Isn't this hydrodip awesome!? I had a customer that wanted one of his son's bucks dipped with an American flag theme. I reached out to Hunter Webb with Webb's Hydrographics to help out with the dipping and he knocked it out of the park!! It's nice to have connections with others that have a different skill set than my own to help satisfy my customers needs!

The bone white skull is from the same customer as well, I only include it because 1. They went home together and 2. Small skulls are extremely fragile and hard to clean correctly. Glad everything stayed in tact and made a beautiful euro mount!

Just wanted to take a break from the complete mounts for a min and show some of the "behind-the-scenes" work. This is a fairly common instance that happens that an inexperienced Taxidermist wouldn't know how to do properly. When you get "what you pay for" with a seasoned taxidermist this is the kind of stuff you should expect to not be a problem for them. So mannikins only come in so many sizes to choose from, all animals are unique and slightly different. Sometimes way different. This deer presented with a neck on the smaller side but a long nose. So I had to match the neck to the size that fit and then I had to alter the face of the mannikin to fit the deer so everything would fit right..... Here's that process of making the mannikin fit the deer. Enjoy!!

Note: Mannikin had a 7" nose, the deer had a measurement of 8".

Completed mount pics to come at a later time 😁

Beautiful Oklahoma bobcat went home a couple weeks ago. I really love mounting cats, they are difficult to make look like a cat but I love the challenge! This bobcat will forever be one of my favorite mounts, it has alot of sentimental value on behalf of the customer and now myself and I'll forever be grateful that I got to mount it for the family. Lots of love to the Cates family ❤️

I love, love, loved putting these 2 together!! Dad and son both harvested good bucks last season and decided they both wanted pack mounts that match. I always love a challenge and these do it. My job everyday is to make animals look alive, in this case I have to make them look tastefully dead. It's harder than it sounds, but I got it done ✅😁

Dad and son's deer went home last week! You might recognize the dad's deer with last week's post with the before and after mount! His son's deer was also mounted at the same time.

We originally had some turn of events on these mounts. Originally the son's deer came in as a euro and they wanted that cape (the son's) to be used on the dad's for the remount. Well..... The one time I've ever done this,,, I skull capped the euro. I made a mistake. It still makes me feel sick that I even allowed that to happen, but alas I am human. I'm so very very fortunate for the customers I have, they handled it like it was no big deal. Mount the son's and remount the dad's regardless. Just like that. Never once did they sound upset at the situation. I will always be thankful for their understanding and I'm so glad it worked out in the end. NOW, we make sure to wrap a bright marker tape on euros antlers so the same mistake is never made again. *Lesson learned*

2 deer went home over the weekend. I snapped a couple pictures of them before they left. Both deer had tine repairs and rebuilds on them. The full sneak was a remount from a different taxidermist that did not adequately mount the deer for the customer. I do not have before pics of it but it satisfied the customer this time! We're getting into the swing of things and getting mounts out the door, stay tuned!

I'm glad to see this one go out the door finally!! As a thanks to the processor that got me 90% of my work when I started I told him I would remount one of his old mounts that he always has on display in his shop. Since it was more of a personal mount vs. a customer mount it kind of got put on the back burner for 2 or 3 seasons. Whoops 😬. BUT.... I finally made it top priority! So grateful to him for helping me then and even now. I consider him a friend, and I'm so glad he trusted me to remount this buck for him.

01/23/2024

I haven't posted in quite awhile. We've been hard at it! Mostly turning and tanning my own hides and a couple other Taxidermist's hides as well lately! The mounts are starting back up here and there and I'll be posting pics of them soon. But for the time being let's talk about hide prep. The pics posted is an example of what a not-so-great tan/fleshing can do to a deer hide. The "before" picture was actually sent to a tannery by another taxidermist. When the hide was received back it was dry, had some acid swell, and was super thick still. Needless to say it was an unworkable hide for mounting. That Taxidermist brought the hide to me to have it thinned down further into a workable/mountable hide. The "after" pic just shows how clean and thin the hide should be before mounting. Take a look at the lower left corner of the picture. This is skin that was fleshed off with my fleshing machine. That's A LOT of skin for a "already fleshed hide". (Further thinning was done even after the "after" pic).

I personally tan all of my customer's hides that are being mounted so that they don't risk being messed up, lost, or not prepared correctly by a tannery. It is quite a bit of work, but well worth it to be assured that the end product will last many many years. Another bonus to in house tanning is the tanneries timeframes are unpredictable taking 3-12 months to return the hides AND then still having to mount them. At least with tanning them here I can control how fast the hides are complete and be able to keep my turnaround time reasonable and within the timeframe given at drop off.

Something different with a slight back story. We owned this buck (goat) for 4 years. We sold him to our friends in braggs. He was there for 3 years and passed a week before he was heading to the sale barn (of course). I always told my friend if he dies on your place I want his head back..... Well, he came back home and will become a euro to hang on my wall for now on. We made it full circle with him.
Pic is a black and white of his current skinned out state, 2nd pic is when we owned him (alive).
