Three dogs have recently retired as blood donors at the Hixson-Lied Small Animal Hospital. Pictured are Violet, a German Shepherd owned by Brian and Rebecca Johnson, who contributed 13 units. Lois, owned by Rachel Meyer, donated 9 units. Not pictured is Bell, owned by Caleb and Katie Brezina, who donated 10 units.

The College of Veterinary Medicine’s Hixson-Lied Small Animal Hospital is excited to welcome two recent additions to the Primary Care unit. Drs. Gretta Albrecht and Ashley McCann are both 2012 DVM graduates of Iowa State and have each practiced more than a decade in Central Iowa. The small animal Primary Care Service provides full-service primary care to dogs and cats in the Ames community. The Primary Care team cares about providing quality, comprehensive wellness, illness, and preventive medicine to our canine and feline patients. Services include physical examinations, vaccinations, parasite prevention, general surgery and dentistry, life-stage and breed specific care, diagnostic testing, and care for chronic conditions.

Four companion animals recently retired as blood donors at the College of Veterinary Medicine's Hixson-Lied Small Animal Hospital including from the left, dogs Diesel (Amber Tinta), Bentley (Kristi and Dylan Schaben) and Charlie (Jake and Jen Stohm), and cat Oakley (Christina, Dan, Sydney and Jordan King). The four donors contributed a total of 90 times and 238 units.

Twice a week, Kiera, a senior German Shepherd has a regular appointment with the Canine Rehabilitation Center in the Hixson-Lied Small Animal Hospital. This has been ongoing for a more than a year but from day one, Kiera’s owner has felt comfortable leaving her treasured friend with the Canine Reb staff. And Kiera is just as enthusiastic.

Several dogs recently retired as blood donors at the Hixson-Lied Small Animal Hospital including Evie, a brindle pit mix, owned by Sara Cornelius, and Lois, a greyhound, owned by Letitia and Hugo Kenemer. Evie made 16 donations while Lois donated 34 times. Not pictured, but also retiring are KC, a pitbull owned by Cathy Titus (15 donations), and Tyne, a Weimaraner owned by Skyler Hedrick (23 donations).

Caley is the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center's latest blood donor retiree. Caley gave 21 donations, helping more than 60 patients from 2018-2022. Caley's owners are Jimita and Dwayne Consier.
