Incorporating a simple down-stay during play can not only help your dog learn how to regulate their excitement, but can also build the bond between owner & dog?! I’m constantly having to remind people that training is supposed to be FUN 🤩. Instead of using your normal training treat, try swapping it out with something like a tug toy or a ball! You’re dog will thank you for it! 🐾🐶

Little Toby showing off his place and his silly side in a very busy park! This pup is only 5 1/2 months old and already has an AMAZING training foundation in place. Also, his owner has made sure to keep a great balance of play and boundaries! You can see him playing around under his place mat! His mom said he loves hiding underneath things, he sure does!!

Copper being as cool as a cucumber yesterday. Absolutely showed off yesterday as the training his mom and dad have put into him is showing!! We were able to walk by some HUGE triggers without his reactions!

Cooper killed his session at the park yesterday! We are currently working on controlling excitement (which turns into reactivity) around other dogs/ activities. You can see he definitely got the memo as about half way through the lesson he started to display more calm behaviors! Progress is definitely showing!

One of my favorite things to do during my walk & trains is to incorporate a down-stay (especially in shady spots 🌳). This helps with impulse control out and about, making it easier for your pup not to act on impulse! 🐕🐕

Fun Fact: The longer you put off training, the stronger the bad behavior grows. It’s the old saying practice makes perfect. We have to ensure we are teaching our dogs the preferred behaviors so they can make those behaviors perfect rather than the unwanted ones.
