Did you know that Vet Services offer Canine Rehabilitation Services? 🐶

Veterinary rehabilitation uses targeted therapies which are complementary to conventional veterinary medicine. We currently offer acupuncture, shock wave therapy and manual therapy to help improve a pet’s mobility, reduce inflammation, provide pain relief and promote faster healing and repair.

Our friendly and experienced rehabilitation veterinarian, Renate is based in our Napier clinic twice a week and offers individualised programs to help get your pets back on all four paws again.

Head to our website or give us a call if you would like to find out more about how rehabilitation therapies could help your pet.

Exciting news - Vet Services are partnering with Kode Veterinary Sciences Ltd to assist with their upcoming trials for Kv9.

Kv9 is a autologous cancer vaccine in development that uses an animals own immune system to help treat their cancer. The initial trial involves the collection of a small amount of blood from cats and dogs, with and without cancer, and testing this in a laboratory. This testing will have no negative or positive impacts for your pet. If your pet is already receiving a blood test, your veterinarian may give you the option to contribute to this trial.

If you have any further questions in regard to this trial feel free to contact [email protected] or [email protected]

⚠️ Important reminder to ensure your pets parasite treatments are up to date!⚠️

🦠 Babesia Gibsoni in NZ 🦠
You may have seen in the media a micro-organism, Babesia Gibsoni was found in a dog in Canterbury. The affected dog was euthanised at its owner's request because it was extremely unwell.

There are currently no detected cases in the North Island, but this is a firm reminder all pet owners should ensure their cats and dogs are up to date on flea, tick and worming medication! 🪳🦟🐛

What is Babesia Gibsoni?🔬
Babesia gibsoni is a tick-borne parasite that mainly affects dogs. It is widespread around the rest of the world, including Australia.

How is it spread? 🦠
Along with ticks, the parasite can also be spread through dog bites, blood transfusion, and through the placenta from an infected mother to her pups

There are several approaches to treatment, although they do not completely eliminate the parasite. This means dogs may remain carriers once infected.

How did B. gibsoni get into New Zealand? 🌏
Biosecurity New Zealand has robust measures in place to prevent B. gibsoni coming into New Zealand. We do not currently know how this dog became infected or how widespread B. gibsoni is in the dog population.

Please get in touch to check if your pets parasite treatments are up to date.

🐰🐣 EASTER HAZARDS FOR YOUR PETS 🐣🐰

Easter can be a busy time for our clinics. Egg hunts, family gatherings and planting the autumn vegetable garden are all activities with dangerous temptations for our pets which can lead to an emergency trip to the vet!

Here’s a few classic Easter treats that can be very harmful for your pets and should therefore be avoided:

🍫Chocolate contains caffeine and a chemical called theobromine – both are dangerous to cats and dogs.

🍇 Hot cross buns contain sultanas and raisins. Sultanas, raisins, and grapes can cause significant damage to kidneys which may be irreversible.

🦴🍗 Cooked bones can cause a multitude of problems which lead to a trip to the vet (constipation, diarrhoea, vomiting, choking, foreign body obstructions, broken teeth, and infections).

🐌🌿 Easter is a popular weekend for autumn gardening. Keep in mind that dogs will seek out slug and rat baits so please be careful when using it on your property and lock unused boxes away.

We will have emergency care available 24/7 over the long weekend and are only a phone call away if you need urgent assistance. 06 843 5308

During her studies Holly completed some work experience with Vet Services and loved it! She took a full time position with the Hastings Clinic in 2014 and transferred to help open our new Napier branch in 2016.

Holly is an incredibly caring and experienced member of our nursing team. She enjoys all areas of companion animal medicine and leads our Napier puppy pre-school classes.

Thanks for all of your hard work and dedication Holly - we are so very lucky to have you and look forward to making many more memories with you! 👏👏
