds fails to overcome the virus & gives troublesome to the owner .
Take vaccination on time and give a healthy life for your lovely pets.
