- Progesterone testing is used to determine when a female dog ovulates and thus when to breed. It also helps in determining when pregnant dogs should have elective C-sections and in detecting reproductive disorders such as split heats, delayed puberty, silent estrus or hypoiluteidism.

A pyometra, sometimes called a “pyo”, is an infection inside the uterus (womb). Any unneutered (entire) female cat is at risk of developing a pyometra, especially if they are over six years old.

Pyometra is a potentially life-threatening condition. However, the prognosis for survival is good with early treatment (92% survival rates). The prognosis is poorer if the uterus has ruptured, with 30-50% of cats not surviving.
