Kaakano Ridge has a new resident.

Meet Maya, 25, who will blossom from track life and with friends, forage (and no grass!) and movement.

She’s a sweetie and Tommi has assured her that she’s very welcome but will not be the boss. 😂

A lovely outing was had by all, the first in a while. 💯

The on and off to kick 💩off the track, which is used by the public, a bit challenging for these older bones though.

But still so much fun for us both. 😊

If there’s one thing that track life has given me it’s peace of mind.

Yes I still wish every day that my girl could safely wile away her days and nights in the paddock.

But with a weather pattern that feels like we’ve been in Spring since forever, there’s no way she’d survive on the constantly growing lush grass. Cresty neck, fat deposits, obesity, sore feet and laminitis would follow. And that is not happening on my watch.

If you’re looking for a safe, soft landing for your bestie where the daily diet is safe horse friendly hay then PM me, I have limited space available. 🦄

If you follow this page you’ll know that Sienna wintered here last year while her rider, Emma, had her twin girls.

Emma and her team of horses are fully back into competition and having a great season.

I bred Sienna and she was born here. I continue to own her and Emma is her pilot. They’re a great partnership and I’m very lucky to have this calibre of horsewoman taking care of her.

This is them in action today over 1.25m. They finished fourth and also took second in the 1.20m yesterday.

I am totally living vicariously through Emma and freely admit it. 😆

Once a horsey girl, always a horsey girl. 😊

Thank you son 😘 for making this for your full time career/full time trackie/busy as mother who hates the mere thought of soaked wasted hay. 😩

This pony’s feet are a very clear example of the difference diet makes to inflammation.

She was being managed on “almost no grass”, in a grazed out area - and she was constantly inflamed, with acute laminitic events during grass flushes. See the pink tinge to the hoof wall, the event lines, major red event line, and laminar wedge.

Six months after being moved to a fully surfaced living area, with no access to any grass, just hay. We have tight, straight, consistent hoof growth, with no bruising. But best of all, this is one happy (and sassy!) free moving pony.

This is why I am so strict about grass when managing laminitic or metabolic equine’s. I know 100% grass free is challenging, but it is the key in managing the health and comfort of these equine’s.

Quite often during the winter months I come to the conclusion that yep, I am nuts. 🤪

But really, how else would I spend my time?

Comfy sofa, snuggly pj’s, Netflix and a cuppa … so overrated. 😆

The improvement is staggering. 😲

The horses don’t generally seek out the shelter in winter but I do love it when I find them in there, happily sharing. 😊

It’s so important to include a resting place on the track with a soft surface for lying down.

The sandpit gets plenty of use, day and night. 😴

Early mornings on the track are so peaceful and quiet. A time for sharing. 😊
