Bold Stripes!

Bold Striped are one of my favorite projects! I often see Bold Stripes misidentified or confused with Reverse Stripeβ¦ so letβs talk about them!
Bold Stripes: Two lateral stripes down the sides of their body. These stripes are visibly Bold from hatch & their stripes will remain into adulthood. True Bold Striped geckos will not fade much or βHypo outβ as an adult. Bold Striped markings start from their neck, to the base of their tail. Sometimes the striping may continue throughout their tail, but this is not a defining feature for the morph. Bold Stripes are a polygenic phenotype, meaning this morph/trait is reproduced & enhanced through line breeding, but Bold Striped is not genetic in itself! There are, however, a few Breeders with their own lines of Bold Striped geckos, but unless you are working with those specific lines, you cannot attach those names to your Bold Stripes!
Many are confused about what differences identify a Reverse Stripe vs a Bold Stripe, so just note that the indicators of Stripes are based on their non-background pattern! Leopard gecko hatchlings all have a background color (depending on specific genetics, Blizzard/MP, etcβ¦ excluded here), which is typically a shade of yellow, unless they are Snow, then their background is white/cream at hatch. The pattern coloration is generally black, unless they are albino, in which case their pattern will be pink~ish at hatch is breaking apart their background. For this specific topic, βpatternβ is referring to Stripes. Do keep in mind that without Bold Striped lineage, majority of hatchlings starting out striped will likely fade with development. I often see folks posting their hatchlings with some striping & theyβll refer to them as Bold Stripes, typically after the first several weeks the stripes already faded, yet they continue to call them βBold Stripeβ which is inaccurate! On occasion, a striped hatchling from non-striped parents may hold its stripes into adulthood, so if that is something you are wanting to replicate, I would definitely use it to kick off your project or pair it to a Bold Striped.
