🚫 Toxicity, as discussed this week, can vary between human foods, household plants and household products which are toxic to cats & dogs. Toxicity can occur from exposure or ingestion.

🍫 If your pet has ingested something toxic, they may exhibit these clinical signs. The symptoms vary with the type of toxic exposure. If these symptoms are noticed, it’s advised to rush your pet to your vet for treatment.

☠️ Poison Prevention Week: Common Household Products Toxic to Cats & Dogs

🚫 While the toxicity of household products seems quite obvious, the most common emergencies we get falls into this category. More often than not, a pet would be caught ingesting rat poison or human medicine. It’s important to remember to store household products out of reach.

🧴We advise pet owners to identify which products are safe to use on and around pets. For instance, human shampoos & conditioners are not suitable for pets, and strong household cleaners may cause skin problems.

💊 A very frequent problem we encounter is human medicine being fed to pets. For instance, panadol is toxic to cats. Please remember that products made for humans may not be agreeable for pets. Do not diagnose or treat your pets, instead allow your vet to do so.

🪴Here is a list of common household plants that you need to be vary of. The complexity lies in identifying which species are bad for your pets. For instance, true ferns are non-toxic, while asparagus ferns are toxic to both cats and dogs.
