That is young Misty..... Too intelligent for her own good, she alone has figured how to escape from the run, so she can frolic in the mud. To make matters worse, she enjoys running along the top of the fence, laughing at me while I tell her off.... 😑

In case you needed any more incentives to spend time with your dog 😁
Have a wonderful day ❀️
"This study demonstrated that specific dog activities could activate stronger relaxation, emotional stability, attention, concentration, and creativity by facilitating increased brain activity," Yoo said. "In addition, interactions with dogs could decrease stress and induce positive emotional responses."

In a study of brain activity, walking a poodle made people more relaxed, brushing the dog improved concentration and playing with her had both effects.

"Noooo", says Ghost.
Well, I'm pleased to say, I'm getting there, and these mud bunnies all have baths in their futures.
I am hopeful that with the shortest day in the rear view mirror that there might be an end to the mud at Ardara Drummoore πŸ™„

Thank you to everyone for all the good wishes for my recovery πŸ™
The calls from the veterinary community for the restriction of, and in some cases, the banning of breeding some breeds is getting louder and louder!
Meanwhile in NZ, some breeders continue to breed closely related dogs, including Samoyeds, resulting in litters with high COI's.
Here is an interesting article which addresses the topic of outcrossing, a potential solution for eliminating deleterious alleles from a population.
At Polarmoon we focus on good genetics when planning our breeding programme 😁

So.... I haven't posted for quite some time....I know folks are missing those posts because I have a lot of messages, emails and enquiries to catch up on!
Unfortunately I caught covid again in mid April and it has wrecked the best part of the last 6 weeks for me 😭. Luckily I wasn't hospitalised this time....
I haven't been short of company and here's a selection of the visitors to the sick room 😁
I promise to catch up all my correspondence over the next 2 weeks so please be patient!

This is an awesome wee study which should be sending alarm bells ringing right across the purebred dog world. Combining my first love of cell biology with my latest love, genetics: Here is proof that genomic damage caused by inbreeding is leading to disease and shortened lifespans in purebred dogs.
Warning: There is no need to throw the baby out with the bathwater! We have a TOOL. The Coefficient of Inbreeding should be the most important metric to evaluate before you buy a purebred dog. If the Breeder doesn't know what this is..... RUN FOR THE HILLS!

Inbreeding is a common phenomenon in small, fragmented or isolated populations, typical conditions of many threatened species. In the present paper, we used a new non-invasive approach based on the buccal micronucleus assay to evaluate the possible relationships between inbreeding and genomic damage...

Wow, an extremely busy year is keeping me on my toes.... The puppies have been introduced to my 'Dog of the Day' scheme, and it's Kaydees turn - jobs with Mum plus a car ride and an ice cream and now she is on my bed fighting a much needed nap 😁

It is almost 25 years ago, that I lost one of the loves of my life. His name was Kaidar, an ex breeding dog that the kennel no longer wanted (Don't get me started 😑). He was supposed to be my husbands dog, but he chose me ❀️. I had 6 wonderful years with him and I miss him every day πŸ’”
TODAY A NEW STORY BEGINS..... MORE TO COME.....

13/02/2024

Stunning morning at Ardara Drummoore today, and we can finally announce that we are keeping both of these beauties 😁
With a 6 generation Coefficient of Inbreeding of 0.39% and an Ancestor Loss Coefficient of 96.77%, we would quite literally be mad not to keep them. AND that doesn't include the fact that we are totally in love with both ❀️❀️❀️
AND if that wasn't enough news for one day, there's more. Something exciting is coming this way on Friday.... Stay tuned for puppy overload πŸŽ‰πŸ’žπŸ˜

It's hard work been part of the Polarmoon pack πŸ˜‰ .... Poppy has had a tough day keeping the pack in line, wrangling a couple of pups, and digging holes in the run 😠
Still nothing a few hours zzzzz on Mum's bed won't fix ❀️
STAY TUNED... Big News to Follow ❀️❀️❀️

The most important tool in breeding is COI and promoting genetic diversity!
The most important factor affecting your dogs health that a Breeder can control is COI....

RIP Mina AKA Polarmoon Mantis

The loss of a beloved fur baby is never easy, no matter how they died or their age. I am kind of old, and have lost soooo many over the years, and I still have days when I am overcome with sadness, looking for that little face, I will never see again. For me, at Polarmoon, this has especially been a time of reflection on friends lost, as we seek to find new loves to welcome into our pack.

Please share your sympathies with Vanessa as she mourns the passing of our beloved Mina. We will hold both of you forever in our hearts. Love, Danna ###

Obituary for Mina: Mina was a constant source of joy and endless happiness for us. Despite her size, she had a huge personality and always made us smile with her larger-than-life attitude. Mina came at a time that I wouldn’t have known would be so important, having her as my only friend during the lockdowns of years past cemented her very quickly as my best friend. At a time where I had no one else, she was there for me.
The house was never quiet with Mina, whether she was joining the neighbour-hood kids with her barks or telling us about her day with her woo’s, Mina never failed to brighten our day.
She loved to pose for the camera, waving back at you with that goofy Sammy smile we all love. She loved to zoom with her other four-legged friends, whether it be the other pups on her walks or our cats who were maybe not as pleased to be there.
We love and miss Mina so much, the silence in the house is deafening without our fluffy friend here.
Thank you for bringing us so much happiness over the years, you were, are, and always will be my best friend.
