The polytechnic was established in 1958 by the Philanthropist Thiru.Karumuthu Thiagarajan Chettiar. The polytechnic is located on the state highway in the heart of Salem city, just one kilometer from railway junction and two kilometers from central bus stand. The pioneer institution has now blossomed into a premier technical education institution in fifty years and it is in fitness of things that his Excellency, Dr. A.P.J.AbdulKalam, the former president of India, inaugurated the Golden Jubilee celebrations on the 12th August, 2009.
