Along with updating our social media and website, our team has also created a short survey (link above) to hear personal experiences with the York Community Farm coming from York community members. This survey will be used as a tool to help us decide what projects and decisions to conduct going forward.

We are community-driven and want to hear your voice! Wether you have lots of experience gardening at home or have never even heard of a community farm, if you want to get involved this is a great starting point!

Intro time!!
I’m Ellie (she/her) the new manager at York Community Farm. This Spring I started a new position at the Center for Community Learning at WWU that is centered around convening food systems and local farming efforts, and also includes stewarding the York Farm!
I couldn’t be more excited to be working with an awesome team of WWU students this season, learning together and growing vegetables, fruit, flowers and seed crops.
A little about me:
I’m originally from Montana and moved to the PNW ~7 years ago. For the past 5 years I have been co-running City Sprouts Farm in the birchwood neighborhood. My little red herding dog Freya rarely leaves my side. I am a major nerd about winter squash, and I am super passionate about connecting people to each other and the land through the joy of farming!
Come by the York Farm and say hi!

Hey everyone! Just wanted to let you know The York Community Farm is still kicking!
After 10 years of the farm being managed by the loving care of Mary, it’s now being stewarded by the Center for Community Learning at Western. We have an excellent team of students and a farm manager working at the farm and growing vegetables, herbs and fruit to share with our community. More info to come! Stay tuned.

With a greenhouse, we will be able to conduct our pilot aquaponics project, extend our growing season, and expand our employment opportunities for underserved members of Whatcom County. Please visit our campaign here and make a pledge today! The campaign ends May 13th and we won’t be able to accept any pledge unless we meet our goal of $8,000! There's a work party tomorrow at York Farm! Join us Nov. 4 from 9:30 am to noon for hot coffee, gluten-free muffins, and some cold fall gardening! Not much we can do if the farm is covered in snow, so if you wake up to powder, consider this party snow-checked!

Our fourth YCF Internship has commenced and we have three interns working with us from April to July three shifts a week. Our interns come from our community’s homeless, reentry, and veterans’ populations. Our internship offers paid, resume-building work experience on an organic, sustainable, urban farm. Without our interns, YCF would not be what it is today: a vibrant, beautiful, productive farm. Here’s to our interns!

York Community Farm has commenced its fourth growing season and to help get the season underway, 11 Western Washington University students pitched in! From 10 AM to noon on Saturday, April 17th, the students double-dug veggie beds, turned compost, and sheet mulched pathways. Yeah students! We love you! After we toiled for two hours, we took a much-needed lunch break and had vegan chili made with beans harvested from the farm last season- very yummie! No need for the gym; just come to the farm- right students?!!

We'll have another event like this coming up soon so stay tuned!

On June 29th, 2015, we opened the farm to the community for a day of food, music, dancing, and fun! Our musical lineup included The Catkins, The Dixieland Jazz Band, and Bar Tabac. Portico Dance Troupe entertained with belly dancing and Aslan Brewery provided the beer. We extend a huge thank to all out artists, Aslan, and the community for helping us celebrate the farm!
