The Vibrant Geophagus Tapajos Redhead: A Stunning Addition to Your Aquarium

Discover the allure of the Geophagus Tapajos Redhead, a captivating species of cichlid renowned for its striking appearance and intriguing behavior. With its vibrant red head contrasting against its sleek body, this fish adds a pop of color and elegance to any aquarium setting.

Originating from the Tapajos River basin in Brazil, the Geophagus Tapajos Redhead thrives in warm, slightly acidic waters with plenty of hiding places and soft sandy substrate. In its natural habitat, it inhabits slow-moving rivers and flooded forest areas, where it sifts through the substrate in search of food.

In the aquarium, these fish are best kept in spacious tanks with ample swimming room and hiding spots created by driftwood, rocks, and live plants. They are generally peaceful but can become territorial, especially during breeding periods. Providing multiple hiding spots and territories within the tank can help mitigate aggression.

🐟🌟 Exciting News for Pleco Enthusiasts! 🌟🐟

Hey fellow fish enthusiasts! I wanted to share a thrilling update with you all. I've been fortunate enough to have these amazing L200 plecos from the Rio Orinoco in my care for over a decade now. They're some of my absolute favorites, and I'm thrilled to announce that I'm embarking on a journey to breed them!

It's no small feat, and I anticipate some challenges along the way, but the prospect of nurturing a new generation of these incredible fish is an honor I'm eager to take on. 🥳🌿

Baryancistrus demantoides L200 Hi Fin

It took a while for the worldwide Pleco community to realize that there were two different species exported from Colombia as L200. The original one, Hemiancistrus subviridis, is more common in the trade. B.demantoides, often called L200 “hi-fin”, is rarer. B.demantoides is a very beautiful Pleco with it's yellow/brown colours, and once settled it's also a hardy aquarium inhabitant if given proper conditions. They will eat your Swordpants though.

Facts:

Name: Baryancistrus demantoides (Werneke, Sabaj, Lujan & Armbruster, 2005)

Trade names: L200 “hi fin”

Origin: Rio Atabapo, Rio ventuari, Venezuela.

Maximum size: 17 cm / 7''

B.demantoides is very similar to Hemiancistrus subviridis (L200), which it lives syntopic with in the wild. They can be told apart by looking at the dorsal fin; in B.demantoides there is a membrane that connects the dorsal and adipose fin. If you look at their mouth, B.demantoides has a less circular mouth than H.subviridis.

L200 “hi fin” are true vegetarians, and should be fed a varied diet of vegetables and pellets containing much green matter. Some frozen foods and more meat-based dry food can be offered occasionally. B.demantoides does not grow as large as it's Brazilian Baryancistrus cousins, but should still be offered a roomy tank. Clean, well filtered, oxygen rich, warm water is required. Breeding has occurred, but is rare. The male, recognized by it's heavier odontodal growth and wider head, guards the clutch in a suitable cave.
