This puppy is born with a CLEFT LIP. ✓CLEFT LIP is a birth defect that occur when a puppy's lip or mouth do not form properly during pregnancy. ✓CAUSES Genetic is the main cause of this problem,but nutritional deficiencies,virus,and poison that affect the mother during pregnancy also increased the risk of cleft lip.There is also evidence that excess doses of vitamin A may increase the risk of this condition ✓TREATMENT The only effective treatment for cleft is surgical closure.if possible,the puppy should be supported by feeding with a tube until 3-4months of age to allow the opening to grow smaller and the oral cavity larger. ✓PREVENTION Because of the likely genetic involvement in this condition, affected dogs should not be used for breeding.
