Today on , we remember the animals who served in wartime, from the pigeons who carried important messages to the horses on the frontlines. Dogs and donkeys also played an important role in war, with dogs helping to find the wounded and donkeys carrying wounded soldiers to field stations so they could be treated.

It is estimated that more than 8 million animals sacrificed their lives in World War I alone. Today we remember these brave animals and their sacrifices ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

Just a reminder to all, we are NO LONGER able to provide companion animal care due to the national Vet shortage which has affected our clinic.
This unfortunately means that for any routine visits along with emergencies you will need to contact another Vet Practice.
We are still providing all your over the counter food, flea products and other accessories, along with helpful advice!

Lest we forget. This Anzac Day, we remember the veterinarians who served in the First and Second World Wars.

The New Zealand Veterinary Corps was established in 1907 and was one of the first to volunteer its services when war broke out in 1914. Veterinarians played an important role in wartime, including treating sick and wounded horses, donkeys, mules and military dogs.

Did I hear you say Taco's!
Taco the pug recently joined the WAGY care programme too, us oldies have been busy this week!

Fun-loving, silly pug, welcome to the Wandering Angels pack ๐ŸŒฎ

The WAGY programme enables elderly dogs the chance to live out the rest of their lives and they come into our care for various reasons. Sometimes owners pass on, can no longer care for their dog, cannot afford their elderly dogs vet care costs etc. Wandering Angels looks after and vet cares these elderly dogs through the WAGY programme. WAGY dogs do not go up for adoption, but get placed in long term foster care homes.

Please donate to our vet bills to help our dogs from all areas of the rescue (Puppies-Oldies):

Facial eczema is a common issue in cattle and sheep, but it can affect goats, deer, alpacas and llamas too. It is caused by sporidesmin, a toxin produced by the spores of the fungus Pithomyces chartarum growing on pasture.

There have been reports of persistently high spore counts in the North Island this month. If you're in an area with high spore counts, be sure to check in with your vet to make sure your facial eczema prevention plan is still effective for your stock.

You can monitor spore counts in your region at labportal.gribbles.co.nz/ #/public/facial-eczema

The last few weeks have been stressful for many, and we understand you may be feeling frustrated, anxious or worried. Although the vast majority of people have been understanding, we have received some reports of clients taking their frustrations out on their vet team.

Remember, your vet team wants the best outcome for your animal! Please be patient so they can provide the care your animal deserves. Vets are human too, and many of them are experiencing their own stress and anxiety from the last few weeks. A little compassion goes a long way! โค

FYI

The flood events impacting Northland, Auckland, Bay of Plenty, the Coromandel and Waikato have been distressing to see, and our thoughts are with everyone affected. Here's some helpful advice if you own animals in these areas:

๐ŸŸก Keep animals out of floodwater and areas that have been contaminated by floodwater. Floodwater can have sewerage in it and make your animals sick.
๐ŸŸก If you need to evacuate, take your pets with you. Ministry for Primary Industries is coordinating the emergency response for displaced animals. You can contact them if you need assistance on 0800 222 200.
๐ŸŸก To request assistance with livestock, lifestyle blocks or feed, contact Federated Farmers on 0800 FARMING (0800 327 646).
๐ŸŸก If your animals come into contact with floodwater, check them for injuries, and clean the animals thoroughly.
๐ŸŸก Clean and disinfect any areas, bedding and containers your animals use that have been contaminated by floodwater before they use them again.

โœ” Three clean calving ropes or chains
โœ” A two-litre container of l**e
โœ” Towels and soap for cleaning hands

โœ” Ear tags or other calf identification system
โœ” Spray paint (red plus one other colour)
โœ” Gloves
โœ” A head torch and spare batteries
โœ” Iodine spray for navels pre-mixed with water
โœ” Key contact numbers, including your vet, on a laminated sheet

Time for a change

A few years ago we were asked to provide an alternative option to animal veterinary solutions for Dargaville by the community. So we did.

We provide solutions that are, simply put, sustainable - sustainable to the pocket, the environment and to the animal. It is also about providing to our community a service they desire with the commitment and attitude to match.

November 2017 saw the birth of Sustainable Vets for the large animal field and now in January, the small animals get their start.

All our products are out to offer solutions that we believe are a great match for our clients. We have brands you know and those you don't but the team will guide you to the best solutions for your loved pet whether they be large or small.
