The wrinkly-ist of babies!! They are growing so fast now! Now that their fur is coming through they are so soft and velvety 💗 looks like two agouti, two “gingers” and another dilute colour! Looking forward to their eyes opening so it’s easier to determine their colours.

Today we welcomed 6 little beans born to Honey in the early morning. They all look really good with big milk bands. So pleased with Honey for being such a good mum 💗

It’s too early to know for sure but at a quick glance it looks like 2 boys and 4 girls.

Super excited to finally launch the NZFRS!! This has been months in the making and I’m so happy that New Zealand now has an official rat society!

Exciting news! The Registered Rat Breeders have done a big revamp of our website and expanded and improved our club. We’re now an official incorporated society - The NZ Fancy Rat Society - and, while we’re still home to the registered breeders, we have expanded membership to include pet rat owners and everyone interested in rats. We’ll be sharing lots over the next few months, including breeder intros, tips and tricks, health and feeding info, how to’s, and competitions.

If you’d like to join the NZFRS membership is free, signing up is super simple, and we promise to send very few annoying emails. Check out our shiny new website for more info!

On the first of every month we’ll be running a competition. This month’s competition is for all new members - sign up and you’re in to win! Scruffians’ potential future stud Tiberius will pick a name at random and the winner will get a prize pack including a ‘rare’ green sputnik, a cozy winter snuggle sack and hammock set, and some natural willow twig chews.

I am raising a litter on behalf of white rose rattery, their girl Millie had two baby girls a few weeks ago. Since there were only two they won’t be available for adoption. These two girls seem to have inherited their mums lovely calm personality, they are absolute chonks and love to sit and cuddle.

Indigos babies are looking so grown up! If you look closely at the cinnamon and mink girls you can see their silly moult patterns. All these babies have homes lined up so none of them are available💕

Hello friends! Recently I rearranged the rat room and I quite like how it turned out! All the adults live in the fully kitted out rat room and the babies grow up inside to stay warm and get extra cuddles 💕

Hey hey friends! The babies are 17 days old now! They have grown so much and have started leaving the nest to explore the cage, when Indigo allows it haha. Their eyes have opened and they are now at the extra cute stage 😍

Indigos little ones are 4 days old and are starting to get a little bit dandruffy which means their fur should start coming in over the next few days. They are growing so fast, Indigo is a very attentive mum 💗

The babies are 1 day old!!

Unfortunately two babies passed overnight so now there are only 5 :(. It's not uncommon for babies to die in the first day or two (especially in markings line litters with BEW babies)so I'm not super worried about the remaining 5. All have good milk bands and Indigo seems to be a very good mumma, always keeping her nest in tip top shape (all the shavings shoved around the igloo, extra cozy I guess 😅).

At the moment it looks like there are 4 girls and 1 boy, it's a bit hard to tell this early so we will confirm as they get older 💗

Indigo welcomed 8 little babies this morning. Sadly one was still born but the other 7 bubs are looking really good. Indigo got a yummy breakfast and a snuggle safe to keep the babies warm. Keep an eye on the page for updates 💗

Long time no see rat friends! I'm finally back with some exciting news! I am back to breeding after a bit of a break and have just paired two lovely girlies 💗 All things going well with these two pairings I should have babies in the next wee while! Very exciting!

Pair one: Winnies Indigo (Black Berkshire) with White Rose Solosis (Agouti Variberk). The goals for this pairing are markings and hopefully a chance of blaze 😍

Pair two: A Rats Tail Leaf (Agouti Berkshire carrier) with A Rats Tail Goose (Mink irish fluffy). The goals for this pairing are fluffies of all the colours and markings😛

Hi friends!!

Sorry for the long absence! The last few months have been pretty hectic rat wise, unfortunately I lost quite a few ratties and had to end a few lines due to health issues. Although breeding can be very rewarding as you get to watch the little babies grow and help improve the health of New Zealand rats it can be very draining and emotionally exhausting. Especially when you have a bunch of oldies passing away in a short time period.

After taking a few months off breeding I’m now hoping to get back into things 😊 Last night lovely Glitter had five little beans. I can’t wait to watch them grow up! This is a markings line litter so fingers crossed for some cool markings!

I had such a blast at the Wellington Pet Expo! The rats were all super well behaved and got to have heaps of cuddles. It was really lovely to meet so many rat lovers and introduce lots of people to the amazing world of rats!!

I am really looking forward to the Auckland Expo in October 😄
