Let me take a moment to reintroduce myself as I'm reintroducing Prodigy Paws to activate business again...

My name is Emily, I have been working with dogs since 2014 and don't have any plans to stop!
I've worked in kennels, grooming salons, for training companies, and also ran an animal shelter for a time. Through all this I have worked with a LOT of dogs and have gained lots of experience with different breeds, behavior problems, and of course
I have been officially training dogs since 2015 and have been doing my best to continuously expand my knowledge on the subject.
I'm currently a professional member of the International Association of Canine Professionals as well as an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator.
My family moves around frequently due to my husband's occupation but I just look at it as a chance to learn more from a new place!

Have an questions? Let me know!

I've had several messages from folks in S. Korea still looking for an English speaking trainer. Unfortunately myself and Pavlov & Paws are headed back stateside. While there aren't any physical trainers we can point you to you still have options! Right now one of my mentors, Ted Efthymiadis, is having an awesome sale on an online course, you can check it out here: https://mangodogs.thinkific.com

If that isn't your style and you would prefer someone to have sessions with you online check out Tom Davis at Upstate canine academy
https://americascanineeducator.com/online-enrollment/

And if want more variety in training videos check out Tyler Muto with Consider the Dog at https://www.considerthedog.com/

Don't wait for problem behaviors to become worse, start training today!

02/10/2020

Though I'm ready to go back to work, the timing didn't work out. We're PCSing and are no longer accepting new clients. If you are still in need of training please reach out! There are some great trainers running online classes/ training seminars that we can point you to! Don't wait to get help until your back in the states!

*Active clients that still have unused sessions will have time to complete them. If I haven't reached out to you already please send me a message. All sessions need to be completed by the first week of November.

Rebel Rescue South Korea

Now that Maui is safe and sound, and we can breathe again, we wanted to take a moment to provide some information to our loving community about how to prevent your pet from ever getting lost in the first place. These are especially important for fosters, as your dog doesn't know you yet! It is absolutely terrifying when a pet runs off, and we don't want anyone to go through that heartbreak! So take a read and please - Don't skip these and end up regretting it later!

STEP 1: ID
1... the FASTEST way to get your pet back? Keep your phone number on him AT ALL TIMES. For those of us in Korea and ESPECIALLY for our fosters, this means your Shindogs Pet tag!! This tag connects the Korean shelters right to someone who can save your pet and let you know where they are!
2... microchip your pet
3... update your microchip info!! Those of us connected to the military move a lot - make updating your pet's info part of your moving process!
4... have a vet check the microchip once a year to be sure it still works
5... Notice we put your pet's tag as number 1?? Do NOT rely on a microchip only to get your pet home -- it only helps if and when someone scans for a chip (i.e., a vet's office or shelter). Microchips are backup only. BEST WAY IS TO KEEP YOUR PHONE NUMBER ON YOUR PET!

STEP 2: INTRODUCTIONS
6... introduce your pet to residents in your neighborhood. Your neighbors can't help you find your dog if they don't know what he looks like!
7... For people in the US, list him on NextDoor or similar neighborhood apps

STEP 3: LEASHES, COLLARS, AND HARNESSES
8... keep your pet on leash! Read that again.
9... never clip a leash to a regular collar -- they're easy to slip out of. We seriously cannot emphasize this enough! Only attach leashes to a well fitted harness or a separate secure collar such as a "Martingale," slip lead, choke, modified prong, Gentle Leader or other collar that is much more secure. Keep that important ID tag on the separate collar not attached to the leash!

STEP 4: TRAINING
10... train your dog to stay on your property (learn to boundary train)
11... train him to wait at all doors - house, car, etc.- and to not bound out
12... train him to some type of return command - "turn around", "back," etc.

STEP 5: MAINTENANCE
13... check your fence once a month - weak spots, breaks, etc do develop
14... move all items away from the fence so he can't step up and out
15... lock your gates - dog theft is a very real thing

STEP 6: TRAVELING
16... keep a good picture and shot records in your car's glovebox
17... use a doggie seatbelt

Of course, we know that training will take some time but most of these are simple ways to keep your furbaby safe!

If you have any questions on this, feel free to message us!
If you want to adopt to keep our mission of protecting all our dogs going, our PayPal is [email protected]

This poor pup got loose in the Osan area near Cloud 9 apartments! Please keep an eye out for him! It's super important he's found before the fireworks go off tonight!

❗❗❗ A T T E N T I O N ❗❗❗

Edit- Wednesday, July 15th: still no Baymax 😞 If you think you see Baymax, please take a photo and note the location, and notify us immediately! There are unfortunately lots of similar looking dogs, and we’re still desperate to get him back 💔

Edit-Friday, July 10th: there is now a ₩500,000 reward for finding Baymax. Please help us by looking, spreading the word, and joining us for the search party Saturday morning!

Edit-Thursday, July 9th: No new sightings reported 😞 We’re still out looking! Please join us for a large search party on Saturday morning at 0730 in the Cloud9 courtyard.

Edit-Tuesday, July 7th: Baymax is still missing. He’s been sighted a few times, but we haven’t been able to get there quickly enough 😭 Please help if you can— we’ve found multiple dog meat farms in the area while we’ve been searching the past few days— we don’t want him falling into the wrong hands 😭
—————

Please help! Our wonderful boy Baymax slipped out of his home this morning. He's a sweet and happy big-headed jindo mix that just likes to explore and meet people. He's very friendly, and may very likely come right up to you if you get his attention. If he does, please just give him lots of love and call us so we can come get him!

Baymax escaped from the Cloud 9 apartment complex near Sinjang Park area of Osan, but this is a new home for him so he could have wandered away from the area. Unfortunately, he is not wearing his collar.

Please help!!!!

If you see or catch Baymax, please contact:
305-491-1904 (foster)
010-8314-6044 or 010-4481-6585 (RRSK volunteers)
Or message our page

Thank you!!!

Thank you so much for all the support ❤

Homeward Bound Osan

UPDATE: SHE'S BEEN FOUND!❤❤❤❤

One of our dogs, Wendigo, got away from their foster in the SED this morning! Please be on the look out for her but DO NOT APPROACH as she is very shy of humans. Please give the shelter a call if she is spotted.
She is a golden brown Jindo mix and has slipped her harness.

20/05/2020

Now that we're in Bravo status Prodigy Paws is happy to begin scheduling private and group dog training courses. Unfortunately classes will not last long as I will be taking maternity leave starting either the beginning or middle of July so get in while the weather is great and classes are going!
The next group class will begin Saturday May 30th at 0900 to ensure we catch the nice cool weather in the morning. If we have enough interest we will open a second course before leave begins.
Let us know if you have any questions about our courses! Hope to see you soon! 🙂

Homeward Bound Osan

Homeward Bound Osan is in urgent need of dog fosters as we have a very large number anticipated to come in the next few days.
We do not have much information in regards to age, breed, or size of these animals currently but will be posting as we learn more.
We have a very small facility and only have just enough space for 3 dogs to stay with us. The rest will need to go to foster homes.
Please apply to foster on our website www.homewardboundosan.org and we will reach out to you as soon as we can.
If you already have an application on file please send us a message here on Facebook and of we gave not contacted you.

Recently, we've seen an increase in number of concerned families taking to Facebook looking for advice on new behavior problems such as aggression, resource guarding, or the worst one, biting/ snapping at children. Please understand that if you are dealing with a new behavior problem like this with your dog it is wise to seek advice, but it is not wise to ask the Facebook public. I have seen some incredibly bad advice given that commenters were incredibly lucky had work for their situation.

Myself as a dog trainer never makes recommendations over Facebook comments. This is not because I want more money, in fact I would rather there not be a need for behavior rehab dog trainers at all. Unfortunately this is not the case. I don't make recommendations over Facebook comments for the sheer fact that there is no one size fits all for dog aggression. Each dog needs to be approached and rehabbed with a personalized regimen.

Next time you see a post on Facebook about something similar please recommend a dog trainer that has experience or better yet specializes with aggression.
Especially when it comes to homes where there is biting/ snapping/ growling at children there is no room for error.

For those of you in Korea I know your options are limited. Please feel free to reach out to us at Prodigy Paws (located at Osan) or to Pavlov & Paws (located at Camp Humphrey's)

Had a great live session in our virtual course this morning! What training have you been doing at home?

15/04/2020

Oxford County Veterinary Clinic

Night 3- black nails. This depends on the length, but look under the nail for the ‘flesh/quick’ this is the area you have to avoid (arrow). Then as you cut look at the end of the nail. There will be a ‘bullseye’ as you get closer to the quick. This changes in a millimetres, so be careful. Once you see the darker middle you are very close, at this stage, use the clippers on an angle on each side to take the sharpness of a new nail down. Flour or corn starch will stop a bleeding nail. How often? Depends on the dog, running/walking surface, activity level. But the more you do cut the nails, the shorter the quicks become.

‼️Never leave dog and baby unattended‼️

Even if they seem to be getting along swimmingly it’s extremely important that your pup and baby are always supervised when together.

Always keep an eye on your dog’s body language when he is around your baby and separate them immediately if you notice any signs of aggression.

Dog trainers make mistakes too! Check out this short cut from my virtual class today. I like to make sure these are not cut out so my students can learn from my mistakes. Can you name the 2 big mistakes I made?
*Hint* both mistakes are made with Midnight, the large dog on the couch.

Do you have good communication with your dog?
Think about the behavior problems your dog may have. They may be small or they may be large. Much of the time a dog that is versed in obedience and conditioned relaxation can have new problems, old problems, big problems and small solved by the utilization of those skills.

Don't get me wrong, not all behaviors can be solved by obedience but the common problems such as over excitement (on walks or towards people and dogs, etc.), counter surfing, jumping, mouthing, barking, rushing the door and so on can be solved by utilizing basics all dogs should know.

This is why I've created our virtual obedience course to ensure that any frustrations that you and your pup may be having can be solved in an efficient, beneficial and fun way for all.

Don't you want to get started on the road to better communication with your dog?

Teaching Heel: Step one

Here's a short cut from one of my recent group classes. Here I am teaching the first step to heel. Join us for our virtual obedience course to learn more! I will be hosting live sessions as well as sharing example videos. Plus you will receive all the same feedback that in person students get by submitting your own videos of working with your dog! This way you don't miss out on teaching your dog the right way!

Prodigy Paws is pairing up with Homeward Bound Osan and offering anyone who fosters a dog through HBO or another shelter affected by the COVID-19 lockdowns a 50% discount on our virtual course. That makes the class only $20 all while you are helping a shelter animals adaptability sky rocket!

You know what's a good, safe activity during Covid-19 lockdown? FOSTERING A DOG!

At this point in time we are trying to find fosters for our 4 remaining dogs so our volunteers don't have to leave their self quarantine or place themselves at risk by leaving their homes.

If you are able to foster one of our 4 dogs please place a foster application at www.homewardboundosan.org

The 4 dogs pictured below are who we are looking to get in homes! Please click on their pictures for descriptions and their ideal fosters
