In May 2023 Luna was scheduled to be euthanized. On the last day before euthanasia, Julie saw our pleas on Nextdoor and adopted her. Julie has been the dog owner that is an inspiration to us all: her resident dog wasn't happy with Luna, and Julie sought training, separated the dogs for months, followed the strict guidelines, and now has two dogs that are best friends.
Julie had a streak of unfortunate situations and is now homeless. She refuses to give up on her dogs, so getting in a shelter is not an option. She has got some help from dog advocates but she only has until tomorrow to stay in the cheap hotel she is in.
If we can raise enough money, Julie will be able to rent a place, hopefully with two months paid in advance, and put her life back in order. She has a job but is trying to get a second job to make the ends meet.

This adorable pup, Shrimp, came to the shelter at end of March and was sent to a boarding facility due to overcrowding. Then he came back this week injured, scared and with skin issues. But he is still the same sweet love bug. Come to Austin Animal Center TODAY and foster or adopt him, he needs a break from his ill fate.

This is Stringer Bell, he has mastered the art of puppy eyes. He’s almost available for adoption (pending surgery for his leg) but you can already meet him, just text/call (512) 655-9292. Besides being handsome, he is great with people and dogs, he especially loves little kids, is a dream on leash and loves treats, which means that he can learn fast.

We are devastated to tell you that we are at the critical point that we have tried to avoid for months now. If we are unable to open kennels for incoming medium/large dogs through foster and adoption, we will have to make hard decisions.

This morning we started with 299 medium/large dogs onsite and we just received notice that 12 dogs from a cruelty case are incoming. We have to make space for them.

How you can make a difference:

ADOPT: Adoption fees continue to be waived! We’re open every day from 11 am to 7 pm. bit.ly/AdoptAAC

FOSTER: We urgently need foster homes for medium/large dogs; we are asking for a two-week commitment. Staff is available to process walk-in fosters from 11 am to 6 pm every day. bit.ly/fosteraac

RESCUE: We are offering $150 per dog to rescues who can pull any medium/large dog into their programs over the next two weeks. Rescues can email [email protected] to be onboarded if they’re not already an active partner.

RECLAIM: If you've lost a dog, please check to see if they're at the shelter. bit.ly/aacfound

REUNITE: If you've found a dog, please do everything you can to get them back home. bit.ly/lostfoundaac

Bubbles is now on Petfinder! If you or someone you know are looking for a sweet 5 year old, 65 lbs Pittie mix, please share his Petfinder link. For now he needs to go to a home with no other pets, but this week we will be testing him with other dogs to see if he has potential to live with another dog. We believe that he would do fine with a calm dog if decompression period and slow introduction are observed.

URGENT NEED for foster or adoptive home for Bubbles.

Bubbles was in a home boarding in an apartment but his sitter says that he would pull too strong on the leash and requested us to take him back 😥 We have been scrambling to find him a place, because the majority of us volunteers have dogs at home (mine is reactive to other dogs.)

Bubbles is an amazing, sweet dog and he absolutely LOVES people. He thrives on human interaction and he requests attention frequently.

He is a shadow dog, which probably would change after he has time to fully decompress and be sure that his people are there for him for the rest of his life and won’t leave him behind once again.

The ideal home for him would have low foot traffic, and a fenced yard. He does well in apartments but as I said before he is a strong puller on walks, so that is something to keep in mind. He would prefer to be the only fur baby in the house to receive all the attention that he craves and deserves.

Bubbles is house trained and crate trained, loves car rides, and has never shown any destructive behavior. He is a medium energy dog, energetic in the yard but can chill in a calm indoors environment. He loves walks and could use some leash training brush up.

Despite his life in the shelter, and recently popping from one place to another, he is a happy go lucky dog.

Bubbles is in Austin, TX but we would consider transportation out of the area to a well matched home.
