♥️🐾 A tribute to Starchie 🐾♥️
🌈2008/2009-28th July, 2023🌈
A mischievous black and white kitty made his debut in 2011.
He was surrendered by one of our clients after he had turned up at her house.
She advertised him as lost but nobody came forward to claim him.
He was a neutered male, roughy 2 to 3 years old 🐈⬛
He could not stay with her as he kept beating up her cats, spraying inside and being a nuisance 😬His fate at the time was euthanasia.
The team at the time including Donna and Shane decided to give him a second chance at life and make him their clinic cat, that is when he became Mr Moustachio. 🥸
In 2013 he went missing for a week and Donna searched high and low for him, she finally found him under the house next to the clinic (now known as Robert Currie’s Pink Palace). Donna had to remove a board from the side of the house and crawl under to get him out, he scratched and bit her but she was determined to get her mate- once out the team discovered he had been hit by a car and suffered a fractured pelvis ❤️🩹. He hated Donna for months afterwards for saving him and he had plenty of time to plot his revenge with eight weeks cage rest to mend and stabilise his pelvis and avoid surgery 😅
Mr Moustachio was an absolute character over the years he beat up many of dogs coming into the clinic- he would sit behind the dog biscuits on the shelves and ambush them, he would spray cats and their cat cages. 🫣🤭
He had self appointed himself to king cat of the town 👑🐱
He had multiple abscesses and wounds over the years from his King battles with intruder kitties on his territory and he would also roam the surrounds including the community house where he’d join them when they had lunch meetings 🤣
He was also a vital member of the team, Shane had many long nights on call in the clinic looking after patients and Stachie was always there as moral support and company. He was always there for support and a cuddle with his team and the community in times of great stress and sorrow, his cuddles and smooches held such great healing properties!
In his later years he stayed closer to home, most days he would sit on the front desk and dribble over the computers and our clients but he would still visit his dear friend Robert Currie daily, have a nap at the church and give us all immense stress by running in front of cars to his beloved roundabout, he never learnt his lesson 🤦♀️
Old age was kind for so long and allowed us 15 beautiful years with him but eventually it became apparent that he was very unwell and uncomfortable. The team made the most heartbreaking decision to let him leave with dignity and relieve him of his suffering.
He drifted off peacefully, eating chicken in his favourite spot by the window surrounded by many ( but not all- we don’t have a room big enough 🥰) of the people he loved the most. We will all sorely miss him.
Fly high, rest easy and we will see you again at The Rainbow Bridge 🌈
Here are some words from some of the team he touched the hearts of in his 15 years of service to the Raglan Clinic.
Donna: He would meet who ever was first to work in the morning and demand his breakfast after he had sneaked out the night before ..you couldn't leave your handbag or anything like that from home lying around or he’d smell your cats on it and spray all over it ..lost a really good expensive leather handbag and a 70s cane bag which I really loved notched those ones up to him the old bu**er..work isn’t the same now you have gone.
Shane: He's going to leave a big hole. I always especially appreciated him being there when I was checking on hospitalized patients during the night. Sometimes if patients weren't doing well those nocturnal visits could be very difficult, and Stachi was always a source of comfort. Although I'm not sure how many dog owners I've had to apologize to over the years after Stachi attacked their pets in the waiting room! He never had an issue with Tua or Meg though, which was a relief.
Sam: We will miss you Starchie , I didn't know you long but loved walking in every morning I'm in Raglan to your affectionate meow.
Atraides: Starchie my lunch buddy. Even though my lunch wasn't exactly good for you and everyone would find your vomit of my lunch the next day I would still give you a piece of my lunch every day. You crossed the rainbow with a full belly of smoked chicken. Lunch time will be lonely without you but I'm glad your eating whatever your stomach desires
Debs: Dear Starchie where do I start 😢 well being able to unlock the door first thing on a morning without your impatient greeting of wanting your breakfast sharply which then followed our 10 min conversation consisting of me asking you to be patient, whilst I get ready to open up and you telling me in no uncertain terms I need to hurry up! Laying on my keyboard wasn't going to make that happen
Your constant companionship throughout the day if it wasn't opening or closing the the door for your arrival or departure what ever was your whim at the time.
Me trying to eat my lunch especially anything originating from the water quicker than you could, not conductive to good gut health 😂
However the best would be the contentment of you just laying in my paper recycling lid at the side of my screen,, happy for the attention this brought purring away
Bless you Starchie you are so sadly missed and my days at work especially the start will never sadly be the same again, love & miss you 🐈⬛💖💔
Hannah: Starchy, the vet clinic cat with a dashing moustache, always made my day brighter with his sweet morning greetings. I'll never forget how he strolled across my keyboard, demanding attention or his odd morning surprise. He brought so much joy to a work day Rest easy, Starchy. You will be forever missed. 🐾❤️
Taryn: I forever have a scar on my face because of you, you little bu**er 🤣 you don’t know how much I treasure that scar now 🥺 Love you boy ♥️
Sarah: Mr Mustachio was always there to greet people and loved a pat on days he decided he wanted one. I will miss his little meow in the mornings and hope he has his own little roundabout in heaven.
Tracy: Oh Stachie from the elation of you greeting staff as we pull into the car park outside the church, to our horror as you strut across the road and make cars stop to allow you pass, to the laughter as you hide amongst the food bags to stalk any poor unsuspecting dog, you are a one in a lifetime cat, definitely one who lived those 9 lives to the full. You will be missed greatly by staff & clients. RIP you legend
Shannon: Mr moustachios, It has been airy the past few weeks with out you. You have works by my side for the past 6 years things just won’t be the same with out you! I’ll miss you meeting me at my car in the mornings , dribbling on my paper work while hassling me for pats while I’m trying to work.
You have seen many of us come and go but I’m sure you touched all of our harts
Rest easy old boy you you lived a full happy life and I’m so happy I got to be a small part of it.
Georgie: The cheekiest member of the anexa raglan staff, always on hand to to boop the nose of a dog or wind up the resident kittens! He will be dearly missed by everyone but his cheeky presence will be remembered! Xx
Iain: Stachie was a great cat who ensured I kept the office tidy by pi***ng on anything remotely important near the floor 🤣
