Australian Shepherd's - The Cowboy's Dog

The "Aussie" originated in the western Pyrenees and the Bay of Biscay in France and Spain and were descended from another herding dog breed, the Pyrenean Shepherd. The descendants were known for herding flocks of sheep through the terrain. Around the 1800's, the Basque Shepherd's (member of a people inhabiting the western Pyrenees on the Bay of Biscay) set sail to Australia, where they interbreed the Pyrenean Shepherds with the Australian Collie. Soon after, they sailed again to California. The local California Ranchers and Cowboys nicknamed this mix breed the "Australian Shepherd," and the name took. Ranchers and Cattle Raisers now widely use this versatile breed and are great for other suitable occupations!

I cannot brag on these two enough!!!! Dusty our Golden Retriever/Great Pyrenees mix is the wise Great Grandpa to all my dogs and has helped them learn good manners while raising them all to adulthood. He is the Shepard of the flock, while little Scout my chiweenie mix has trained all my Aussies to be gentle with small creatures and to exercise patience 😂

They are trained daily, tested and are friendly, hardworking, most loyal dogs we can ever ask for. The Ghost Eyed Dog

Said by some sources to be the only livestock working breed developed in America, the Australian Shepherd is also a breed that mesmerizes those who gaze upon it with its incredible eyes. Not all Australian Shepherds have blue eyes, they can also be hazel, brown, green, amber, golden, lemon yellow, or even two different colors. Sometimes, the dogs will have marbled eyes, meaning each of their eyes will be a mix of two or more colors. Some Native American tribes called the breed the “ghost eye dog” because of those eyes, and considered the dogs sacred, and to be avoided. They often have two different colored eyes. The Australian Shepherd is one of a few dog breeds that commonly have two different colored eyes, called heterochromia. Aussies might have any combination of brown, blue, hazel, amber , or green eyes. Some Aussies even display more than one color within the same eye.
