I was going to demo the new Andis Endurance brushless motor detachable blade clipper with a Black Russian Terrier, but Mom didn’t end up wanting any clipperwork today so we’ll go with a heavy coated poodle instead. Let’s talk about puppies! We know sometimes it can be frustrating for you if your groomer recommends taking it slow on your new puppy’s first trip to the groomer, and may only want to trim around his face, paws, and sanitary area. The reason for this is that puppies are constantly exposed to new situations, and we like to make sure that these exposures are positive and not too overwhelming, in hopes that your dog will not feel anxiety in the grooming salon. This is Jango, he is a 5 month old standard poodle, and I have been his first and only groomer. As you can see, he is relaxed on the table and comfortable with what is happening. We recommend puppies begin seeing the groomer as soon as possible, but not before 8 weeks old and having at least two Parvovirus/Distemper series and a clean bill of health from the veterinarian. Early and gentle exposure makes a huge difference in how they react to grooming throughout their lifetime!
Michonne getting her pretty clean face on! She has lighter and more sensitive skin, so I use the 15 setting on my Andis Pulse Ion 5 in 1 cordless clipper for her face and feet, while with my own standard poodle who is less sensitive I use the 30 setting on her face and 40 on her feet.
