Who says mongrels don't make great pets? Bravo's story will set the record straight.

Well done, BRAVO!
Mongrel saves family from fire! Text: Uma Karve Chakranarayan

He smelt the fire in his kitchen and knew he had to act fast. So Bravo the mongrel barked loudly hoping his dad Shesh Sarangdhar would wake up.

"My wife and I were really tired, so though I heard him, I ignored the barking. Finally, Bravo came pawing at our bedroom door upstairs. I opened the door thinking of putting him on a leash," says Shesh.

As Shesh opened the door, he saw his ground floor home full of smoke. "I ran down, filled up buckets of water from the garden and managed to douse the fire," says a much relieved Shesh.

And then he went to look for his boy, to thank him, and hug him. "He was under the table in the bedroom, being his usual scared self," smiles Shesh as he pats the approximately 3 year old Bravo.

Bravo was just another badly treated street dog in Greater Noida, till he came in contact with Shesh and his wife who fed him regularly. "When we moved from there, about 3 months ago, we adopted him. He came completely potty trained, never fusses over food and gives us lot of love," says Shesh of his brave boy. The celebration was simple: Some boiled chicken for the smart dog!

Initially, the pack of 3 -Tiger, Proxy and Charlie in the Sarangdhar home gave Bravo a hard time but they are now all friends. At the time of the fire, they were napping in the terrace of their home. Bravo was the only one downstairs.

Bravo's act proves yet again that dogs are intelligent and caring, pedigree irrespective.

And now we wonder who rescued who!

With so many 3's in the story, its three cheers for Bravo, hiphip hurray!
