ADOPTED: Congratulations to our 18 animals who found their forever families this week! We're especially excited that two of our bonded pairs of cats were adopted together - Dove/Robin and Onyx/Piper. Fences For Fido will be installing a fence for a dog in Shelton and they need volunteers. If you're able to assist, please visit their website to sign up. The build will take place this Wednesday, September 25 from 10am to 12pm. The details, such as location, will be provided once you sign up to volunteer. You can be Kobe's hero: be part of the team that frees him from that chain. This is a rare weekday build, which sometimes we do just to help a dog as quickly as possible. Kobe is in Shelton, WA, and likes to roam his neighborhood, so he spends his days tethered to this tree. You can go to FencesForFido.org and click "volunteer" to sign up. A fence takes just about two hours and doesn't require any special skills. We provide all the tools. The dogs provide all the joy as they celebrate their freedom.

The need is so great. Since Monday, we have welcomed 20 kittens. Next week, we're expecting at least 4 more litters of kittens. All of these kittens are part of our Last Litter program. We spay the mama cat, and then she goes back home with her family. Her kittens come to us for care and, when ready, adoption. We are working hard to stop the endless cycle of overpopulation one cat at a time. Please partner with us. We have a great need for fosters right now, especially folks who are willing to help socialize kittens, bottle feed our youngest babies and help with kittens who have medical needs.

We had a blast this afternoon at the first cat yoga at Ziggy's Cat Lounge! The practice was gentle and suitable for all. Very relaxing and so much fun! Thanks to Lake, our wonderful instructor, who made the practice both soothing and playful. Word on the street is that we can enjoy cat yoga every 3rd Friday at 1pm. Stay tuned for details...

Many of the kittens who come into our care need help socializing. It's a big scary world out there, and some of them aren't use to being loved by humans. Our fosters do an incredible job helping these little ones to feel safe and comfortable. And over time, the kitties really start to warm up, showing just how playful and loving they are. Margarita and her sisters Paloma and Martini have come so far in their foster home! These girls still need a bit of time to warm up, but they are so sweet once they feel comfortable. Margarita's foster mom say, "Margarita is getting more playful and outgoing by the day. She is purring and really coming out of her shell."

There are MANY benefits of fostering! By fostering an animal, you provide a safe, loving home for a pet in need. HSMC will provide you with supplies and will cover all the medical care the pet requires. And we're here to help if you have questions along the way! DOG FOSTERS NEEDED: We currently have 7 puppies in need of fosters. We have taken in 8 puppies, 2 dogs, 4 cats and 27 kittens this past week alone and our fosters are at max capacity. URGENT NEED FOR DOG FOSTERS
This past week alone, we have taken in 8 puppies, 2 dogs, 4 cats and 27 kittens! Since we do not have a shelter, we rely 100% on fosters, and our current fosters are maxed out. Are you willing to open your home to a pet in need? Fostering is fun and so incredibly rewarding! I mean, who can resist sweet puppy kisses and kitten snuggles? Plus, if you're thinking of adopting, fostering allows you to see how a particular pet fits into your family before you make it official.

We always have a need for fosters, but these are the pets who have an urgent need for someone to provide a temporary home. We currently have 112 cats in our care and could really use some supplies for them! Costco has the 4 pack of Fresh Step litter on sale for $11.99! Other priority items are cat food (wet and dry, adult and kitten), and tools to help care for our youngest, most fragile kittens: a scale to weigh the babies, some incubators to keep them warm (life savers!), Miracle Ni***es with syringes for feedings, Kitten Milk Replacer and milk frothers. It takes a village! Mama Laila and her two babies, Parker and Petey, were found wandering a logging road near Lake Trask. They were out in the rain, shivering and trying to find cover wherever they could. Shelton Animal Control contacted one of our wonderful volunteers Caryn, who then connected with experienced dog trapper D.D. Ponder. Together Caryn and D.D. worked to set up traps at 11 o'clock at night! Thankfully the pups were friendly and caught fairly quickly. But though mom kept a careful watch on the babies, she refused to come in on her own, despite the yummy treats that were offered. She even spit out the chicken that was given. What a diva! A neighbor, Pete, agreed to keep an eye out while Caryn and D.D. went to care for their personal animals. Apparently Laila has a refined palette, because when Pete brought out the ham, Laila headed right for the trap to get her treasures! After 20 hours, with volunteers keeping vigilance all day and night, mom and babies were finally secured! They were exhausted and so ready for a better life! In comes HSMC foster Kris who stepped up to take all three into her care. Now these little ones are fed and dry and able to decompress, getting all the love they deserve. We'll let you know when they're available for adoption. We are a community of compassionate folks doing our best to help the animals who need us. Please partner with us in whatever way you can. Katie is thriving in her new foster home! When she was at our office or Ziggy's Cat Lounge, Katie was overwhelmed and spent almost the entire day hiding. But LOOK AT HER NOW! She's friendly and sociable and so happy! We love seeing this transformation! Thank you to all our fosters who provide a safe, loving home for our animals while they wait to be adopted.
