The 9th day Chinese New Year is a special date for Hokkien people to “拜天公”（Bai Tian Kong） which literally means “praying the Heaven God”.

It is also the birthday of the Jade Emperor.

Although these prayers are traditionally performed only by Hokkiens but more and more non-Hokkien people have begun to join in to pray for a good year ahead.
