☀️Summer Horse Camp Registration is OPEN! ☀️

We are SO excited for camp this year and know it will be even more fun than last year! The dates for camp are below. Please note all of the camp weeks are designed for beginner riders and we have one week reserved for a 3-day clinic for advanced riders. If you fall into one of the categories for the 3-day clinic, this week would be better for you. 🤩

🦉Camp will be held from 9am-1pm, Monday - Friday.

📣 All weeks of camp with the exception of the Advanced Rider week is $375/camper. A $100 non refundable deposit will be collected at the time of registration. The balance will be due the Monday of the week you drop off your camper.

Horse Show Ventures banquet was a huge success for this group of riders!

Ava Saxton finished 4th in the Senior Walk Trot🦉💜

Tatum Wansley was Champion in the Long Stirrup Eq, 12-14 Eq, and Long Stirrup Hunters with Burlesque 🥇💜

Averie Rykman was 5th with her young guy, Trottin' Down Bourbon Street and was Champion of the 11U Eq 🥇🦉

Sage Cawley was Champion of the Children's Hunter with Now or Never and 3' Medals, and Reserve Champion of the 15-17 Eq 🥇🥈

Helena finished Reserve Champion in the .80's with Megan

Reserve Champion in the low child/adult with Madison Orr 🥈🥈

Megan Hagood finished 4th with Der Dollar in the Pre-Adults and was Reserve Champion of the Pre-Adult Eq 🦉🥈

It was a great banquet for all, and a HUGE congratulations to Megan Owens for being the Horse Show Ventures "Trainer of the Year". We’re so glad she’s part of our Owl Ridge Family 🤩😍🦉🐴 A great way to end the 2022 season of banquets!

📣 ANNOUNCEMENT 📣

Beginning tomorrow, 1/25/2023, the main entrance to the facility is being taken out. You will still be able to get in and out of the facility, but it is strongly encouraged you give yourself a little bit more time to get here. Especially if you are taking a lesson.

Friday, 1/27/23, the new driveway will be poured and the facility will be closed (with the exception of those that need to be here to care for the horses) and will not reopen until Tuesday, 1/31/23 as the concrete will need to set.

If you have a lesson scheduled during this time frame, please reach out to your trainer/riding instructor to have it rescheduled if they have not already reached out to you.

If you are a boarder and have questions, please reach out to Brittany and she will answer your questions.

If for any reason you MUST be here during the time we will be closed because you’ll have a complete melt down if you cant be at this amazing facility and it’ll just totally ruin your whole day, have your trainer/riding instructor or Brittany reach out to Jonathan and he will figure something out.

If this isn’t rock bottom, I honestly don’t know what is. We are in the tail end of treatment. Will went for his final blood work yesterday and has his final chemotherapy treatment on Tuesday. To say I am thrilled to be done with this crap is an understatement. This cisplatin has taken my husband to the lowest of lows and has completely consumed everything we all know and love about him. One more treatment. One.

Will still has two more weeks of proton therapy and while that is taking a toll on his body as well there is light at the end of the tunnel. The most frustrating part about this is the swelling of the flap they put in his mouth. It’s causing his gag reflex to react where he is essentially gagging on his own tongue. So while we have the nausea under control, there’s this that is causing him to throw up and there’s nothing that can be done about it for now. Some have the flap decrease in size two weeks into radiation treatment, others have it decrease 2 weeks after radiation treatment. Will must be the after, I suppose.

In a prior update I had let you all know we were seeking a consultation from MD Anderson and we proceeded all the way to getting a phone call only to find out they could not talk to us because none of their doctors are licensed to practice medicine in the state of GA. 🙄 However, they did say that continuing treatment at Emory is a wonderful option. You take what you can get and we are doing just fine with the treatment we are receiving and to be quite honest, I’m not sure they would have done anything differently.

We have put a pause on the swallow and speech therapy right now but will pick that up again once we’re at least past the chemo treatment. 🤞🏽The hope is to get that going again once the energy levels are back up and he starts to somewhat feel like himself again.

Thank you all for keeping him and us in your prayers. As horrible as it sounds right now for us, we are thankful to have not missed a treatment or have had anything set us back from receiving treatment. Your prayers are working and very much felt between the two of us. 💚💙

☀️SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION IS OPEN ☀️

We are very excited to offer Summer Horse Camp here at Owl Ridge Equestrian Center 🤩🦉🐴

We ask that all participants be 5 years of age and up. All campers can expect to learn the following:

🐴 Education opportunities to learn barn chores and horsemanship responsibilities (learning how to care for a horse)
🐴 Horse themed arts & crafts
🐴 Horsemanship classroom activities (riding technique, safety, reading horse behavior, observe the farrier, horse body part labels, tack components, etc.)
🐴 Grooming & Tacking Up
Group Lesson (under our fully ventilated covered arena)
🐴 Untacking and putting the horse up

The week long camp is $350/camper and the hours are from 9am - 2pm The weeks available are as follows:

June 7th-11th
June 14th-18th
June 21st-25th
July 5th-9th
July 12th-16th - IEA Camp Week (riders that have joined the IEA team)
July 19th-23rd

With all that is going on and to continue with the assistance for Will while he is not teaching, she is so graciously donating all of her earnings on Saturday to Will & Owl Ridge Equestrian! 🥰

Many of you have had the pleasure of receiving instruction from Will and what better way to give back than to learn from the instructor who played a major role in making him who he is today. 😃 Saturday evening there will also be a dinner where Nancy will teach a Theory Session with a Q&A.

Lessons are 45 minutes and start as early as 9am

So tomorrow will be 5 weeks post surgery and while there were some WTF moments, Will has been recovering exceptionally well and is eager to get the next step going. I’m sure you all have seen him ride his horses and there are days he will feel really good, and then there are days where he will rest all day. I personally enjoy the resting days 🥰

Because of you all and your generosity, we were able to reach out to MD Anderson in TX for a 2nd opinion on the treatment for this cancer to determine if they may know of something that works to improve life expectancy beyond 5 years greater than 30%. Were still waiting to hear back but wanted to let all you know since our insurance does not cover MD Anderson, we were able to cover that expense with this. Also, Will’s hospital bill came in from when he spent a week downtown is his private room 😳 and needless to say I am thankful for insurance and you all for being so generous. That has been completely covered. 🥰

Next Monday we begin the journey of chemotherapy and proton therapy (a specifically targeted form of radiation). Will is going to receive chemotherapy with cisplatin and proton therapy on Mondays and then Tuesday - Friday he will receive proton therapy only. This will be what we do for the next 7 weeks. Doctors are confident the treatment will cure Will but are worried of the cancer coming back within 5 years. However, they are confident if they catch it early enough, they can treat it and get rid of it. I would just prefer it not come back at all. 🤷🏽‍♂️

We are absolutley thrilled to share this amazing accomplishment for Optimus with you all!

This will be an outdoor event and A Little Nautti food truck (https://www.alittlenautiorderingsite.com) will be onsite serving up all of the delicousness they have to offer along with beverages for all. Adult beverages will also be available for those who wish to responsibly partake by Owl Ridge.

In addition to this celebration, we are also celebrating everything Owl Ridge has accomplished this year. Even during a pandemic, we were able to persevere and are so thankful for our boarders, customers, and riders that keep the equestrian center going on a daily basis.

This afternoon celebration is going to be a celebration for all GRAND CHAMPIONS!
