Fun fact, Remus can spot a photographer from a mile away 😜 he showed off all his angles for Kate Noren while waiting for his buried search at our last trial🥰
We have very few pictures of him searching, so thankful to have one from one out best buried weekends thus far! Thank you, Kate!

What are your goals for 2022?

I’m hoping to get out to the Pom Nationals in March, so Remus can get his FCAT2 and possibly his intermediate rally title. Plus, meet some friends and lots of Poms of course 🥰
Not exactly a goal, but would love to see Ellie remain MCT/growth free this year 😬
And as always, we have a constant goal of improving Rigby’s confidence and fear reactivity. He is loving scentwork , which has been a great replacement for dock diving💙

We stopped by cidery last week, after one of our many fastcat runs. Mom visited there smaller location back when they first opened, so it was nice to see this beatiful, large, dog friendly (🙌) space. The cider is still delicious too! Highly recommend the apple pie cider if you’re nearby😍

Someone loves running in the cold 🤣 day 4 of fastcat, and he’s been hitting a new record every time - today he made it to 19.02mph🎉 and he hit his fcat on top of that🔥 2 more runs, and a temperament test tomorrow. Then, hopefully he’ll be ready to sleep for a week🤣

I don’t talk much on socials about Remus being a service dog. Quite honestly, because it’s a toxic community and I don’t generally have the fortitude to deal with it 🙃 But, I realize that so many people underestimate little dogs; their capabilities, their willingness, their strength. Little dogs are underrepresented in the service dog community - despite the fact that they historically make excellent medical alert dogs. Remus is just that, a medical alert and response dog. He started natural alerts as a puppy- something that took me a while to figure out 😅 I did not get him with the expectation to train him for service, but I could not have been luckier. Imposter syndrome is real, and I still rarely go anywhere where dogs aren’t allowed (which in austin is rare, thankfully). But the fact that people doubt his (and my) legitimacy, solely due to his size or breed, is disheartening.
While it may be tempting to laugh at little dogs & perpetuate stereotypes, I hope you keep in mind that you cannot demand respect for one breed while demonizing another. Unfortunately, people are going to continue faking SDs until laws change, and things become more strict (and therefore also less accessible to those who need them) - but please don’t assume that a small dog cannot work.

Ok. Now we’re ready for the weekend 😅
