What is one thing about your dog that surprises you the most?
I'm always inspired by how much our furry friends can pick up so soon in life!
I believe that we underestimate the power of young puppies to learn. They are able to learn many things in the early stages of their development, and it is really amazing to see. For example, they can learn:
1. The sound of an opening food pack leads to a meal.
2. They understand that the kitchen is the place where food comes from.
3. They can identify the person who feeds them, plays with them, and so on.

🐶❤️ Dogs may not be able to express themselves in words, but their emotional capacity is equivalent to that of a 2-3 year old child! It's important for us as humans to take the time to interpret their behavior and body language to make sure that they are feeling happy and loved 🐶

If your dog eats p**p, then there might be several reasons behind this behavior. This behaviour is called coprophagia.
A dog may develop the habit of eating his own p**p due to medical or behavioral reasons.
The most common reason is
1. Nutritional deficiency.
2. Unsupervised dog
3. Incorrect or incomplete toilet training training.

Beggars can be choosers!
What is your definition of table manners?
What is your take on feeding your dog while you eat?
Either you want your dog to beg or ask for food while you eat or you don't want them to do so. Don't confuse them by saying I do not want them to ask for food only when visitors are at the dining table. Please don't confuse them by letting them make the decision and then blaming them for being unruly, greedy, and ill-mannered. Be clear with your expectation and hence the communication right from the start.
Some tips if you want to help your dog understand the table rules better!
1.Never feed food from the table while eating
2.Make sure everyone in the family is on the same page with table rules.
3.Feed them first and setup up a solid routine
4. Feeding routine in a different room from where you dine always helps.
5. Teaching a strong Stay and Leave it cue builds the skill needed for this
6. Don't let them be unsupervised when food is around.
7. Don,t punish but train them as punishing may end up confusing them more and spoiling your relation.
Of course, there are more things one may do regarding this behavior but these may differ from one situation to another.

But wait, let's plan things before this tiny thing enters your life and steals your heart.

We need to puppy proof the house. How? Covering all the exposed wires, keeping all breakable/display pieces on high racks or behind tight cupboards where your pup can't reach, etc. We need to set some realistic rules for your puppy to understand and follow. Rules like entering the kitchen or climbing on the bed. We all need to be on the same page. We need to have a family discussion to finalise the rules and everyone should stick by it! We need to set and follow these rules from day one. Our puppy won't understand changed rules later. All the rules and boundaries should be consistent. For example, when you come home and if you are in a good mood, you wouldn't mind your puppy jumping on you to greet you. But may be if you have had a bad day, you may not appreciate the jumping. This difference your pup won't understand. So its best if everyone works together and gives the same feedback.

Some rules that you should have are:
1. Wait before putting the food down. To avoid spilling or injury due to excitement.
2. Polite greeting, not everyone may be comfortable with all the jumping.
3. No rough play. It could hurt your pup or you.
4. Designated toilet place, for both your convenience.
5. No appreciating unnecessary barking.
And you may add more to your own rules....

I need a calm friendly dog for companionship? Which breed do I go for?

The most common question asked by potential pet parents. After a lot of discussion, guidance from pet owners and breed popularity and availability, they most likely settle with a Labrador. Without a doubt, it is one of the best breeds to keep it at home. But why India's most popular breed is being abandoned and rehomed so often these days?
Generally, Labradors are very intelligent, trainable, confident, friendly dogs. This breed is very energetic and needs a lot of exercise. Every dog that comes to your family has no idea about your world. So train him and teach him so that he knows what is expected of him. Failing to do so will invite a lot of problems like hyperactivity, barking, jumping, stealing, biting and a lot MORE. So when you think of getting a Labrador, be ready to fulfill all the needs of your pup. And the result is, you get a good dog who understands you well and behaves as per the situation. A dog who plays like there is no tomorrow greets you like a gentleman and understands you like your best friend.

When do you think emotional presentation is most honest? When are you sure the emotion is true? I feel it's most honest when you can see it in the eyes of the individual.

Hachi is the love of my life. She has made me the person I am today. She turned 10 today. I am amazed at how many new things she teaches me everyday. She has taught me that consistency, commitment and loyalty does not take too much effort. It just needs patients. It needs a pure heart with no negativity. It means loving someone with everything you have and not expecting anything in return. It means longing to spend every moment in your life with the person you love the most. Her eyes, her expression, her beauty is unmatched. My love for her grows by the second. I cherish every moment with her. And I can always see it in her magnificently expressive eyes that there is no one in this universe that loves me the way she does. She made me believe that looking into her eyes, hugging her and her non stop licks are all I need to make every pain, every problem go away.
No one can ever replace everything she I giving me. No one can match the love she has been showering on me. No one can just sit by my side and let me know they are supporting me through everything, the way she does.
My Hachi, my baby, my amazing daughter, my beautiful partner-in-crime, my innocent hachitoooo, my everything. Happy Birthday to the only angel I believe in. She is a 10 year old puppy. She has always been mature enough to know exactly what to do since she was a puppy. She is always going to be the puppy she was, her body grew into an adult but her heart and soul is still that of a puppy.
I hope you find someone the way I found her. She saved me and I will always be grateful to her for it.

Why do they choose sticks, socks, handkerchiefs, paper-balls, leaves and cartons over expensive toys? Why? Why are they so simple?
It's because they are not like humans.
To me Hachi is my daughter, she is my world, she is my everything. I say that with pride! This emotion has only gone up in the past 10 years. She has changed me a lot as a person and taught me so many things that no books could teach. I have developed a special voice tone to talk to her(only with her), it may be embarrassing for some people. Hachi loves that and for her I am the most interesting person in the world.
The important thing here is to understand the difference, she is a dog after all, and I know that. So, I have loved her like a daughter, but ensured she gets what she needs as a dog. I value her emotions, her needs over my expectations. It includes a balanced combination of love + warmth and guidance + discipline. So love, affection, play and rewards for her when she does something I appreciate, and discourage to stop a behavior when she does anything she is not supposed to. No other way!

Dogs love to keep their life simple!

Vocal for Local
Well done to our Prime Minister for promoting Indian breeds of dogs; but to clarify, the breeds he suggested- the Kombai, Chippiparai, Rajapalayam and the Kanni are not breeds suitable for pet dog homes.
These are hunting hounds and will be miserable living in a city home. Please do not go and purchase one without thought. They need plenty of open space to run, love hunting and cannot thrive by sleeping all day and getting two walks on a leash.
If you would like to get an Indian breed, our pariah dogs and pariah crosses are a great option to consider and most shelters will be happy to help you adopt one.

When was the last time you spoke to your dog?
Did you ever try to understand what your dog is trying to say?
Has he ever tried to tell something by making eye contact, laying his head on your foot, nuzzling his nose into the crook of your arm, cuddling next to you, smiling, pawing, turning his head away?
They can't speak our language in a way, but does it mean they don't talk?
I believe dogs want us to understand them and respect their likes, dislikes, space, and boundaries. I have seen friendliest of the dogs refusing to greet someone or the most energetic dogs not wanting to go for a walk.
How many of us give them what they want, protect them from being in a stressful situation, and let them do what they want to do for a moment?

Yes, puppies do watch, observe and learn. Dogs are very good observers, and they can understand the patterns and act accordingly.
Have you observed your dog recognizing the the small details in the environment, and behaving in a certain manner without any formal training?
Some examples are
Get ready to greet:Identifying the sound of your vehicle downstairs (even though there are other similar vehicles in your society)
Bark or keep quite : depending on who is ringing the bell,
Start following you :when you get ready for walks,
Get excited for food : After hearing the sound of the food bag
Anticipate a visitor : When the elevator stops at your floor
And numerous other examples...
