IntroductionAlthough many owners are satisfied by dog ownership, large numbers of dogs are relinquished annually, with an estimated 130,000 dogs cared for each year by rescue organisations in the UK. Unrealistic ownership expectations are a potential factor in the decision to relinquish and therefor...

Cats can pick up on our body language and emotions, but can they smell when you're stressed? Let's take a look at some new research!
At last some really good news https://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/media-centre/2023/april/cruel-electric-shock-collars-banned-in-england/?fbclid=IwAR2wKGCDvecgEHSPfvM-T48W97b3fyTwCCOoMkOV4xxP5e9Q9sn_t0whMro
The Government has laid legislation which will completely ban the use of remote controlled electric shock collars in England, as of 1 February 2024,
Of course you can involve food as well. Use your dogs own food. Make feeding fun.

Ad-hoc counter-conditioning and relaxation training work, say owners, but many other treatments don’t.
The notion that dogs are naturally ‘status driven’ and will use aggressive behaviour to gain recognition as ‘top dog’ within the human families they live in is based on outdated research, which has been shown to be significantly flawed. However, the concept has been historically so well-rece...
😴Did you know that dogs should have around 16 hours of sleep a day?! 😴
This is really important to remember as lack of sleep has a negative impact on emotional capability and therefore can be detrimental to their welfare if they feel overwhelmed in the situations they are placed in.
Even if you feel that your dog does not have an emotional disorder, problems may develop over time if they are unable to rest and then have lots of busy scenarios going on around them.
For our "hyper" dogs, who in other words are displaying signs that they are not coping emotionally, doing less with them can help massively.
Taking them on shorter walks which are quiet in regards to people and dogs, giving them opportunities to settle in their crate or bed or finally maybe giving them more space if they have had a difficult experience- for example a vet trip.
Evidence to show that dogs can smell if we are stressed. You can't hide your feelings from your best friends.
Previous research suggests that dogs can detect when humans are experiencing stress. This study tested whether baseline and stress odours were distinguishable to dogs, using a double-blind, two-phase, three-alternative forced-choice procedure. Combined breath and sweat samples were obtained from par...

🐾🐾 Totally DOGS Tuesday 🐾🐾
A new study, led by The Royal Veterinary College (RVC), has revealed a huge demand for designer crossbreed dogs in the UK between 2019 and 2020 and has identified the main factors behind the increasing demand – including beliefs that they are more hypoallergenic, generally healthy, easy to train and good with children, which could be misconceptions based on current evidence. The new study also suggests that this increased demand poses a significant risk to the health and welfare of these designer dogs due to high demand leading to poor breeding and to buyers unintentionally supporting puppy farming and illegal importation of underage puppies.
