Miss Bella (Shih-Tzu) came in this morning for a well overdue makeover!!
As you can see, Bella had severe pelting around her whole body which left me no choice but to either shave her, or send her home. In this case thankfully Bella’s mom was willing to trust me to give Bella the best experience and makeover possible!
Matted or pelted fur in dogs occurs when the hair becomes tangled and forms dense clumps. This usually happens when loose fur, dirt, and debris get caught in the coat, causing the hair to intertwine. Matted fur can cause discomfort, skin irritation, and even lead to infections if not addressed.
Prevention Tips:
Regular Brushing: Brush your dog's coat regularly, depending on the breed and type of fur. Long-haired breeds may need daily brushing, while short-haired breeds might need less frequent attention.
Proper Grooming: Use the right grooming tools for your dog’s coat type, such as slicker brushes, de-shedding tools, or combs.
Bathing: Regular baths with a dog-specific shampoo can help keep the coat clean and reduce tangling. Make sure to rinse thoroughly and dry the coat completely.
Professional Grooming: Schedule regular grooming sessions with a professional, especially for breeds prone to matting. We recommend dogs come in every 4-8 weeks for grooming!
Preventive Products: Use coat conditioners or detangling sprays as recommended by your vet or groomer to help keep the fur smooth and manageable.
By staying consistent with these practices, you can significantly reduce the risk of your dog's fur becoming matted or pelted.🐾🥰
