FOSTER NEEDED in El Paso:
Hi all, Mascotas para Migrantes is working with a local lawyer in hopes of helping this pup who has been separated from her human. Here's what she shared:
This female dog (I’m calling her Ruby), approximately 4-6 years old according to my vet, was accompanying a minor migrant from Guatemala when he was detained by the feds on Dec. 26th. The minor was separated from the dog upon detention. After a few days, the dog ended up at the City Shelter. The optimal situation would be to reunite the minor with his dog, but I do not know the minor’s name nor where he might be at this point, so reunification seems like a big long shot.
Our local congresswoman’s office was unable to help since minors’ information is not released by the feds. Our main migrant assistance group was not sure how to find the minor either.
If you have any migrant organization contacts, maybe it is just a question of putting the word out that this dog could be reunited with her minor if he can take her to wherever he is headed.
Ruby did well in her wellness check at my vet, but she is about 10 lbs underweight. She is fine with my other foster dog (a neutered male lab mix). She was spayed on Tuesday (Jan. 4th). She was totally hugging the vet tech at my vet’s office & she was well behaved with the vet.
Ruby walks great on a leash connected to her fancy harness, which seems to have been made just for her.
However, Ruby is extremely cat reactive, so I will have to return her to the City of El Paso Animal Shelter soon as I have several cats & it is not safe for her to be in a house with cats. She needs a home (that has NO CATS). Ruby is very athletic & can climb up a cat tower or counter to get a cat, so she definitely needs a very secure yard. It would be great to find her a foster so she doesn’t have to sit at the Shelter.
If you can help, or you know someone who might be able to foster Ruby, please us know!
