UPDATE: The new shop looks great but things are running behind. The contractors need a few more days so we will not open on Thursday June 1st. We will officially open on Sat June 3rd. Stop in to see the shop and for 1/2 price self serves and free fun stuff! Sorry for the delay.

Wash Wag will be MOVING to a new location!! Don’t worry…We are moving just down the street, less than 0.10 mile away. We will be moving to:

1580 Akron Peninsula Rd
Akron, Ohio 44313

This is across the street and just north of our current location. We will be in the same building as Zahand’s Martial Arts, just north of the Subway/Michaels AM Plaza. We plan to open in this new location on Thursday June 1. Join us that weekend to check out the newly remodeled location. We will have a beautiful new location, the best staff we’ve ever had at our shop, bath specials and free stuff to give away! See you at the new Wash Wag soon!!!

Thank you to all of our amazing customers!! There are so many mean and nasty people these days that the support from our clients is amazing. We love all the dogs and cats that come to our shop. People will always hate and leave terrible comments but we try to move on and do the best we can everyday. We removed the last post because people, that have no idea of the situation, feel they know better and can comment and leave 1-star reviews without ever using our services. We thank every single customer that trusts us to take care of their family like we would our own. I'm sure people will comment on this post and that's ok because we accept that people have there own opinions. If only people would get the whole situation before judging...that would be a much nicer world. Thank you.

RIP Winnine Wilson. We have known Winnie for 11 years at Wash Wag. Unfortunately our babies don’t live long enough. She had a great family that loved her and she had her family here that loved her too. Wish we could find a pic of her smiling at us!!

IN-PERSON APPLICATIONS AND INTERVIEWS ONLY. PLEASE DO NOT APPLY ON FB. STOP IN THE SHOP TO APPLY. Wash Wag is a premier Dog Grooming Salon in Akron's Merriman Valley. We provide grooming services for dogs and cats, as well as offer a Self-Serve Dogwash, and a small retail area.

We are currently in need of a Dog Bather. Very physical job, must be able to lift 50 lbs. Large and small dogs, position involves bending, lifting, reaching, shampooing, blow drying and general cleaning. Assist with phones, booking appointments, assist clients checking in/out or with self serve and retail. Very busy environment, appreciate a self starter that knows how to keep busy and multi-task. You must be willing to learn our bathing techniques and procedures. Must have reliable transportation.

**This job is not rainbows and playing with puppies all day. You will be on your feet and working with all types of dog personalities. It is hard work so do not apply if you do not want to work hard. **

We are currently hiring part or full time. Hourly rate flexible for the right person or an experienced bather. Flexible schedule. Hourly pay + tips + bonuses for exceptional work.

Today’s date, exactly one year ago, Barry was rescued by Maggie's Mission and transferred to our care. He was one of four dogs in terrible shape being evicted that day.
He allowed an amateur to trim him to get rid of the YUCK! 🥴 The next day was spa day at Wash Wag. We lost Barry on August 1st to a cancer of the mouth, Canine Acanthomatous Ameloblastoma. He was diagnosed right after Christmas last year. 😭

🚨ISO FOSTER HOME!🚨 Meet Pearl. She was given that name today by the loving volunteer who’s fostering her for the week in Athens, where she was surrendered by her owner on Monday. They would love to transport her to us this Sunday. But we need a foster home! She’s a senior, dog friendly, and needs some surgeries which ART will pay for. We also provide food and anything else she needs, like services at Wash Wag. 🥰 Please send us a message with your email address ASAP if you’re interested in fostering Pearl and we’ll send you our adoption/foster application!

He’s so sweet!!

Barry, 9, spent the better part of the day lounging in the sun, trying to forget about his cancer. Barry has Canine Acanthomatous Ameloblastoma, a non spreading tumor in his lower jaw. We’re managing his pain medication and his foster mom is giving him lots of extra snuggles.

Last summer we triaged his rescue with our friends at Maggie's Mission. He and his siblings were being escorted off the property by the sheriff due to a foreclosure. He was in awful shape but quickly cleaned up by our friends and the pros at Wash Wag. We’re sad that he’s sick but so honored to be his forever family.

His quality of life is still on pointe, he’s on pain management medications, and these days you’re most likely to find him outside soaking up some sunshine! Barry’s cancer, Canine Acanthomatous Ameloblastoma, hasn’t caused him any trouble eating and he still steals bully sticks from his foster siblings when he’s able. We love this guy and are hopeful he has plenty of time to enjoy the sunshine! 💛➡️🐾

We hope you’re enjoying the sunshine and violets in NE Ohio today like Cedric! 💜🌞 Cedric has been with us two full weeks now.

Cedric loves walks. He loves naps more. 💤💤
He is an old man who likely once had impeccable manners but now needs to be supervised in order to prevent accidents. Once he starts getting clingy, circling slowly, or howling if he can’t find you, it’s time to hustle him outside. 😅 He will also trot off independently without fear, and he’s fast. 😳
Cedric was an unclaimed stray at our local pound, hard of hearing, and can not hear cars approaching. He needs a family to protect him during whatever time he’s got.

When Cedric was found he wasn’t properly groomed and very stinky but Wash Wag made him whole again. Cedric was a handful but they knew just what to do. He is going to require professional grooming for the rest of his life.

We’re currently treating Cedric for heart worm, thankfully X-rays showed it wasn’t advanced. 🥳 He’s going to need to be current on prevention for the rest of his life. Happy Valentines Day!! ♥️🐾💘🐶💘🐾♥️
Meet Mia!! 😍 We rescued this cutie today and treated her to a spa day at Wash Wag.

Mia is 13 years young and rather than euthanasia, as suggested, Mia’s 20 year old human sister reached out and asked if could help. We are thankful that we can. Her immediate medical need is surgery for grade 4 dental disease. So many underestimate the need for regular dental cleanings. Without this vital procedure, dental infections often lead to heart disease, organ failure, and early death. Mia however was spayed and saw her veterinarian regularly. 🎉

We look for adoptive homes with a history of dental care. It’s critical, especially for smaller dogs. Dental cleanings are typically scheduled every 2-3 years, as your veterinarian recommends. We owe the dogs we serve, and our donors who pay for it, the continuation of this important care.

Mia can’t wait to see what her future holds. She’s scheduled for an exam this Thursday. Stay tuned for !!

THANK YOU, Wash Wag! Between snow storms they have been BUSY helping us get these two pups, who were in dire need of grooming, taken care of! 😍

We are so grateful these two are clean, safe and warm in their ART foster homes today!! Neither are available to adopt yet, and sorry but we have a line up of already approved adopters for our third surrendered doodle. This now 8 month old was purchased from an Amish puppy mill and then crated “24/7” and is already in a foster to adopt home. She will be spayed this Tuesday! She’s a good girl who needs some training and now she will get it!! 🥰

Rafael, the senior Maltese mix, will never be a prisoner of his own fur again. He still needs neutered and a dental. We expect many extractions. Stay tuned!! He’s a little gentleman despite the multitude of changes he’s gone through in just a few days. Raf lost it when his completely felted tail needed to be shaved. He’s now free!!

Dogs like these require regularly scheduled professional grooming and it’s terrible when they don’t receive it. We can’t do these types of rescues without professional help. Groomers Katie, Alicia and Sharon are the real heroes and we TREAT THEM WELL! 🙏🏻🙏🏻 They sure deserve it! ❤️ Thank you!

Barry wants you to know that he feels FINE but Auntie Alicia, groomer extraordinaire at Wash Wag, found a lump on his chin that has us concerned. He was seen that day by Endless Trails Animal Clinic - Lisa Mokos and has been on a high dose of antibiotics for two weeks tomorrow. We haven’t noticed any significant change so tomorrow he will go under anesthesia for dental X-rays while we attempt to learn more. Keep him in your thoughts as we navigate forward.

Barry requires a non smoking home with a history of dental cleanings and a relationship with a professional groomer. He deserves the continuation of care our donors have generously provided. He had eight teeth removed during a dental in August so this mass is new. Let’s hope it is only a dental issue. We love this guy and we were thinking he was 100% ready for his . Stay tuned… 🙏🏻

Friends, ART’s sweet Portia landed safely at her last night after a spa day at Wash Wag! This little Morkie will be professionally groomed by Ms. Alicia every eight weeks and she’ll never suffer from a matted coat again!! Thank you so much for all your well wishes for our special needs girl. ❤️➡️🐶
