Random pieces of dog advice:

1) there’s a big difference between purebred and well-bred. If you’re interested in a particular breed of dog, do your research to get the best dog possible.

2) diet matters. Ignore the bag and again, do your research. More than half of you are feeding your dog an expensive fast food junk diet and don’t even know it.

3) forget your dog’s past. Sob stories get dogs adopted. You need to mentally move past it if you want to get your dog trained.

4) you’re half of the problem and half of the solution. Don’t let a trainer blame just you for your dog’s lack of success in training. A good trainer identifies your issues as a handler, and fixes them, while also training your dog.

5) leadership matters. You can’t love your dog into obedience. The best dogs have solid owners who are both trustworthy and respectable.

6) methods matter. Love, treats, rainbows and butterflies can only take you so far in dog training. Dogs need balance just like us. Corrections matter.

7) the majority of dog owners have terrible relationships with their dogs. They treat them like therapists instead of treating them like dogs who need a leader.

😎 the best way to achieve success in dog training is to be consistent. You can have the worst communication and the worst approach, but if you’re consistent your dog will catch on. Doesn’t mean it’s right, or effective, but your dog will learn it. For better or worse.

9) the majority of internet dog trainers are wrong. Dead wrong. Accept that and stop following their free advice.

10) check your treat and kibble. They’re probably full of sugar and quick-burning starches disguised as something else. And you wonder why your dog is hyper?

11) your “high energy dog” is probably not high energy, just highly bored. Work his mind too!

12) dog trainers are a dime a dozen. The industry is unregulated. Be careful who you hire. That trainer who charges $2k for one lesson with free lifetime texts after that? Scam artist. The trainer who promises you the world in one session? Run. The trainer who just started yesterday and says he can take on your aggression case? Dead wrong. Experience is the best teacher. Everyone wants to be a dog trainer. Few have the training and experience to be any good at it.

13) a breeder who will sell you two puppies at a time? No bueno. A breeder who promises to send paperwork later? Lying. A breeder who says their dogs are purebred, full-blooded? That’s hilarious. Champion lines and a pedigree full of police dogs? Prove it. Most breeders suck.

14) diet affects behavior. Want a better dog? Check what he’s eating.

15) genetics matter. It’s the glass ceiling that can and will determine your dog’s training potential.

16) accidents happen. Get insurance on your dog.

17) cheap isn’t good and good isn’t cheap. Don’t hire the cheapest trainer on the block. Unless they’re brand new and everything else about them screams awesome.

18) trust your gut. If the dog isn’t a good fit for you, find a more fitting home for him. If you’re not sure about a breeder or rescue or trainer, then don’t do it.

19) a trained dog requires equipment. Leave it on until you know for certain you don’t need it anymore. Quit taking it off early “just to see.”

20) if 1-19 make sense to you and you see things that you can improve, welcome to 99% of dog owners. Nobody’s perfect. We’re all always learning. And guess what? Our dogs are our best teachers. Let your dog teach you how to be a better owner for him and the dogs you have after him.

We owe it to them to do the best we can and to never stop learning!❤️

3 year old Pomeranian that is very sweet & will make a great companion. She would be best with someone who is home all or most of the day. Loves to go on walks & does well on leash. She is weary at first until she gets to know you.
