Newborn pups dumped in a box by a road during the heavy rains and delivered to us today...
This is what we are up against !
We have also taken in some other very frail pups over the last days. They would benefit from puppy milk too.
Lucie, kindly agreed to foster the newborns as we are so stretched at the sanctuary.
However, we are almost out of puppy milk powder.

The 3 survivors of the large litter dumped in Akuressa- 2 girls and a boy. The other siblings are all dead. 🥲
Dumping = Murder 😡
The dumpings will never end until strict laws come into place and humans start to become more humane.
The pups are named Sheru, Aacha and Basanti.. all have babesia gibsoni.
We have no space left at the sanctuary and having to use our garage area for these pups.
We work under extreme stress daily. It's emotionally draining, but the animals need us.
We need local fosterers- Are there any kind animal lovers who can help please to relieve the pressure on us ?? 🙏
We need to expand our facility .. Are there any kind animals lovers who can help to facilitate this please ? 🙏

Also we need to start covering our costs for saving these lives and treating pups like this for a life threatening disease like babesia. Atovaquone is hugely expensive, but will save these pups.

He was rescued from a bus stand in Hikkaduwa back in January 2011 by Kay, the founders friend and has lived at the sanctuary ever since.
Bus Stop Fred was one of the iconic characters at the sanctuary, hugely loved, a very cheeky chappie, a flirt with the ladies and visited almost every year by Kay, his rescuer. He never forgot her...
He was one of our few sponsor dogs too.
Fred had seen so many changes at the sanctuary over the years, met new friends, lost old friends and seen the project grow. He was respected by the pack and a huge character.
Fred was around 15 years of age and succumbed to renal failure last night.
Life will never be quite the same, but we gave him many happy years and an extremely long life he would not have had if left at that bus stand all those years ago.
RIP darling, your spirit will remain at the sanctuary and you will remain in our hearts until we meet again 😭😭😭😭

We know many pets in Sri Lanka spend their entire miserable lives imprisoned in small wooden kennels or are left chained.
This is animal cruelty, but during the rainy season and flooding, it’s a death sentence as these dogs stand no chance of survival due to your inhumane practices.
If you really care, set them free so they have a chance of living and not dying.
You are responsible for their lives…. do the right thing

We are almost out of tinned dog food, dry dog kibble, tinned cat food, dry cat kibble, also cat litter - We use loads of cat litter for our cats/kittens.
We have 2500 mouths to feed at the sanctuary !! We use this food to supplement the main cooked meal and extra meals for critical cases/new arrivals that are emaciated and weak.
Feeding costs amount to 50% of our monthly running costs and we are struggling.

You may remember the other critical case that came in on the same day as Python. A poor soul that had been in an accident and was dying without any help. She arrived barely alive, in shock, dehydrated, tick fever.. the usual horrors we see every day.
As most of you know by now, we don't give up on these seemingly hopeless cases.
We know from many years experience that you can bring them back from the brink of death if you care enough and have the clinical experience. That's why we have so many survivors at the sanctuary.
Kiyanduwa was so critical and it was touch and go, but she has now improved and we are more hopeful she will win her battle for life..
Their lives really do depend on us.
Every day we are taking in critical cases like this, but no funds to expand our facility as we are full to bursting point and no funds to keep going for more than a 3 months now.
Sad that the dedicated and pro-life charities that fight so hard to save these poor souls, have to fight for survival too.
It should not be that way and only you can change that by supporting and donating so we remain there for these otherwise doomed street animals.

A fun afternoon in Redbridge with fellow dog lovers and all to help raise funds for the charity and the street dogs/cats in Sri Lanka.
Huge thanks to all the lovely people who attended and helped to arrange this event, especially the lovely Kerrie, who volunteered at the sanctuary many years back and has helped us ever since.
The event was so well organised with food, drinks and lovely raffle prizes. The dogs had such fun too.
Handsome Riley attended with Kim to represent the Sri Lankan street pooches.
Thank you again to everyone involved, a brilliant effort and £548 was raised !! 👏👏👏👏👏

Alerted to a critical case in Moratuwa... dog by roadside after a suspected accident and has fractures and breathing problems.
Animal SOS is unable to help dogs from all over the country, we already have 2500 rescues including 500 disabled dogs and struggling to survive !!!

Huge thanks to the lovely supporters who donated towards the tumble dryer appeal.
2 tumble dryers have already been delivered to the sanctuary and 2 more tumble dryers ordered and will be delivered next week.
Now we will have dry bedding for our beloved rescues during the rains.

Despite being full, we had more horror cases today .. a dog lying and dying in a road in Akuressa after an accident and a puppy attacked and critically injured by a python.
Both female dogs are fighting for their lives at the sanctuary tonight...
This is why we need to be there for these animals and why we need YOUR support to continue this precious lifeline.

The endemic puppy dumping in Sri Lanka is soul destroying..
Every day, in every area, we hear about innocent pups/kittens being dumped in dangerous places, often busy roads or by lakes with monitor lizards to devour them. Some are newborns and not yet opened their eys.
The problem is islandwide and shows just how heartless human beings really are.
Many of these litters are from house dogs because people can't be bothered to have their pets sterilised.
There are many free neutering programs in Sri Lanka now compared to many years back and some have financial support to do mass spay programs.
However, the sight of puppies and kittens squashed in the roads or being dumped in dangerous places, or near the sanctuary when we are struggling with lack of space and funds, is an unbearable stress.
The situation is a huge emotional weight to bear.
We took these three surviving pups in (RIP sibling) but we need to find local fosters now. We can't continue taking in endless numbers of vulnerable pups, we do not have space.
Health checks/treatments/vaccinations/neutering, will be done on all 3 pups, so please help to cover our costs.

New arrival from Hakmana, an old girl named Lady. She is around 13 years old and was hit by a vehicle.
Lady arrived in a weak and dehydrated state. She has a mandibular symphysial fracture, right carpal joint fracture with an infected open wound, a mammary mass in one of the teats, a ge***al TVT, mange....the usual cocktail of horrors we see when dogs arrive at our gates.
Treatments have started and we now need to cover our costs for giving a lifeline to this sweet old soul.

We were alerted to an accident case in Weligama.
So many street animals are hit by vehicles and there is very little help for these stricken animals, particularly now we are unable to expand our project and lack space.
We initially thought this dog was disabled, but she is able to stand , although incredibly weakend with babesia and ehrlichiosis-both tick-borne diseases that kill 1000's of dogs in Sri Lanka. She also has some superficial wounds from the accident.
Named Betty Boop, she now has a chance at least of survival.
Most dogs like her die without any help at all.

Last month we took in a disabled dog that was stabbed. We named her Manali.. She had babesia, an eye condition, as well as the horrific wound on her back.
We realised she was already pregnant and today we had to perform a c-section to deliver her babies.
Both female pups had issues at birth- one required surgery as the intestines were exposed, the other pup has deformed legs.
Our vets worked hard to save the family.
Will keep you updated on Manali and her babies..

Late last year, these beautiful pups were dumped in a box in Madiha, in heavy rain, near snakes and monitor lizards. 🥲🥲
The founder rescued the family and fostered them.
The male pup was found a lovely home and an appeal was made to home the remaining female pups.
A lovely UK supporter stepped in and offered to fund the costs and adopt one of the female pups. 🙏🙏
This week they were united in the UK.
Such a joyful moment because every life saved and given a good life, is a blessing in such a cruel and depressing world ..
Now named Kiki, we wish her and her lovely family the happiest future together ### ❤️🩷❤️

You may remember Mouse.. She came to us a few years back as a tiny pup after having a double amputation after an accident.
We took her in as the wounds were badly infected and dripping with pus.
Mouse was also severely anaemic due to babesia and had not passed stools since her amputation surgery.
It was touch and go and she was so critical, but we never gave up on her and she fought hard too..
We pulled her through the infection, nursed her through the babesia and soon she started to thrive.
The ultimate happy ending for her happened yesterday when she was collected from LHR and adopted by the founder of the charity. She will now join the London doggy gang, including Scrumpy, another disabled dog Kim has adopted.
Mouse has settled in really well and is such a super little dog. She will be spoilt rotten for the rest of her days...

All our oversees adoptions are privately funded by the adopters.
These happy endings make it all worthwhile ❤️❤️❤️

Since Milo is not used to living on the street, we have boarded Milo at Urban Coop for a few days, we are looking to foster Milo until we can find his owner or until we can give Milo up for adoption to a kind home.

Milo was taken to Best Care Animal Hospital for a checkup and fully vaccinated.

Lea, a disabled girl we took in. She has drag wounds and babesia gibsoni- a tick-borne disease that kills 1000's of dogs in Sri Lanka.
Luckily for her, we have the best meds for this blood parasite and our survival rates are high. However the medicine-Atovaquone, is very expensive.
