Bob will collect memberships at today’s meeting. $20 for family.

New Business:
MN Horse Council Membership: $35/year has been paid. The membership allows the club to receive a 5% discount on MN Horse Expo expenses by being a MN Horse Council Member.

MN Horse Expo Information: Horse Expo 2023

Expenses paid by Club Funds included 5 stalls and 4 tack stalls : $615.12
(Also reimbursed those bringing animals for the required Insurance along with MN Horse Council Membership-$72/each- five families)

Participants paid ½ the cost of their own stall(s) plus shared the cost of 2 additional stalls that others in the club wanted to bring animals: $662.62

Horse Expo 2024 – Dates: April 26 – 28, 2024

Annual Meeting and Silent Auction Saturday January 21st, 2023.
There is still time to reserve a seat at the MN Horse Council Annual Meeting and Silent Auction. Simply send an email by January 18th to [email protected] to be added to the reservation list.

This fun night includes honoring our scholarship winners, grant recipients and crowning the new Horseperson of the Year. We will also have a silent auction to benefit the Minneapolis Mounted Police (a non-profit founded to provide ongoing financial support to the Mounted Police Unit, a division of the Minneapolis Police Department.). Bring an item to donate and leave with something new. Every winning bid is tax deductible!

All of this in the atmosphere of the Marriott West in St. Louis Park. The $45 cost includes an awesome buffet dinner, dessert and all the festivities.

MDMC Fall Ride Held at Hay Creek

The MDMC Fall Ride was held at Hay Creek on Friday thru Sunday, September 23-25th. The weather was pretty good - - even though there were a few minutes of mist and drizzle throughout the day, most of the day on Saturday was pretty nice. Cool enough to enjoy a beautiful fall ride and enjoy the colors of the leaves beginning to turn to shades of various yellow, red and orange.

Those in attendance included Susie Carter (Duluth), Carla Spikberg (Duluth), Tony & Luana Govin (Menomonie, WI), Tom Govin (Menomonie, WI), Wilson and Anna Hochstein (Windom), Corey & Sondra O’Day and their family, Maddie, Hudson and Asher (Ellsworth, WI). Dallas & Betty Smith were hosts of the ride.

Susie Carter, Tony & Luana Govin and Tom Govin all decided to become members of the club.

The group began a mid-morning ride and returned for a short break before going out on a second ride in the afternoon. Two groups decided to ride in different directions to see different areas of the park. A highlight to one groups was riding to the Stone House that was built in the early 1900’s.

Following the afternoon ride, a delicious grilled steak and pork chop dinner was prepared. Others brought a dish to pass. Everyone enjoyed the food and some interesting conversation. As a side note, there was a group of women in the camper near the area where we were having supper, who provided some entertainment dressing up as a horse and a chipmunk??? You might say they were a very friendly bunch of women without much inhibition!

Carla Spikberg, from Duluth, also gave a demonstration with her “Toller” dog. Trained so well you would think they could read each other’s minds! Tricks included, playing dead (along with sound effects! It was the funniest thing to hear the dog yelp as he fell down “dead”), great retrieval and obedience skills. What a treat to watch them work together.

Everyone enjoyed a Breakfast Brunch at the Hay Creek Restaurant before heading home.
It was a very enjoyable weekend. Hopefully, more people will attend next time a club ride is scheduled.
