🐾 HEALTH UPDATES 🐾

💜YUNA - Yuna on her third vet visit has officially been cleared of sarcoptic mange and received her third deworming shot. Her next scheduled visit will be for her vaccinations.
Rescued 11/12/24 - https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=974065844758816&id=100064662280821&__n=K

💜GLINDA - Glinda was dewormed a week ago but still had persistent diarrhea. A 3-way test was conducted for Giardia, Feline Coronavirus, and Feline Panleukopenia, and all results came back negative. However, a microscopic examination revealed that she is positive for Cystoisospora felis, a parasite causing significant intestinal issues. She has been started on medication, and her brother Elphaba will also need to be treated as a precaution given the likelihood of shared exposure.

💜SUN, MOON, STAR - Star, Moon, and Sun have been undergoing treatment for mange, and we’re thrilled to share that they have officially been cleared of it! All three received their core vaccines and anti-rabies shots and will have to go back to the vet after two weeks to complete their vaccinations and be given another mange treatment to prevent reinfection. Despite their previous skin conditions, the vet has given them a clean bill of health!

Thank you so much to the first batch of donors who supported our Christmas Fundraising!
🐾💜🐾💜🐾💜🐾💜🐾🐾💜🐾💜

Every year, it has been our tradition to decorate our Christmas tree and sanctuary, spreading the joy and warmth of the holiday season.🎄

This holiday season, we're decorating our Christmas tree with Angpaws 🐾—our unique twist on the traditional angpao🧧, symbolizing good fortune and blessings.

Your donation will not only help us fill our tree with love and luck but also directly support the rescued animals - dogs, cats, farm animals - who call our sanctuary home. Every Angpaw is a symbol of generosity, and every name on the Angpaw hanging on the tree represents a heart that cares. Let’s make this holiday season extra special—one Angpaw 🐾, one blessing at a time. 🙏

🎄 How to Participate:

1. Donate a minimum of ₱188 or more to sponsor an Angpaw, specially designed just for you.

2. Share up to two names you’d like us to write on your Angpaw—your name, a loved one’s name, or your pet’s name.

3. Each week, we will post updates showcasing the sponsored Angpaws.

📩 How to Submit:
Please send proof of your donation along with the names via our Facebook or Instagram Messenger, or email us at [email protected].

We are deeply moved by the generosity of RS Pleyto and Cait de Sotto, who chose to celebrate their union in the most meaningful way—by sharing their love with the rescued animals at our sanctuary.

Instead of traditional wedding souvenirs, they made a heartfelt donation that helps us continue providing care, shelter, and nourishment to hundreds of rescued dogs, cats, and farm animals who call our sanctuary home.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for making the animals a part of your special day.

Congratulations and best wishes on your wedding! May your life together be as beautiful and full of love as the impact you’ve made on the lives of these animals. 🐾💞

It's beginning to look at lot like Christmas ... 🎶🎄

This holiday season, let’s remember: animals are not toys, trends, or temporary surprises. They are living beings who require love, time, and commitment for their entire lives.

Pets should never be treated as gifts to be opened on Christmas morning and forgotten by New Year’s. While giving a pet may seem heartwarming, it often leads to heartbreak when the recipient isn’t prepared for the responsibility. Tragically, countless dogs and cats are abandoned after the holidays because they were given without proper consideration for their long-term needs.

Before adding a furry friend to your family or thinking of giving someone a pet, it’s essential to ensure that everyone is fully ready and committed to the lifelong care of an animal. Pets deserve more than holiday attention—they need a lifetime of love and care.

You can also consider other meaningful ways to spread joy:
🎁 Donate to an animal shelter in someone’s name.
🎁 Sponsor the care of a rescue animal.
🎁 Gift animal-themed items that promote awareness and compassion.

Let’s make this Christmas about kindness and thoughtful choices. If you’re ready to welcome a pet into your life, make it a well-planned, lifelong decision.

This season, give responsibly. Give love, not pets.

Irresponsible Pet Ownership: A Heartbreaking Reality 😔

When we think of abandoned, neglected or strays, what often comes to mind are Aspins and Puspins. But the truth is, even purebreds fall victim to irresponsible pet ownership, neglect, abuse and cruelty. The reality is that many are purchased for their appearance or bred for profit, only to be discarded when they get old, sick, or can no longer produce litters.

This heartbreaking cycle stems from viewing animals as commodities rather than as living beings deserving of care and respect. Dogs and Cats, regardless of their breed, are loyal companions who rely on us for their well-being. Yet, too often, they’re abandoned like yesterday’s trend when they become inconvenient.

Owning a pet is a lifetime commitment. It’s not just about the cute puppy or kitten stage or the prestige of owning a purebred. It’s about ensuring they are loved and cared for through sickness and in health, for all their years.

Let’s break this cycle of neglect. Educate others about responsible pet ownership, advocate for adoption, and remind people that pets are family, not disposable objects. Every animal deserves compassion, regardless of their breed or age.

End the neglect. Choose kindness. Choose responsibility!

We are incredibly grateful for your support through our Fifty Pesos Fundraiser. 😘 Thanks to your generous contributions, we've been able to purchase two sacks of dog food yesterday, another 2 sacks today, half a sack of cat food, and half a sack of feed for our farm animals.

With the remaining 2,000 pesos for our food pantry, we can buy another sack of dog food for tomorrow’s feeding. However, we need two sacks of dog food per day to meet the needs of all our rescued dogs.

Each sack of dog food costs 1,510 pesos. If you're able to sponsor a sack of dog food for the next few days, it would greatly help ease our operational expenses and ensure we continue providing for all the animals in our care. Thank you for your continued kindness and support! 💜

We occasionally receive suggestions to ask for table scraps from food establishments to feed our rescued dogs. While we understand that this comes from a place of good intentions, we kindly want to explain why this isn’t a suitable option for our rescues, or any other dog for that matter.

Many of our rescued dogs come to us malnourished and sick. They came from a life of eating garbage. To continue feeding them table scraps or leftovers—often high in salt, oil, spices and condiments toxic to dogs—can do more harm than good. While it might seem like this approach could reduce food expenses, it could lead to severe digestive issues or other health problems, resulting in significant medical expenses.

Our priority is to ensure the well-being of every animal in our care by providing them with food specifically for them, not just any food that happens to be available. Like any beloved companion, these animals deserve proper food to heal, grow stronger, and live comfortably.

Thank you for understanding and helping us give these helpless rescued dogs the care they truly deserve.

Good morning! 😺 Start your day with a smile and a grateful heart! Here’s to a day full of love, laughter, and little victories. 💜

When we rescued Mima, she was pregnant. While some might choose to terminate pregnancies and label the kittens as 'unwanted,' Mima’s adorable kittens are a beautiful reminder of why we embrace a no-kill philosophy. We value and protect life. Just look at them — so innocent, so precious. 😻

* Once the kittens are weaned, Mima will be spayed.

The Reality of Why We Need to Responsibly Manage Our Rescue Operations and Why We Need Your Support. 🐾

Rescuing isn’t as simple as taking in an animal and bringing them to the sanctuary, as many might believe. Rescuing and sheltering these animals is a constant financial struggle, requiring immense resources and unwavering dedication.

🟣 At the Time of Rescue:
From the moment we rescue an animal, the expenses start piling up:

Transportation: Many rescues come from far-flung areas requiring long trips. In our more than a decade of rescuing, we have never asked for donations to cover transportation costs.

Immediate Medical Care: Many rescues require urgent veterinary attention. Most of the time, they need to be confined for weeks in a clinic, resulting in substantial medical bills that donations alone cannot fully cover.

Let’s take, for example, Jimin, Moose, Pie and Mama Pia and kittens — Four of our most recent rescues who required confinement, extended and ongoing medical treatments:

Jimin:
Total bill: ₱14,735
Donations received: ₱8,000
Balance paid out of pocket: ₱6,735

Moose:
Total bill: ₱7,800
Donations received: ₱2,500
Balance paid out of pocket: ₱5,300

Pie:
Total bill: ₱5,600
Donations received: ₱1,000
Balance paid out of pocket: ₱4,600

Mama Pia, Princess Poppy, Pia:
Total bill: ₱15,000
Donations received: ₱1,000
Balance paid out of pocket:
₱14,000

These are just a few examples of the expenses we cover out of our own pockets at the time of rescue.

🟣 Long-Term Residents' Medical Care:
Rescues who have been in the sanctuary for years also get sick and require confinement. However, because they are no longer "new rescues," it’s rare for us to receive donations for their treatments.

Take Clark and Magic, for example, who have been with us since 2020 and recently needed confinement. Posted for fundraising but no donations received:

Clark:
Total vet bill: ₱12,235
Donations received: ₱0
Still outstanding (to be paid out of pocket): ₱12,235

Magic:
Total vet bill: ₱9,520
Donations received: ₱0
Still outstanding (to be paid out of pocket): ₱9,520

These are just two examples of the medical expenses of our long term rescues that we cover out of our own pockets.

🟣 Continued Health Care:
Caring for our rescues goes beyond initial treatments. Regular health care expenses include:

- Initial and Annual Vaccinations: Core vaccines and anti-rabies vaccines (ARV)
- Spay and Neuter Procedures
- Deworming and Anti-Parasitic Treatments

🟣 Veterinary Care for Rescued Farm Animals:
The veterinary care for our rescued farm animals, including deworming, anti-parasitic treatments, and other medical needs, costs approximately ₱5,000 per session. These expenses are not fundraised and are fully paid out of pocket.

🟣 Ongoing Feeding Costs:
Feeding hundreds of animals is one of the biggest challenges we face daily. On average, we spend around ₱35,000 weekly on basic food alone—this does not include the cost of special needs or prescription diets.

For example, during last week’s Fifty Pesos Friday fundraiser to replenish our food pantry:

Total Donations Received: ₱5,500

Still Needed to Cover the Week's Feeding Costs: ₱25,000

🟣 Operational Expenses:
In addition to direct animal care and medical expenses, we also face ongoing operational costs that we do not fundraise for and must cover out of pocket, including:

- Electricity
- Water
- Staff Caregivers' Compensation
- Maintenance
- Miscellaneous Expenses

We are a no-kill animal sanctuary, which means that as long as these animals remain under our care, we are committed to providing them with a lifetime of food, shelter, and healthcare.

We are just ordinary private individuals with modest means who take on all these financial challenges. We do not receive any funding from agencies and rely solely on our personal resources and donations from our kind-hearted supporters. While these funds often fall short, we responsibly find ways to cover all the needs of the animals in our care.

🟣How can you help:

While we cover many other expenses out of pocket, the ongoing cost of food is our biggest financial challenge, as it’s a constant and never-ending need. As previously mentioned, we spend roughly ₱35,000 a week on food alone.

Your donation of any amount ensures that our rescues have enough to eat. Please consider supporting our ongoing food expenses to help us keep our rescued animals well-fed and healthy.

Thank you for your continued understanding, support, and for being a vital part of our mission to provide a better life for these animals. 💜

We brought Mima to the vet for a check-up today. Mima was rescued on October 17 while pregnant and gave birth to four kittens on October 30. While she’s still nursing her kittens, she’s been experiencing loose bowel movements for the past couple of days.

A fecalysis revealed a bacterial infection in her gut. She has been prescribed medication and will need to be on a gastrointestinal prescription diet. She remains active though and has a good appetite.

We’re hopeful that Mima will recover soon and continue being the loving mama to her kittens. 💜
