Feeding your pet right before the flight is not the smartest thing you can do before that trip!

The answer to this question is of course ❌ NO! ❌
You shouldn’t feed them right before the flight.

👉 The flight can cause them a very intense stomach discomfort.
To prevent this, we would suggest you feed them at least 2-3 hours before they travel in order to give their food time to settle.

As people around the world start to travel again, dog owners should be aware that many airlines have changed their rules on pet travel during the past year.

Your pet may be able to travel on your flight inside the cabin depending on the airline. In general, if your pet carrier (with your pet inside) can fit under the seat in front of you, your pet can ride in the cabin on airlines that permit it.

Typically, this would be a dog weighing up to about 20 pounds and at least 8-weeks old and is well-behaved (not growling, barking excessively, or making disturbing noises or smells)- airlines still reserve the right to refuse travel to disruptive pets.

Check with your airline to confirm specific requirements around the weight, age and requirements on health documents.

✈️ Typically, airlines limit the number of pet carriers inside the cabin to 4 or 5 maximum per flight and charge a fee between $100 to $200 for pet carriers inside the cabin.

🐶 If Fido is a big dog - weighs more than 20 pounds with the pet carrier - then he is most likely going to travel in the climate-controlled (temperature, pressure and humidity controlled) cargo hold of the airplane.

He may or may not travel on the same flight with you depending on the cargo space availability inside the aircraft or at the animal reception center at the airport.
He may have to travel on his own in the cargo space of a cargo flight.

For travel from the US to European countries like Germany, dogs and cats must be individually identified by an ISO compliant (11784 and 11785) microchip. ISO compliant microchips are 15 digits long. The pet’s microchip ISO compatibility can be confirmed with the microchip manufacturer.

🔹 The pet microchip provides a form of permanent identification. These microchip implants are called radio frequency identification (RFID) tags. They are tiny, about the size of a large grain of rice, and are passive. The microchip implanted in your dog has no battery and no internal power source, so it sits inertly in the dog until it is read by a microchip scanner. For dogs, the standard site for microchip placement is in the subcutaneous tissue along the dorsal midline (the spine) between the dog's shoulder blades. Once your pet is microchipped, you must register your pet along with your name and contact information with the appropriate agency.

🔹 If a non-ISO compatible microchip was previously implanted and can still be read, then the Veterinarian can implant an ISO-compatible microchip in addition to the non-ISO one the pet currently has. The number and the

❗ IMPORTANT ❗: When recording the “Date of implantation and/or reading [dd/mm/yyyy]” of the microchip/transponder on the health certificate, IT MUST BE ON OR BEFORE THE DATE OF THE PRIMARY RABIES VACCINATION.

Is it smart to fly your pet dogs or cats internationally? 🤔

If you are a pet parent and have always wanted to travel with them around the globe, you’ve probably thought about this fact several times. Perhaps your next career move is transatlantic, or you are in military, getting deployed overseas with a short notice and you need to think about this.
