Garden shots.

05/13/2023

It was May of ‘74. Mom had tears in her eyes and dad was quite as he handed me a check as their only son was leaving the farm for a different life. I’ve spent the last 50 years living that life and today I’m driving a 1952 John Deere on the farm where I spent untold thousands of hours working on the farm growing up.
So many memories have flooded back today of my years growing up and how things used to be. There are memories of dad and mom that I have not thought about in many years.
My old tractor is a lot like me. It has some issues a little rusty, but it gets the job done. Wolfe said “you can’t go back home”. This is pretty darn close and I will take it.
Enjoy my first ride on my new old JD40.

Thinning out strawberry bed. Nice plants for $1 each. Start your bed or container now for good plants this spring. Eryn ate the crop last year and I'm starting a new raised bed out my backdoor.

Informative article from the American Bamboo Society.

https://bamboo.org/news-events/news/bamboo-invasiveness-and-control-statement

The American Bamboo Society (ABS) is concerned about misinformation regarding the potential invasiveness of bamboo, because if planted and cared for properly bamboo is not invasive. Therefore the ABS has prepared this statement to provide information about bamboo and how to grow and manage.

We'll be getting our first bamboo plants this week for our nursery. We will have the clumping bamboo and not the invasive running bamboo that can take over the yard. Look for more postings. If I can pick up any plants for you, let us know. There are many sizes available. Some reach 5 or 6 feet while others can reach over 60 feet depending on growing conditions. My supplier has Asian Lemon, Fernleaf, Golden Godess, Goldstripe, Silverstripe, Silk Bamboo, Greaceful Bamboo, Dwarf Weaver's, and Kimmei to name a few.
Be on the lookout for more articles. Give us a call or drop a line to answer any questions you may have. Thank you.

This booklet is written in an attempt to filter through much of the available information and make a simple, user-friendly information guide on growing bamboo in Georgia, which has a wide variety of soils and temperate zones.

Greg grew up on his family’s farm in Denmark, GA (near Statesboro). They grew conventional crops and raised livestock. Greg’s passion for plants and animals led to a degree in biology, followed by a degree in medical technology. He now enjoys getting back to his roots by growing plants and tending to a garden again.

He has established this garden for 3-years; starting with Grapes, Blueberries, and Blackberries. This year, he built raised beds filled with composted, organic matter to grow vegetables. He now has added Squash, Zucchini, Cucumbers, Watermelon, Cantaloupe, and two Pomegranate Trees. And his wife, Eryn Eubanks, has become an enthusiastic sidekick in the garden.

Greg & Eryn’s Farm does not use chemical pesticides or herbicides. (Greg does a lot of hoeing and pulling!) We hope to provide high quality, nutritious and delicious fruit and vegetables to our local community here in Augusta, Georgia.
