Pretty crap day to do the last of the TB Testing today with the young bulls at Waitui. But we survived lol.
Most of the ewes also decided that today would be a great day to give birth, so with alot of help from Brooke we managed to move them out of the river paddock - 1 lamb had other ideas though and thought he would escape into the Manganui River, without a thought Brooke jumped in to grab the little bu**er

Just feeding my calves then I will be on my way to The One Stop Bull Shop, Bull Sale Day!
The great Croydon Crew are all up, making progress on creating a great day today.
Heather, Michael, Nana & Nicole are up starting the food Prep and all my awesome kids are out there on their bikes & 4wds starting the Great Croydon Cattle Drive bringing the bulls to the yard. I cant thank these young people enough, they do so much (and mostly dont complain) to make this Sale happen so successfully- the work has been ongoing since June and Im so appreciative of them all ❤️ as is Nana & Poppa.

Facts for today …. The Average Bull produces enough semen to produce 400 straws of AB in one shot.

If you want the best Whitehead calves (and they are still the most easily sold for the most consistent money) the cheapest and most reliable way is to run a good Hereford Bull - if your cows are cycling the bulls dont miss much !

Just to prove we arnt just about Bulls - This is one of the other crazy things we do! On Brenda & Pete’s Dairy Farm on Waitara Road, we provide Calves & Lambs for the Local Primary Schools Pets Days - Huirangi, Lepperton, Tikorangi & Egmont Village Schools as well as some of our older Ex school kids take a team to the Stratford A&P show in November as well.
This year we are having abit of a quiet year we only have 19 Calves & 13 lambs (plus the lambs that have gone to live temporarily with there school kids) but its still pretty busy here about 3 in the afternoon

The kids love - and we do too

Still hoping that one will come back to be our Relief milker lol 😜 😜

All you people with flash collars might be after these to help get your cows cycling - and for the rest of us - they are brilliant for heat detection, a because they were raised in my calf shed they have a lovely temperament

I tried getting photos of the Red Devons (Lots 217-223 in the Sale) they were playing a different game to what i wanted them to do! They were too busy enjoying this cracking weather we have been having to be bothered standing to take photos - great easy calving bulls

This is the original Penny - a pet jersey cow that mum and dad had raised from a calf, and Im presuming since we lived down a long driveway (doesn’t seem as long now that Im a adult!) was where the Stud Prefix “Pennylane” came from
