As a stallion owner, one of our greatest joys is having the opportunity to watch our stallion’s offspring go out into the world and make their mark.

This incredible young gelding has done just that, plus some! He has been shown successfully at the national level by both youth and amateurs, he has helped to introduce numerous people to this incredible breed and has been an outstanding ambassador! We are so excited to watch him continue his epic career with his incredible owner!

When you are choosing a stallion to breed your mare to, one of the most important considerations is looking at what that stallion produces. A stallion can have perfect conformation, a show record a mile long and absolutely take your breath away when you look at him, but if he is unable to share those attributes with his offspring he won’t be able to bring much to the table.

Dice has proven himself time and time again, not only through his own accomplishments, but even more so through the incredible accomplishments of his offspring and we could not be more proud of them!

I don’t know who needs to hear this…

…but STOP using an opening or leading rein, and then being surprised when the horse falls to the inside.

That’s literally its natural mechanical effect.

The opening rein is not a bending rein, it’s a rein the shoulders are MEANT to follow, whether to the inside or outside.

An inside opening rein will cancel any bend it creates as the shoulder comes through, so you’ll have to keep reapplying it.

If you find yourself constantly having to use more and more inside leg, this might be the culprit.

Historically, there are AT LEAST 5 rein aids.
Learn them all so you can use them all. Intentionally.

A bending rein aid like the Indirect Rein of Opposition in Front of the Withers will do its job with you merely positioning from neutral. That’s the beauty of the ‘fixed hand.’

Don’t forget to ‘test your slack’ and momentarily lower your hand or push your hand up the neck (descente de main or uberstreichen) to make sure you’re not holding them in the bend.

*It’s me. I need to hear it. Over and over again. Ad infinitum.

At some point, I would like to touch on the difference between a pulling opening rein, and an opening rein that’s a pre-signal, but that’s a different post for a different time.

As we enter Horse Show Season

1. Horses don’t get broke at home. Be brave and enter!
2. EVERY disappointment at the show is a learning opportunity..... Be humble, be open to change.
3. Everyone gets nervous. Everyone has bad days. Everyone makes mistakes. Literally: EVERYONE!
4. Don’t watch others in the warmup ring and start changing what you have been doing - if you see something cool or you want to step up your game that’s homework for after the show!
5. When we run out of knowledge, we often punish our horses. Seek help instead.
6. Be a competitor! But be a horseman first. There is always someone watching who sees you as a role model.
7. Supporting your fellow competitors and engaging with people will enrich your show life.
8. Know the rules of competition! Make sure your attire and tack is legal. Read the rule book, ask questions and be well prepared.
9. Have FUN, don’t sweat the small stuff!
